12 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a beer flute
Bottled 2013

This beer pours amber in color with golden highlights. It is topped with a couple inches of tan head that leaves little lacing.

It smells like apple pie filling, sweet and decadent, but you can still tell it's a beer and not a cider.

It tastes just like it smells. It is loaded with apple flavor, and once again it has the essence of beer rather than cider.

Medium mouthfeel

This is a refreshing beer that goes great with my apple pie after a Fourth of July cookout. I would love to have this again.

I was super excited to try one of the oft heralded New Glarus fruit beers. This beer is the color of apple juice. It smells like... apple juice. And the taste? Sparkling apple juice. This is not necessarily a bad thing. This beer tastes like really good, fresh, well made sparkling apple juice. It is not a complex beer, but is is more satisfying in execution that most fruit beers I have had. Likely would not be my choice again, but this would be an awesome gateway beer for cider lovers.

Bottle received in a recent trade.

This one pours a clear reddish amber, with a small head, and no lacing.

This one smells unmistakeably like fresh juicy apples, it's incredible. It doesn't smell like cider, though- it smells like juicy apple beer.

This is fairly one note, of course. The apple flavor is super strong, and super authentic, but there's not a whole lot else going on. There's some minimal, almost negligible tartness, and some caramel, and a slight bready backbone, but it's 95% apple all the way. This is incredibly delicious, but I wish there a bit more beer character to it.

This is light bodied, with a fairly crisp mouthfeel, and a moderate to high level of carbonation.

This was another great New Glarus beer, but I just wish it had a bit more complexity. Absolutely delicious, though.

12oz bottle split between a pair of Georgetown samplers. 2964 12:28 is the bottle code.

Pours clear amber with a small head. Smell is apples and beer. Mostly apple juice.

Taste is delicious apple juice. But not beer.A little twist of tartness.

Mouthfeel is surprisingly effervescent. Overall, good if you like apple juice, not going to satisfy a beer craving, though.

This one is great. It probably tastes a little too much like alcoholic apple juice and not enough like beer, but I liked it a lot.

My first New Glarus fruit beer--this poured a light amber color with a fairly large head that quickly vanished. There are aromas of apples--somewhat sweet, somewhat dry, but quite pronounced and inviting, although not much else. Aside from some slight malt flavors, the taste consists of a pounding of fresh apples. There's not a ton of complexity, but this is very, very refreshing. Mouthfeel is highly carbonated and just a touch sticky, but it goes down very easily. Overall, this didn't quite live up to my expectations, but if I lived in Wisconsin I'd probably find this one sometimes on warm summer days.

Pours a clear amber with a thin, bubbly off-white head. A non overbearring Apple smell that is inviting. Taste, a very pleasant balance for an apple ale. I have never liked an apple based beer before this. The is a decimate candy apple taste that is nicely balanced by malt. A very explosive tasty apple that is not overbearing. Tonigh is good enough in which I could drink more than one. Overall a great effort by New Glarus that produces the best fruit beers around.

New Glarus Apple Ale has a thin, white head, a semi-clear, amber appearance, no bubbles and almost no lacing left behind. The aroma is of strong, sweet & sour apple aroma, caramel, and candied malt. Taste is of those elements with citrus and cream cheese. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and New Glarus Apple Ale finishes tart and drinkable.

12 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. Acquired the four pack of this stuff from my mom on a recent Wisconsin trip. Excited to finally have it, and I'm expecting greatness based on my experience with New Glarus' other fruit beers.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - It pours a coppery orange body with a finger or so of off-white head, and excellent clarity. Minimal lacing, but it looks very nice.

S - A beautiful, intoxicating aroma. The sweetened malt melds wonderfully with the crisp sweet juicy authentic apple aroma. Smells more like a nice juice blend than it does a beer, almost.

T - The taste is very much cider like, this is the closest I've seen it in a beer before, that is for sure. The crisp, sweet, juicy, apples shine nicely. A slight sour / earthy / wood sort of presence is there, but it is mostly all apple juice.

M - The is smooth, crisp, & clean. Light-bodied, and ridiculously easy-drinking.

Overall, definitely the closest thing that I've come to experiencing a cider in beer form, that's for sure, and it is definitely the best use of apples in a beer that I've had so far, aside from New Glarus' other beer projects that involve apples. Move over Angry Orchard, because this stuff is the real deal.

Pours a very dark golden yellow with a slightly rusty red-amber hue and a very thin layer of off-white foam.

An explosion of freshly picked apples, some acidic tartness, and some earthy funk. Very much like very good hard apple cider.

This beer also explodes with heavy apple flavor, which in this case is a good thing. Slightly sour, earthy, grassy notes are also present, but the apple really stands out the most.

Light-bodied, medium-high prickly carbonation, oh so much sour apple tart goodness.

Overall, a very solid brew, one that really made a good impression on me. Definitely a beer I'll be buying more of in the near future.

Poured into a goblet from a 12 oz bottle.

Color looks just like apple juice, but with a small frothy head with decent retention and even some lacing. Smell is all about the apples. Smells like apple cider. The taste is more apples - not apple juice, definitely more like cider with definite fermentation flavors. Body is medium with plenty of carbonation. Overall, I have a hard time distinguishing this from a cider - maybe a bit of malt flavor in the background and the lacing confirm that it is indeed an ale. Very enjoyable drink.

Very easy drinking fruit beer, which I'm not typically a fan of. Sour apple is certainly forward. Sweet, but not overpowering or puckering sweet.

Poured form a bottle into a pint

A. Pours a golden/amber transparent beer with a 1 finger cream head. Head retention is about a minute and a half. Small ring of lacing around the glass.

S. Apple is the highlight here as expected. More sour apple than sweet. Some malt coming out.

T. Very nice. Some good apple flavor upfront. A nice balance of sweetness and just a little tart. More of an apple cider flavor than fresh apple. Leaves a sweetness on the lips like candy.

M. Light carbonation but otherwise a very smooth drinking ale. Body is a 4 out of 10. Finishes pretty clean. Fits the style very well.

O. A nice take on an apple ale. Very easy to drink. Great on a hot summer day. Not too acidic or sweet that you can only have one. Would have no problem drinking again.

Nice straight forward apple ale. Not too sweet. Not as complex as some of New Glarus' other offerings, but definitely enjoyable.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Slightly hazy deep amber. Medium white head. Medium collar.

Smell - Smells like apple juice, but a little less sweet. A little bit of an earthy aroma.

Taste - Unsweetened apple flavor. Earthy maybe isn't the right descriptor anymore. Slightly acidic. Then the sweet apple juice kicks in. Finishes like apple juice.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Well carbonated.

Overall - It's pretty good, but apple just isn't an interesting enough fruit for me.

Such an amazing apple flavor. It is not artificial at all. Nice and sweet with some mild tartness. New Glarus can do no wrong with fruit beers.

Light copper color, strong fresh apple smell and taste. Would not describe this as a beer but rather a carbonated apple juice. Very refreshing and slightly on the dry side which is nice because it's not overly sweet like apple juice or cider typically is.

perhaps I just wasn't in the mood as I LOVE all NG fruit beers, but this one was just a hopped up apple juice to me.
