poured into a glass new glarus bier stien.

Appearance: black bodied beer with 2 fingers of light brown head. The head has some nice staying power; leaving a nice lace on the glass better than spotty lace, but not thick.

Smell: Big roasty coffee notes. A touch of milk chocolates and nutty malts.

Taste: Just like the nose. Moderately roasty coffee, milk chocolates, and just a hint of nuttiness. A touch of fruitiness as the beer warms up with more roasty coffee notes.

Mouthfeel: low end of medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel, but a touch thin. I do like the drinkability of this coffee stout.

Overall: I have drank a few bottles of this beer yearly and never reviewed it. Honestly, I forgot how enjoyable this New Glarus beer really is every single year!

Pours a almost black with a slight cola brown on the edges.

Smell is coffee, chocolate with a sweet frosting and roasted smell

Taste follows the nose, starting with a sweet Coffee, Chocolate and finishing with bitter roastyness and espresso.

Mouthfeel is rather soft and silky but with a decent amount carbonation

Wow I almost always love every NG beer they put out for us here in WI, but this one is a step above most, If you are a Coffee beer fan either Trade for it or if you are here in WI then just buy it!

12oz bottle poured into pint glass

A- Nearly black with faint ruby highlights. Tan thick head which coats the glass well.

S- Delicious fresh brewed coffee flavors with malty sweetness and notes of vanilla and cocoa

T- Excellent espresso coffee flavors featuring vanilla and a phenomenal smoky finish that’s balanced out with malty sweetness

M- On the lighter side, soft and smooth.

O- One of my absolute favorites by New Glarus. Hits the spot everytime! New Glarus puts out fantastic beer and this take on a coffee stout is phenomena! Simply outstanding!

Deep nearly black tone, ruby outlines when held up to the light.
Head is nice and beautifully creamy. Tan tones, settles down slowly leaving lovely lacing.
Smell exhibits coffee beautifully.Espresso, fresh roasted coffee beans, bitter earthy ground notes. Touch of acidity, vanilla, cocoa comes in adding notes of sweet richness.
Flavor is bitter, evolving in to cocoa notes, espresso, vanilla, cream, but with a really nice bitter smoky finish like a good espresso shot. Touch of milky sweetness that creeps up on the finish really rounds out the bitter/smokey flavors beautifully.
Mouthfeel is lighter, finishing clean, sharp and bright. As the beer warms, the aforementioned milky sweetness gradually adds a roundness and smoothness to the beer, much like adding a touch of milk to a cup of coffee without stirring..every now and then the cream rounds out and also the bitterness cleans things up on subsequent sips.
I have yet to have anything from New Glarus that is anything short of pure, talented excellence. Look forward t making a trip up there soon

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall New Glarus Signature Pilsner Glass.

Appearance: Pours a dark blackish brown with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid three fingers of tan head with decent retention. Leaves a good amount of creamy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A dark roasted and fairly sweet coffee infused aroma. Dark roasted malts with good hints of coffee, chocolate, burnt toast, caramel, toffee, cereal grains, biscuit, milk, and nuts. Some fairly sharp hints of smoke and wood as well. Sweet burnt sugars add some more sweetness with a little vanilla. Subtle hints of grassy hops in the background. A pretty solid sweet stout aroma.

Taste: Like the nose hints, a dark roasty stout that leans towards the sweet side. Sweet dark roasted malts with notes of coffee, chocolate, burnt caramel, toffee, toast, cereal grains, biscuit, lactose milk, and nuts. Mlats are rounded out by a nice taste of smoke and wood. Sweet burnt sugar and a little vanilla. Hop presence is pretty tame with a little earthy grass towards the finish. Definitely on the sweet dark malty side. Pretty solid.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Nicely creamy, slick, and smooth. Not overly syrupy.

Overall: A pretty solid coffee beer. Definitely not thick like an imperial stout. Its more like a sweet/milk stout, but a pretty good one.

Pours a thick, off-tan head that settles away with a bit of lacing. Huge coffee aroma; floral and acidic. Black. Starts tart, acidic, and floral; mainly coffee right up front. Moves into a nice roasted malt middle, just a touch of hops, and the finish moves back into coffee. As it lingers, the roasted malt subsides, and hop bitterness is the only thing left.

I like this one alot because it's a great mix of coffee and stout. The coffee is assertive, but paired masterfully with the roasted malt; the transition between the coffee and the malt is so seamless. Just a great, silken mouthfeel, too.
Honestly, I'll take this over Founder's Breakfast Stout; WAY more balanced.

12oz bottle poured into a Sprecher snifter glass

Appearance- Jet black in color with a finger of kahki heads that dissipates into a small ring that leaves minimal lacing.

Smell- Tons of black coffee with a hint a sweet malt.

Taste- All black coffee. It kind of makes me sad that there is no sweet or bitter sweetness to balance out the black coffee taste.

Mouthfeel- Kind of light, drinks more like a porter with a good amount of carbonation.

Overall- Definitly a 1 dimensional beer that lacks balance and complexity.
