This dark stout is a hearty and satisfying reward for those of us who embrace the frozen tundra. Malted oats give this stout a "sink into it" smoothness that slides you into its depth. Fresh handcrafted Chocolate and Victory malts from Manitowoc, Wisconsin combine to balance this robust ale.
Expect this ale to pour a luxurious head over a rich black ruby body. The powerful malt bouquet will greet you as you tip this silky smoothness from your glass. Our Oatmeal Stout is handcrafted in the time honored traditions. Serve just below room temperature and relax - road construction season will soon return.

Disappointing given how fantastic their other beers are.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours pitch black with a tiny light brown head. Smells of chocolate malt with just a hint of coffee. Tastes of coffee with chocolate, nice combination. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

A - Pours out largely opaque, light tan head, very full and fluffy.
S - Slightly vegetal note, malt and coffee, a bit of chocolate.
T - Nice sweetness in the open, a bit of toasty malt, clean finish.
M - A bit sticky, mild carbonation, and dry finish.
O - Solid, pretty tasty standard issue stout.

It's a pretty light beer but very well balanced. It has a light chocolate and toasted flavor followed by a dry and bitter finish. It's very easy to drink.

It was hard, but I left the bottle on the counter for 15 minutes before drinking. Loved the head on this beer and the lacing as I drank it. Smooth and malty with some chocolate going down the gullet. Nice and dry finish. A smashing beer for the winter in Wisconsin.

I even did the beer geek temperature thing here. Serving temp was 49.7 degrees. Wonderful coffee nose with subtle notes of chocolate. Then I get a wonderful creamy mix of coffee and chocolate. Very easy drinking and delicious

Thin, bitter and the lightest colored "stout" I've ever seen. Oatmeal? Where?
New Glarus Brewing really leans towards garden lagers. I've never had a beer from them that I've really liked which is a shame because I really want to like them. Road Slush Stout was a waste of money.

12oz bottle. Stamp on bottle neck is 'E083 12:46'.
Ruby brown colored body. Three fingers of light tan head upon pouring, which recedes after a number of minutes to a thin cap and ring. Leaves some islands of lacing.
Aroma is oat and slight char. Slight chocolate.
Taste is oat malt, metallic char, butterscotch, milk and dark bitter chocolate. Bitterness persists in the aftertaste.
Thinner mouthfeel. Very dry finish. Metallic tone. Good carbonation.
Very full of flavors but very bitter and dry. High marks for what it is.

Appearance: Pours a clear, dark color with a strong tan head that leaves lacing on the glass. SRM of 22-23. (4.00)
Aroma: Moderate aromas of cocoa, chocolate, cream, with an airy grain and roast quality. Some hints of dark fruit underneath.
Flavor: Strong flavors of cocoa, chocolate, cream, some dark malt, root beer and cola notes. Some lactose and hints of dark fruit, but then dry on the finish.
Feel: Medium-bodied, strong carbonation and finishes clean.
Compared to Toppling Goliath Rover Truck 1/2023: Pours similar color, larger head. Stronger aromas. More root beer, cola, dark fruit. Less cocoa. Stronger carbonation and a larger body and finish. Slightly dryer though from the carbonation.
Compared to Great Lakes Ohio City Oatmeal Stout 1/2023: Pours similar, larger head. Similar aromas. Slightly more root beer, cola, dark fruit. Less cocoa, chocolate, airy roast. Stronger carbonation and dryer.
Overall: A pretty decent oatmeal stout here. Has some cola, root beer, and dark fruit tones within it. Strong carbonation as usual for New Glarus for a dry and crisp finish. It's not bad, but I think more cocoa flavor, cream would help this one be more drinkable. Start to remind me of a Root Beer Slushie. (Rating:

Going by the handwritten notes I took back in 2013:
It was a slightly dry but smooth beer with a burnt coffee grounds or roasted beans flavor.
