Pours very dark brown with very prickly and lively tan carbonation.

Earthy, roasted coffee, chocolate, and a noticeable aroma of sweet oatmeal.

Slightly bitter coffee, roasty, earthy, and a non-overbearing sweetness of chocolate and cereal.

Light-medium bodied, medium-high carbonation, perky bubbles, slightly bitter, subtle sweetness.

Overall, I'm a big fan of this oatmeal stout. I don't generally expect a standard oatmeal stout to be mind blowing as oatmeal in itself is rather bland, but I am a fan of the style and this had a just enough flavor and lively carbonation to keep it interesting. Very good. (613 characters)

I had high expectations for this beer, but it was disappointing. I pours and tastes more like a dark lager or thinner porter. bubbles are large and dissipate quickly. If I made this beer myself I would call it a "miss". (219 characters)

12oz bottle dated 12/29/2014, poured into a snifter 2/2/2015.

A- Medium-dark brown body, cola coloured and somewhat opaque. Pours with a two finger offwhite head, not unlike slightly muddy snow; average retention, a bit of lacing.

S- Clean roasted barley, mild earthy hop aromas, a bit of black coffee and dark chocolate. A bit of caramel. Smells just about right, I think, for an oatmeal stout.

F- Black coffee but without any coffee grounds type flavour, a good bit of bitter dark chocolate, plenty of roast. Small amounts of caramel and brown sugar rounds things out. Mild-moderate earthy bitterness that is quite nice and balances out the roast quite well. A very balanced stout.

M- Thin-medium bodied. Not quite watery as it has a good depth of flavour, but I feel that the body on this beer is a bit lacking. Still, it is full flavoured with a mildly bitter earthy finish.

O- I enjoy this oatmeal stout a lot as a typical weeknight drinker. Plenty of flavour at 6.2% ABV makes for a nice winter warmer when it's cold and snowy out. Very balanced and well-put together, as typical of New Glarus beer. (1,111 characters)

As usual New Glarus makes a solid beer, not amazing but good. Mellow, sort of muted chocolate flavor with all the roasted creaminess of an oatmeal stout. (153 characters)

Another solid brew from New Glarus. Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a snifter. Some good carbonation, but produced a tad more than a wisp of a head. Not super dark. Looks more like a porter than a stout. Dark brown...like a deep dark brown ale. Roasted coffee and a nice sweet note of chocolate. Flavor was very good. Cocoa like, roasted malts, and very smooth. I don't mind making my way through this kind of road slush -indoors! (430 characters)

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall New Glarus Signature Pilsner Glass.

Appearance: Pours a dark blackish brown with a hint of ruby. Moderate amount of bubbles and a solid one finger of beige head which settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: A toasty and roasty malt forward aroma with hints of chocolate, oatmeal, and caramel. Dark roasted barley malt with hints of chocolate, oatmeal, caramel, and toast along with some hints of coffee, nuts, biscuit, cream, and yeast. Sweet hints of brown sugar. Subtle hints of earthy hops. A very solid toasty smell.

Taste: Like it smells, a nicely toasty and roasty dark malt driven taste with good notes of chocolate, oatmeal, and caramel. Upfront roasted malt with notes of dark chocolate, oatmeal, toast, and caramel as well as some coffee, biscuit, nuts, and yeast. Sweet notes of cream, milk, and brown sugar. Backing notes of earthy hops. A very good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Very creamy and smooth with a fairly drying finish.

Overall: A very good version of an Oatmeal Stout. Good dark malt and oat flavors with a nice creamy body. (1,140 characters)

Received as an extra with a trade from LegitCraftBeer so thank you very much for this nice beer.
A very nice looking beer. Pours a very dark brown. Nice 2 inch head that quickly died down leaving behind heavy lacing. Looks like how I want my beer to look.
Smell was nice had a nice roasted scent to it with a hint of chocolate.
Good taste with the chocolate up front and the roasted oatmeal seemed to linger on my tongue for quite sometime.
I liked this beer I had Velvet Merkin last week and I prefer the Road Slush. (526 characters)

This pours a dark brown color with a slight head. The aroma is sweet and malty. The taste is nice and complex with molasses, toasted oats, and hints of coffee. This is a smooth, well-balanced stout that really delivers. The after taste is a little bitter with a lingering oat flavor. (283 characters)

Pours dark brown to black. Smell is toasty and a little creamy. Taste follows and it is really nice. For me, this is a perfect session stout. I could drink 4-5 of these in a sitting. I highly recommend this. New Glarus does it again! (236 characters)

Road Slush Stout
A: Pours a brown/black with little to no head. No lacing.
S: Nuts, oatmeal, chocolate.
T: Lots of carbonation up from goes into a nice chocolaty stout. Milder flavors but a nice body to it.
M: Lots of chocolate up in here.
O: Meh, more of a traditional stout that would be session able but by itself its not all that much of a tasting experience. (366 characters)

A - pours black as night with a small, white head

S - roasted malts, chocolate, grains...full of malt bill as it should be

T - follows the nose. Sweet and chocolaty upfront and moves onto a little bit of grain character. The chocolate notes come back stronger and more chocolaty than they did on the front on the tongue. Finishes a little dry with some of the roasted malts/coffee/dark chocolate character.

M - silky smooth and full. This brewery has some very consistent mouthfeels.

D - overall, this is an easy drinking stout. Nothing that will blow your mind, but it won't let you down either. This was out at the brewery, fortunately my buddy had one in his fridge for me to try. (687 characters)

A - Opaque cola color with a healthy, creamy, smooth, meringue-like, light cafe white color. Great retention leaving a nice lacing.

S - Plenty of nice roasted coffee and milk chocolate. Mocha and malt chocolate aromas along with a touch of nuttiness. Faint sweetness along with the earthiness. Nice aroma.

T - Starts with some milk chocolate and earthy/nutty flavors. Gives way to some roasted coffee and some dark chocolate. Slight creamy and caramel sweetness. Roasted flavor lasts throughout giving way to a slight astringent flavor on the finish. Some bitter roasted flavors on the finish with an underlying sweetness.

M - Medium to light body. Average, maybe slightly less than average, carbonation. Not quite as smooth and creamy as other oatmeal stouts but it does have these characteristics.

D - Nice mix of bitter/roasted flavors and sweetness. Easy to drink sweeter stout. Good balance and the beer just disappeared from the glass.

Notes: Nice oatmeal stout. It lacks a bit of the classical body you expect and the flavor falls a bit short of the aroma, but it's a nice balanced Oatmeal Stout that's easy to drink. Enjoyable but not amazing. (1,156 characters)

A lighter shade of black with ample 1.5" of head on it, beige in color, kinda looser flimsier bubbles than most stouts. Aroma, a little fruity for a stout, this seemed different, but nice. Of course there was adequate roasting, but it came with that minor fruity bitterness.

Taste, solid, good roast, yet allowing the oatmeal to give it a smoothness. Easy to drink, ibu's were pretty high given its an oatmeal stout. Dry chocolate malt presence. Even though there was that fruity undercurrent in the nose, its also largely muted in the taste, but still existant enough to be tasted.

What appeared to be a simple run of the mill stout actually has some neat nuances running through it, I recommend you take a little extra time when drinking this one, letting it warm a little, it will continue to grow on you. Another solid New Glarus effort. (844 characters)

12 oz. bottle served in a Midwest Brewers fest pint glass.

Huge frothy head is one of the biggest I've seen on a stout. Dark brown color. Settles to a surface covering with solid sheets of thick foam coating the sides of the glass.

Smell is huge roasted malt and oatmeal.

Taste a slightly sweet roast, coffee and dark cocoa. Not a dark roasted bitter stout. More like a dark brown ale.

Mouthfeel is medium with above average carbonation for this style.

Overall a different take on a stout and very well crafted. The appearance stood out with the head and lacing. I really enjoy all the beers from New Glarus. (613 characters)

Pours black with a minimal white head leaving a wisp.

Smells of chocolate, roasted coffee and oats.

Similar flavors as the aroma. Chocolate and roasted coffee up front. There's a definite grainy characteristic throughout along with the oats and a good amount of hop bitterness. Overall very pleasant.

Medium bodied with medium-high carbonation.

Very pleasantly surprised by this one and I usually think oatmeal stouts are kind of boring, but New Glarus once again proves they can make me like something I didn't think I would. (531 characters)

Pours very dark brown, opaque except at the edges. One finger of medium-tan head, gone in a flash, with some touches of lacing.

Smell is good. A pleasant combination of slightly smoky dark roasted malts with the full fluffy sweetness of oats. A bit of dark fruit pushes its way through. Pretty dead on for an oatmeal stout, though it's a bit faint and lacking depth.

Taste is also what I'd expect, though more bitter and less complex than the nose. A bit of milk chocolate, some char, in fact a bit more char than I'd like there to be. The oats come through less here, and I have a hard time pulling out any other flavors.

Nice chewy slick mouthfeel. Finishes quite quickly, just disappearing into the reaches of... my belly.

I like this beer. It gives me everything it should - plenty of dark roast and most of the flavors that come with it, and enough oat presence to satisfy my needs. Doesn't blow me away, but it's a very solid oatmeal stout. (950 characters)

pours from bottle into a pint glass. Pours a dark brown color with a small head.

Well balanced aromas of coffee, roasted malts, with a slight bit of caramel and toffee. Lacking a some depth though.

Medium/full bodied with a smooth feel, but lacking a bit in the middle. Very good flavors of caramel, roasted coffee, and malts.

A quality stout. I didn't get that many oatmeal flavors, but this was very good nonetheless. (422 characters)

Part of a resent trade with my buddy Jerod out in Iowa. Thanks again! This is easily my new favorite oatmeal stout.

Pours black as night with a fluffy khaki colored head that dissipates pretty slowly and laces well throughout. Smell is of sweet oats, toasty malts and some cacao. The taste is fantastic.. Fluctuates gracefully from sip to sip.. Toffee, Milk chocolate, espresso, sugary oat flakes, milk, and Caramel. Toffee notes lingering sip to sip. This was way to smooth and delicious to sip on with a bag of chocolate covered pretzels. (542 characters)

Black in color with an attractive two fingers of tan head that had good retention. The head eventually settles to a thick cap. Heavy lacing is left down the glass.

Nice oatmeal stout aroma with notes of whole grain bread, chocolate, and oats.

Does not pack the most flavor of beers of the style especially modern, American interprations. Classic flavor of dark malt of very faint roast, chocolate, and oats. Faint dark fruit and earthiness as well.

The body was bit of a letdown. Felt a little thin which is surprising considering the ABV. The texture was not as smooth, and soft as I expect in an oatmeal stout.

A good all around stout. More on the traditional side of the spectrum but about what I expected from a New Glarus seasonal. (740 characters)

No freshness dating but the bottle is stamped with a 3401
12:09

A= Pours a deep black color with a two finger head on it that is a slightly off white color as well as some solid retention and lacing.

S= The smell is oaty and chocolaty. I don't really pick up much of a roast to this one for some reason. Really a nice sweet smell. The grains come through giving it a nice mash smell.

T= The taste is a nice sweet stout flavor again. Tons of nice chocolaty malt flavor and a nice sort of grain bed taste with not much of a roasty taste. No real hop profile. This is a nice full flavored stout that isn't of the imperial variety.

M= Nice smooth mouth. A little light maybe.

O= This is a solid stout with a nice flavor without being over bearing. It's sort of nice to have a stout that isn't imperial and gonna knock you on your ass. Good flavor for less buzz. Check it out. (876 characters)

New at this but I don't think words will be too difficult to come by after a couple of these.

A - Almost totally black. A mohogany color lines the bottom of the glass where just a tiny bit of light is able to peek through.

S - Roasted malts, dark chocolate, and coffee in the nose of this one.

T - Seems to change with every sip. Strong notes of espresso, dark chocolate, and roasted malts as evidenced in the smell are backed up by undertones of toffee and caramel.

M - A little thin for a stout for me. Medium carbonation.

O - A very sessionable stout that should probably be stocked up on as it is seasonal. (616 characters)
