Pours bright gold with a weak white head that fades quickly. Tons of bubbles flowing. Smells of very pale malt. Very smooth malt with just a bit of German hop taste, ends very bitter on the finish. The mouthfeel is smooth with a good amount of carbonation. Very drinkable and very enjoyable.

Ok, I admit…my first instinct is to trash this beer because it kinda tastes like old spotted cow on draft from a dirty line mixed with miller highlife. That would be wrong though, because this beer pretty well represents the style.

Its appearance is its best trait. The brew is bright light gold with a magnificent, thick creamy head that slowly dissipates to leave thin bubbles and a slight lacing around the glass.

The smell is yeasty and German, slightly dusty with a hint of lemon.

The mouthfeel is dry and smooth.

Very drinkable.

Not my style at all but a great job of it. Truly a beer for light lager drinking yokels.

Update: 2-6-06, After drinking this beer for a year I have come to adore it. Yokel is nearly perfectly crafted and its drinkability can't be beaten. I'm upping my ratings a bit today.

A crisp and refreshing beer with a yeast driven flavors and moderate, spicy hops character.

Pours a hazy gold body with a white head the quickly falls. Aroma is of citrus and grape skin. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a low to medium carbonation level that makes this beer smooth. Flavor is a light malt sweetness with a very mild bitterness. Excellent for a session beer.

Pours from the 12oz bottle into my glass a hazy yellow orange with a quarter inch bubbly white head. Lots of small particulate yeast in suspension in the brew. Aromas begin with grainy malts that carry a somewhat fruity character. Grassy, herbal hops are there with a little bit of spiciness as well. Quite crisp and inviting.

First sip brings a somewhat creamy, fruity grain maltiness with some bready yeast hints and a touch of spiciness. Herbal, grassy hops kick in midway through each sip and provide a nice bitterness on the way down. Everything works together nicely here, crisp and tasty.

Mouthfeel is smooth with plenty of carbonation. This is a sturdy, refreshing lager that doesn't wind up lacking in body. A definite easy drinker that would make a good session brew. I could see myself grabbing this again when I'm looking for something lighter and easy to drink.

Pours a slightly cloudy golden color with a bit of an orange hue. Had a nice white head that dissipated quickly, leaving small amounts of lacing and a nice ring around the glass. Smell is pretty nice with some lemon smells, biscuit, a bit of corn, and some floralness. Not great, but pretty interesting and enjoyable. Taste is slightly bready with a definate lemon zest in there as well, hops are present but faintly. There is even a bit of corn flavor in there that I think pairs well with this. Not a whole lot of carbonation, and a light to medium body on this one. I like that it is not overcarbonated like most beers of this style. Drinkability is definately deserving of a perfect. This beer is great for almost any occasion and can be enjoyed by virtually anyone.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall New Glarus Signature Pilsner Glass.

Appearance: Pours a bright golden orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Big three finger white head which slowly fades into a thin patchy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing.

Smell: A crisp, bready, and earthy malt forward aroma with hints of biscuit and noble hops. Sweet and bready malt presence with hints of biscuit, grains, yeast, straw, and cracker. Earthy scent of Euro hops with hints of grass, spice, and fruity hints of lemon and slight apple. A pretty solid traditional lager aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma, a bready, sweet, and earthy malt driven taste with notes of biscuit and Euro Noble hops. Upfront taste of bready and sweet malt with notes of biscuit, yeast, grains, straw, and crackers. Solid presence of earthy and spicy Noble hops with some notes of grass. Subtle fruit notes of lemon zest and apple. A pretty nice light taste.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, clean, and very smooth.

Overall: A pretty solid take on a traditional European light lager. Nice bready malt taste with some good subtle hop notes.

I got this beer as a generous extra from thomashardy in what I feel was a great trade. Thank you for your generocity.

This beer pours a clear straw yellow color, with a thick fluffy white head. The head fades very slowly, leaving many thick laces.

This beer has a grainy aroma. It smells slightly grassy. Mild spicy hop aroma is present. This beer smells slightly like Miller.

This beer tastes grainy. It has a mild bready flavor. It has a slight spicy hop flavor to it. It tastes rather booring.

This beer is very crisp. It is light and thin. It goes down smooth. leaving a grainy aftertaste. The carbonation level is normal for the style.

I think this beer would make a good session beer. It is not too high in alcohol. Also, the flavor is very mild and non aggressive. If you can handle the taste, this beer is for you.

(Served in a dimple mug)
A- The slightly cloudy orange body has a sea of microbubbles supporting a creamy soapy off-white head that sticks to the glass with each sip.
S- The very clean aroma has a note of cream and wet stones no matter how much I sniff.
T- The soft tartness gives way to a soft slate note and a hint of orange at the finish.
M- This beer has a medium mouthfeel with no alcohol noted. D- This beer has a light tartness and orange flavor that is a bit unique together but not bad. Otherwise it is a very clean flavor and a bit dull to drink more than one at a time.

Thanks to thefatkid13 for this one in a trade. The beer poured a hazy orange color into a tulip glass, with a slight white head. The nose of this beer was not very strong with any one character but has some hints of banana, maybe some spices. I didn't get much. The taste was also not that complex. There is a good balance between malts and hops that makes for a pretty drinkable beer, although not overly complex. Worth a try.

12 oz bottle just received tonight in a trade with nflmvp....awesome...thanks for the opportunity.
Pours a surprisingly clear moderate yellow with a decent white lager head that melts to a pretty ring of lacing. Tiny pieces of yeast can be seen floating throughout.
Aromas are lager yeast, a very smooth almost fruity mixture of malt and hops.
Taste is yummy. Bready sweet light malts come off creamy in the beginning then melts to a very slight hop astringency as you swallow.
Aftertaste is clean and refreshing despite the slight sweetness which lingers.
This is the first of this style I have ever had and I have to say that it is one I will be investigating. This is delicious. Yokel would be a wonderful way to fill out an entire warm saturday afternoon into evening.
