if i am going to drink yellow lager, this is one of the best ones going. thanks to my buddy for bringing it back for me. i love the idea of leaving the yeast in it. so many of these are good, but just made too sterile, and i like the rustic nature of it, it doesnt slow drinkability in the least. its not cloudy, only slightly hazy, and holding a nice tall white head. smells like lager yeast, mild though, crackery rather than bready, but not thin, dry and rather hoppy as they go as well. the flavor is led by a simple grain bill with a touch of honey sweetness, followed by a nice combination of yeast and hops. the yeast is old worldy, sort of german in nature, but really pretty delicate, and the hops are dried grassy, without much bitterness. its a display of flavorful balance, and with the lively carbonation, its a beer i could drink indefinitely. perhaps not the most ambitious recipe out of new glarus, but the execution is flawless. one of my favorite lagers on the market right now, i wish this were available here in colorado...
