hay color with a small cap of white that seriously stayed for about a few seconds with no visible carbonation. aroma is earthy, musky grain, touches of light grass, but really rather bland and without much in the way of any depth, light feel, watery at times without any really big flavors or huge noticeable chnage from the smell. clean finish

Full notes on phone when out of service area/Wifi. Reviewed at Johnson's Campground in St Mary, MT. Big review dump from last week camping.

A- Clear pale golden pour from a 12oz bottle to a goblet with a one finger white head that has fairly good retention. Texture is frothy and fizzy and a small ring deposits seldom spots of lace.

S- Light fruit esters like apple and some citrus too. Noble hops in the backdrop as well as light cracked grains and bread. A bit of a strain to get much.

T- Light fruits and lager yeast are the main theme of this one with apple, pear, citrus and bread coming in as well as some spice. Spicy herbal noble hops in the finish with a light sweetness

MF- Creamy and puffy texture that adds some substance to a light overall body. Fairly foamy with agitation. Carbonation on the high side.

Easy drinking lager that remains flavorful and clean, without the twang of a macro. Light fruits balanced by some noble hop hints.

12 oz bottle poured into a New Glarus Pilsner Glass.
No date or info.

A - Despite being a beer "with yeast", Yokel is quite clear, showing off it's effervescence through the golden straw beer, feeding the well-retained white head that leaves rings of lace on the glass.

S - Dense rising bread dough makes for a malty (and yeasty) aroma with soft traces of mineral water and sweet honey overlapping the delicately floral hoppiness on the finish.

T - Soft breadiness recalls the warm and plush center of a freshly baked and sliced loaf that's drizzled with thin lines of honey. The drinkable maltiness is wonderfully balanced out by a touch of spicy and floral German hops on the back end.

M - Medium-bodied, this easy-drinking lager is a smooth beer that borders on creamy in texture despite it's sparkling carbonation. Perfection going down!

O - New Glarus takes the classic characteristics of a German lager with Bavarian hops and Wisconsin malts to make Yokel, an unassuming, unfiltered lager that's flavorful but easy drinking. So, you want classic Wisconsin? As they say, "Buy Local, Drink Yokel".

Hey it's finally back, and this time I have gotten around to trying it. Now it will likely become one of the staple warm weather brews in my house. I have been waiting for years for Cracked Wheat to return. While I would still be excited to see it, if only one could be brewed , I might actually go with Yokel.

A thick, creamy white head atop a golden body. Leaves ample lace depending on the glass. Beautiful - can't justify taking away any points. The look forecasts a velvety texture, and the entry is exactly that. Sniffing it up while taking those first sips seems to reveal noble hops and a good deal of bready malt. Given the incredibly luxurious body for a 4.2% (was on my second glass before looking that up--could it really still be 4.2%??), i guess some crystal malt is in the house.

The flavor is rich with a sourdough twang and nobles on the backend. The bottle says something about this being an unfiltered lager with the yeast in the bottle. Kinda wild.

Before running across Yokel, I had settled for SA light alternating with hefeweizens and helles lagers as my go-to summer selections. Given the shortcomings of SA in the mouthfeel department, Yokel has probably just taken its place almost entirely in low abv German lager slot, rather than just being added to the regular rotation. Particularly assuming this really is 4.2%, Yokel is one damned impressive beer!

(Wow, it must have been a while since I reviewed a beer--when did this quarter-point system start? Cool.)
