Appearance -- The appearance alone does not imply a stout. Looks like a very dark red ale. If you hold the glass of beer to the light you can see to the other side. Minimal, slightly dirty white head that dies down quickly. Hardly any lacing.
Smell -- Definitely tart cherries. The overwhelming scent is the NG Wisconsin Belgian Red. Faint whiffs of sweet oaky vanilla. At first sniff, the beer smells kind of musty. Very interesting. With exception of the Belgian Red, this beer is like nothing I've experienced before.
Taste -- Very fruity. Is this supposed to taste a little like a stout? It doesn't. It's interesting nonetheless. Very tart cherries. Very tart . . . but not unpleasant.
Mouthfeel -- Mild effervescence felt on the tongue. A lighter feel. Creamy finish.
Drinkability -- This beer is very drinkable. I bought two 4-packs and don't anticipate I will have any trouble finishing them. This beer wasn't quite what I was expecting (hoping for some of the usual malty stout flavors), but I liked it anyway. Recommended if you enjoy fruit beers.
