This bottle was sent to me by a wonderful Wisconsinite...she's a 6' 3" redhead who rides a motorcycle and has exquisite taste in beer...so why do I live in Alabama? :)
It hits the glass a nice cola colour, with a one-finger tan head that disapates somewhat quickly. Held tot he light, it has a nice ruby colour.
The smell is dark malt, a little yeast, and some sour cherry. Nothing much spicy here- but I wouldn't expect it.
The first thing I think of on first taste is my dear frind Garron's fudge. (She's kind of my second mom, and makes some smashing fudge with sour cherries in.) There's some bittersweet chocolate here, but it's dominated by sour cherries and just a hint of coconut milk. A maltiness creeps in, then just a tiny bit of hops, then it's back to the cherries for the finish. Rather rich, but very pleasing!
Mouthfeel is hearty, yet somewhat thinner than exepcted. Carbonation is just a touch higher than I would like.
Very drinkable to me. Someone commented to me that it would be tough to get through one of these in one sitting, but I rather disagree.
