Appearance: Purple Black beer with reddish tones when held up to the light. Dark communion wine colored. Off-white, slightly pinkish head went away farily quickly.
Aroma: Oaky. Vanilla, plum fruit and twinges of sourness all burst into the nose fairly quickly.
Taste: Toasted oakyness seem to have met sour cherries inside this glass. I don't taste too much "stout" here, because there seems to be no noticable roastyness. The mouthfeel is slightly slick but full. The finish leaves sweet and sour fruit (cherry and plums) on the tongue. The sourness and cherry sweetness are nicely balanced here.
Notes: This one is different. I don't know if I would necessarily call it a stout, but it's definitely worth trying. I love sour beers, and this one seems to have sourness that compliments the sweet flavors from the fruit. I think I would have enjoyed this one a bit more if the oak flavor and aroma were diminished a bit. I'll try to age a few bottles to see if that helps.
Thanks to brewcrew76 for this bottle!
