Thanks to thebigredone for this one. 12oz bottle poured into Lawson's tulip, with a few ounces shared with my 84-year old grandmother.
A- Pours a slightly dark reddish black that is mostly opaque but slightly translucent especially around the edges. Has about a finger of brownish reddish head that has decent retention and leaves some spotty lacing. Decent carbonation, a little bit more then your average stout.
S- Lots of black cherries immediately hit your nose balanced with chocolate, some malts, and a hint of oak. Very aromatic and sweet smelling, not an artificial cherry smell.
T- Sweet black cherries mixed with chocolate and a light hint of oak. Finishes fairly sweet with a lingering sweet cherry aftertaste. Fairly well balanced, the chocolate could have came out a little bit more.
M- Definitely fairly thin for a stout, goes down very easily and fairly smooth.
O- I definitely enjoyed this beer. Cherry is definitely a flavor that I think goes very well with stouts. I wish more breweries would incorporate them when making some of their darker beers. This beer definitely had a very strong cherry presence that made the beer very sweet. My only problems with this beer were that it was a little bit too thin and the cherries dominated a little bit too much without letting the other stout qualities come out as much although they were definitely present. I would drink this again and would definitely recommend it if you like sweet cherries. My grandmother thought it was one of the best beers she's had.
