12oz bottle served into a Weizen glass.

A - Careful the head develops quickly on this one. But a nice white firm head it is. Coincidentally enough it pours a copper hazy hue. Eventually the head dissolves but retains a moderatly good size and does not stick to the glass to much

A - This beer has very strong aromas. Starting with cloves, a mixture of bold hops and malts. A nice citrus wheat followed by mild yeast and a metallic finish.

T- Same as the scents. Hops and malts are bold but mixed splendidly. The clove and wheat with the metallic finish are also very prevelant. Yeast is present more towards the end.

M - Nice and smooth with a nice fitting high level carbonation. This one leaves a mark in your mouth.

D - Defiantly a great beer. Good for sipping not really a session beer at all.

Appearance: Perfect. Brilliant pumpkin orange body. Voluminous white head. Limitless retention. Carbonation streams are magnificent. Great lacing.

Aroma: chocolate malt, fantastic Bavarian fruity yeasts, banana, clove. Some Belgian Pale Ale like fruity/floral aromas.

Taste: Banana liquor, spice – mostly clove and perhaps some pepper. Alcohol is present. Hints of chocolate and a pinch of lemon.

Mouthfeel: Sweet fruity front with a nice back of the palate slight bitterness in the finish. Carbonation plays a symphony on the tongue and throat. Slick yet biting.

Drinkability: Outstanding. Light, sessionable as they come.

This doesn’t make up for the loss of Staghorn, Snowshoe, and Black Wheat but it comes close.

Pours into my glass a hazy golden copper with a healthy inch of bubbly white head on top. Lots of active carbonation. Aromas begin with big banana, clove and bubblegum. Caramelized malts with a spike of yeasty spiciness. Citrus rind and a subtle kiss of hops.

First sip brings a caramelly, grainy maltiness that is lightly toasted. It quickly gives way to a rush of banana, clove and a bit of a bubblegum afterthought. A light fruity quality with citrus zest and toffee flows into a earthy, yeasty spiciness. The brew finishes crisp with a touch of herbal hops. Tasty stuff.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a slight grainy aspect. A burst of carbonation with each sip gets to be a little too much and I wouldn't mind it keyed down a bit. Otherwise, this is a tasty, refreshing and easy drinking brew. I must say that New Glarus can do no wrong with wheat beers as every one I've tried has been incredibly tasty, this being no exception. Keep 'em coming!!

Hazy peach skin color. Nearly white head that was persistant and left a spotty lace behind.

Sweet aroma. Yeasty with lots of wheat and slight banana aromas with clove spices. Has a bit of a pear fruitiness as well. I really like this, its a bit more complex than the typical hefeweizen.

Flavor is yeast and wheat again, but this time with more "dark" wheat flavors coming through. Then follows with a little biscuit malts. Corriander spices and less banana than the aroma. Finally a slight musty hoppiness comes through.

The flavor lingers and coats the mouth. Medium bodied. Low carbonation makes this seem a bit flat compared to most other wheat beers. Lacks that sharpness to accentuate the spices.

Good drinkability. Nice aroma and flavor. Easy to put down. I'm not a huge wheat beer fan but this one is nice and one that I might occassionally pick up especially as a once a year offering.

Pours a little lighter than I thought it would - more of a peach-amber color. All kinds of esters in the aroma - banana, clove, faint whiffs of alcohol, almost a Mary Jane peanut butter candy sort of aroma. Very complex.

Starts with banana off the rip, then the cloves, wheatiness, a little vanilla, and yeah, more of that Mary Jane flavor, along with a more pronounced hoppiness and bitterness than I've had from European dunkelweisses. A bit of spiciness in here - good stuff. A slight green-apple tartness emerges in the finish, balancing out the slightly caramelly sweetness nicely. Very tasty brew - appropriate mouthfeel and very, very drinkable. This would be great on a hot evening - still damned tasty on a winter's night!

Pours a dark orange color with a white head that does retain, but not as well as other wheat beers. Aroma of clove, spice, orange peel, and cardamom seed. Taste begins almost spicy and cola-like, followed up by wood-y clove flavors. Highly carbonated with a medium body. Drinkability is OK, perhaps this one is just past its prime, I'll try it again next time around.

(Served in a weizen glass)

A- This beer has a murky golden body that glows in the light with a thick creamy light tan head that pops up over the glass during the pour. There is a strong boiling carbonation that can be seen as the bubbles slide up the side of the glass. The head fades but slides up and down the glass with each sip.

S- This beer has a soft smell of bubblegum which becomes stronger and stronger as it warms. There are nice notes of yeast and Italian bread crust with some soft caramel malt sweetness in there aswell. A hint of dry pale malt comes through but is covered up pretty quickly by bubblegum.

T- The smooth slightly sweet taste of banana and caramel have a nice flavor with a hint of bubblegum. Just like the smell the bubblegum comes to dominate when it warms. There is a nice dry biscuit or Munich toasted malt which gives good depth and a hint of cream and a slightly more toasted malt. The finish has a soft hint of green flavor from the hops but it is very light. As it warms there is also a taste of buttered popcorn in the background which adds a bit more depth.

M- This beer has a big fizz finish to a medium-full body. There is a dry finish that softens the flavor along with the fizz.

D- This beer is very drinkable and has a nice bit of complexity which makes it unique for this style. The depth of flavor and smell was covered up by the bubblegum and that was soon all I could focus on. The first few sips were a 4.5 but the bubblegum flavor was really too much.

Poured straight up and produced a tremendous head causing some concern. Lot of tiny bubbles coming up indicating I had probably poured too vigorously. Hazy copper color with foam and lace abundantly sticking to side of glass.

Slightly yeasty with hint of clove. Did not pick up a lot of malt or hops but all together was very pleasant.

Fuller tasting wheat bear with cloves coming through as expected. Very much in the style of Bavarian wheat with spicy taste complimenting the acidity.

Clean and pleasant with flavors dancing around in the mouth. Lasted for a bit and then definitely invited another sip, then another, and so on.

A well made beer of this style and probably tough to improve on but then I've been told there is always room for improvement. The only reason for no 5's but I probably should have.

Color is lighter than many a German dunkel weizen I've seen, being a coppery tan with plenty of haze. Even without agitation of the yeast it was hazy, and with the yeast poured in it becomes a cloudy miasma that is absolutely entrancing. All this underneath a huge bumpy head that looks like snow drifts.

Banana bread and yeasty funk hit the nose in a big way, with an interesting spice layer coming in (nutmeg, clove, allspice).

Flavor is not far off from the aromas. Everything is well-balanced, none of the flavors spiking out too much. A gentle spiciness carries everything else, even into the finish where I'm reminded of those dessert-y spices again. Some fluffy, almost nutty wheat comes through too, but it's all about balance with this one. Perhaps a tad too much carbonation for the style, but otherwise no real complaints.

Very nice. Not a mindblower, but a very solid U.S. wheat beer, obviously made with some love and not just tossed off like some other US microbreweries are doing with the weizen style. What else would you expect from New Glarus?

Chocolate amber colour with some white head. Some wheat aroma. While drinkable with wheat bannana creaminess, essentially harsh lemon and orange peel and aggressive carbonation leads to drying finish. Some spices, clove, and quaffable.Thanks jpm30 for indulging me.

There's a subtle smokiness to the almost bock-like maltiness of New Glarus' Copper Kettle that distinuishes it from other dunkel weizens. It's actually lighter in color than most dunkels as well, and in fact, quite a few examples of the standard weizen are just as dark or darker; but the maltiness is still there. It starts in the nose, rich and full, loaded with notes of bread and wheat and caramel, and carries straight through into the finish. Now, it may be due to a smoky phenolic from the yeast, or it may be from an addition of smoked malt, but there's certainly a touch of it in play amidst the clove and spice and green banana of the yeast. The dextrinous medium body and (restrained for a weizen) median carbonation add to its maltiness; as does its less than solid bitterness... leaving it a touch sweet. The balance between malt and yeast character is perfect though, with just enough fruitiness and spicy-clovey phenolic making its way through the caramel and dough to off-set it and clearly display it as a "weizen". It looses a bit of drinkability due to its sweetness, but overall it's very nicely done! Rich and satisfying!

12oz single, Rileys, a little late to the party on this release but i just have so much beer in my stock right now

appearance: i'll second MABZ...i was pretty surprised at the force which the cap came flying off of this one...pours into an imperial pint glass with an explosion of head which is rather unusual for new glarus. My first reaction was that I got a bunk bottle but all indications are that that was not the case...body is a hazy copper-orange, huge snowy fluffy white cap with great retention and lacing...very nice

smell: for some reason this wasnt what i expected which shows how much i know about the dunkel weizen style...aroma is a big burst of wheat, yeast, banana, bubblegum, lemon grass, various citrus

taste: i was a little worried when i read a review detailing a metallic taste but i dont get that at all so maybe that was a bad bottle...what i do get is pretty strong - strong wheat body, active and lively yeast, banana, lemon, light citrus, clove...very fresh, lively, and refreshing

mouthfeel: solid carbonation, clean crisp and refreshing

drinkability: high

Can I call it an amber or red weiss? Also tasted fairly american to me in terms of wheat beers. Maybe I just need to try more wheat beer. Anyways, it was a nice amber color with tall head and great retention. Smelled and tasted of lightly roasted wheat and a bit of fruity malt. Reminds me of a non-hoppy Gumballhead from 3F. Pretty tasty, but I like Franz dunkel and some of the other import dunkels better. Still worth a try.

12 Oz Bottle. Light warm bread dough and sweet pear phenolics aroma. Banana skins, esters-a-plenty, and cold grape juice. A fuming pour, almost gushing. With raging champagne bubbles in a golden-amber elixir. Five fingers of creamy, rocky lacing sticky banana-tinted ivory. A refreshing, rich beer with copious nuanced malts and heavily light toasted pepitas. A surprisingly awakening and complex flavor profile, with a multitude of pale fruit touches and creamy sweet malt. Banana rules. Light grain husks round out and a faint crisp tinge of lemon hops bite into the aftertaste. Excellent body, with a full mouthfeel, yet drinkable and quenching. Edging Belgian, but boldly German.

Presentation: Poured from a 12oz brown bottle into an Imperial pint glass. Label is the typical understated New Glarus un-bleached paper. No freshness date.

Appearance: Pours with the big, generous head of wheat beer. Probably 1.5 - 2 inches of creamy, off white head. This settles slowly into a thick coating of foam with some nice lacing. The beer itself is a bright, polished copper color. Only slightly cloudy.

Smell: Strong aroma of bananas and nuts. Very yeasty with a slightly bready finish.

Taste: Mouthfilling flavor. Creamy with enough carbonation bite and yeast tang to keep it interesting. Fruity and slightly sugary. Bananas with lemons zest in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Aerage carbonation level. Body is good.

Drinkability: As usual, New Glaurs puts out a good beer. THis one seems to lean a little more towards a regular hefeweizen and isn't as dark or caramelly as many dunkels I have had, but tasty nonetheless.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle to a pint glass. The liquid is a dark orange and cloudy with excellent carbonation. The head is a full 3 fingers off white and very lacey.

The smell is of wheat and yeast some caramel notes.

The taste is good yeasty bread and a nice light toasty caramel.

The mouthfeel is very good, lots of good carbonation and a nice body.

The drinkability is also good. I like this brew and it is a little bolder then most.

A: Copper (go figure!), cloudy, lots of carbonation with a rocky head.
S: Banana on top with phenolic clove bite, yeasty, a hint of whiskey.
T: Surprisingly clean up front; caramel and honey sweetness on your tongue until yeast, banana and citrus notes take over; just enough bitterness in the finish to keep things together; clove aftertaste lingers.
M: Full carbonation, but still refreshing.
D: At 5.5%, this definitely qualifies as a session beer.
Overall: Belgian Wits (or poor domestic interpretations thereof) maybe the summer beer du jour right now, but this is a wonderful beer to enjoy on a hot day. The dark malt additions give the beer just enough depth to make it interesting for those that find Hefeweizens too pedestrian. At a time where many brewers think bigger is better, New Glarus continues to impress me with wonderful session beers such as this one.

Initial smell of banana and Juicy Fruit gum.

Pours a turbid orange-amber, with 4 fingers of head into a pilsner glass. Head dies down pretty quick, smell retreats into a more subdued grain & malt, with banana in the background. Second pour with the yeast caused an overflow, should have tilted the glass. Well carbonated to say the least. Foam sticks around for the duration after that...

Tastes bready, malty, banana again toward the end. Hallertau hops cameo mildly in the aftertaste. Yeast gives it a very smooth and drinkable mouthfeel, the only detriment is a mild phenolic note. Easy drinking, would be good for a session.

Bannana, yeast, bubblegum, apple and spice in the aroma. Body is a slightly dirty murly yellow with a massive off white head that is lasting. Estery yeast gives fruit and sweetbread flavors in the fore with banana cream and spice throught the middle. Knocks on the door of cocoa/caramel, but no one opens.

Bottle courtesy of Demcorhip: Poured a cloudy brown color ale with a nice big thick foamy head with great retention and some lacing. Aroma dominated by malt with lots of banana and some caramel malt characteristics. Taste is very malty with some great banana and some light ester notes. Body was full and definitely above average for the style with great carbonation. Great take on a style that I don’t have the chance to experience that often.

s hazy and full of suspension. Big, towering two inch plus head of foam on top nearly would not stay in the glass and really looked quite full. Tons of side glass lace and a great look. Smell was very nice as well, the main player here being a yeasty and wheat aroma, but the nicest blend of roasted malts and even a touch of some caramel or dark nuttiness mixed in really set it off. The flavor was fantastic. Such a smooth creamy feel, but then again such great carbonation that it did not feel too full or too dull. Flavors were all over, you could definitely tell it was a Hefe as the classic flavor was there, but there were definite hints of roasting, or smoked aromas which were also as big and served to not only darken up the flavor but also the color. Really quite rich, with a touch of sweetness in the middle, and a bite of bitter at the end.

appearance: The head explodes, taking up well over half the glass so that I have to wait quite awhile for it to recede enough before I finish pouring. The head is a very light khaki, and the beer a hazy orange-copper. Nice lacing.

smell: A delicious smelling blend of wheat, caramel, and fruity German yeast upfront. Notes of light fruits, especially banana and a touch of apple, are found. Just the right amount of Noble hop aroma. I may be giving a half point too much credit for this parameter, but it smells damn good to me.

mouthfeel: The carbonation is on the lower side of the high range, and the body a lighter medium. Just about right.

taste: Wheaty malts with just a touch of caramel or toffee. Moderate esters of German yeasts make an appearance. Crisp Noble hop flavor and a drying bitterness that lingers into the finish with some wheat and yeast.

drinkability: Quite easy to drink, and interesting enough to keep me sipping.

Pours a nice big head that pours like a hefeweizen and is hard to control. The color is very dark weizen brown. The lacingis good and sticks around quite nice. Aroma is nice with banana, a slight aging has given it some more gum quality which is less desirable in my opinion. The flavor is very nice, but still has that gummy quality which I would like less of. Still a lot of banana which keeps me drinking. Overall, nice, I should have had more when it was fresher.
