Appearance: Cloudy hefeweizen color. Lovely pillowy head.
Smell: Bready yeast with mild spicing.
Taste: Some say they can taste bubblegum flavors in hefeweizens. I never have, but I sure do in this beer! This sweet bubblegum, which I'm probably getting from the cloves, is the dominant flavor. There's also a good amount of yeast and a touch of light fruit.
Mouthfeel: Light and smooth, like a slightly less creamy hefeweizen.
Drinkability: Easy drinking, for sure. Sweetness could slightly hinder the palette if one wants to drink other beers following this one.
Notes: I'm pretty unfamiliar with Belgian Pale Ales, but this seems remarkably similar to a hefeweizen to me. Not quite as bready, not quite as creamy, and a tad more fruity, but still has the major qualities of a good hefe. This is certainly not a complaint, and mostly just shows my ignorance of Belgian "singles". Regardless of all this, it's another winner from New Glarus!
