look: 4.5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.5

Presentation: 12oz brown pop top with really nice label with some info about the beer; no freshness date to be seen

Appearance: Medium-hazy dark gold/burnt orange beer capped with a beautiful, dense white cap which fades to a thick, quite persistent film. Tiny-bubbled carbonation rises steadily.

Smell: Wonderful banana bread and spice greet the nose immediately; as this warms slightly, tarter, yeasty and slightly funky notes emerge as well. This is dead on for the style and smells absolutely delicious.

Taste: Fulfills my expectations from the aromas, and that was not easy to do. Tart banana, snappy wheat, mild sweet baking spice, crisp, tart finish. And all bright and vibrant to the max. This is pretty friggin close to being the perfect hefeweizen. By far the best American version I've ever had.

Mouthfeel: Light, crisp, and refreshing, with just a bit of substance.

Drinkability: Massive; both the wife and I agreed that the 7.2% abv is absolutely undetectable in this. You could go through a six pack and suddenly wonder why you can't stand up straight.

Conclusion: Damn. Good. Hefeweizen. Period.

Damn, I think this qualifies as an imperial hefe. At least it does in my book. And to clarify: It's an amplified hefeweizen that stays dry without the heavier body and fruitier flavors of a weizenbock. There's a big spicy clove aroma with hints of earthy, rustic bread and orange peel. The flavor gets fruitier, balancing a milder peppery spice level with touches of banana and berry with a malty edge of toast. The beer continues with little hits of vanilla and milky caramel. Man, what a beer. This is likely the best German wheat I've had and on par with a great Belgian tripel.

A. Cloudy golden orange in color. 2 fingers of creamy white head that sits like a pillow on the beer. Some lacing but not as much as I'd expect given the head. None the less, this looks great

S. Clove, banana and bubble gum. Lots of the Belgian ester yeast

T. Strong taste of over-ripe banana. Clove spice. Bubble gum is present though not as much as the nose would suggest.

M. Light to medium body. Creamy mouth feel with the slightest alcohol tinge on the back end. dry finish

O. Normally I don't care for hefes but this one is quite tasty. I could see myself buying a 6 pack to enjoy in the summer heat.
