Second helping of this beer: not as unbelievable as I recall. Ah, memory. Still good, but not as wonderful as I thought it once was.
Appearance is brighter and clearer than I recorded, only partially hazy.
Banana ester strongest in aftertaste, less pronounced upfront than remembered.
Bottle brought from Wisconsin by my friend Aaryn, of whom much thanks go to.
Pours a rather explosive head; you will need to pour slowly and take breaks in order to fit this into an entire glass. Head is off-white and very fluffy, not overly dense. Recedes over several minutes, but never fades away completely. Leaves dainty lacing on side of glass. Beer is deep golden-yellow color, opaque, but with some carbonation visible along sides and top.
Scent features strong wheat malt, phenolic/clove, residual yeast, and ester/banana components. There is nothing second-rate about this scent, every component is very much discernible and interacts well with each other.
Taste follows along similar lines as scent, opening with banana and wheat malt, then adding in phenolics and yeast, and finally adding in a bit of vanilla, bubblegum and hop presence. Again, I've never had a hefeweizen with such pronounced characteristics, each one proudly proclaiming itself.
The beer is medium-bodied, with slightly higher than average levels of carbonation, but it doesn't hurt this beer's flavor or enjoyment. Finish is slightly dry. The ethanol content is well-hidden in all departments except on the consumer's body.
This was an exceptional hefeweizen in every regard. The only drawback is it's ethanol content, which prevents this from being as drinkable as I would like it to be.
