Another great secret santa 09 beer from maximum12, poured from a bottle into a sam adams perfect pint. This is by far the best looking wheat beer I have ever seen poured into a glass. It is hazy and murky and effervescent. There is an incredible glow at the base of the beer, and the range of oranges and yellows really make this a site. The head is a very thick frothing white foam that slowly resides, leaving an ample amount of bubbly lacing.

After the appearance the smell is definitely a bit of a let down, there are hints of clove, pepper, citrus but they are all a bit subdued behind a heavy biscuit malt.

The taste is a great balance of lemon citrus, light spice, crisp wheat, clove and biscuity malt. None of the flavors overpower any of their counterparts and each of them contribute beautifully to a very nice wheat beer flavor.

The beer is perfectly carbonated and has a nice light body with crisp, well-balanced flavors. The alcohol never shows up, and this is something I think I would appreciate even more in the summer, but it's delicious in January as well.

Pours a golden amber color with full plume of dense, bone white bubbles, good retention. Scent and taste are made up of similar traits to other Hefes, most true to style - tangy wheat, banana, clove and spice, white bread, hints of bubblegum and a splash of citrus. What makes this beer special is the way they all blend and balance, not one component is more aggressive than the other. I've had Hefe's that are too bready, too banana-y and too lemony - this one is just right on all fronts. Suprisingly dense body, still smooth and lightly bubbly. Overall, quite the drinkable Hefe with nice layered flavor and scent.

New Glarus Dancing Man Wheat pours a massive head
over a cloudy orange brew. Carbonation is extremely
brisk- the nose is clove and fruit yeast esters. The flavor
is a spicy echo of the nose, with a bit of sharp peppery
alcohol in the finish. The mouthfeel is crisp and a little
dry. Again, the good people of Wisconsin are blessed
with a world-class brewer- this is one of the better hefe's
I've had.

Thanks to two generous BAs for bottles of this beer: Elric73 and BeerFMAndy. Thanks guys!

12oz bottle poured into a weizen glass. Pours a dark, über-cloudy gold. A thick, lustrous 3-finger head capped it off. Excellent retention; left light lace. Scents of pineapple, banana, bubblegum, yeast, coriander. Wow! Great nose! The mouth is moderately-carbonated, with a subtle bite on the finish. Moderate-to-full body. The fruity quality carries over well in to the flavor. Notes of yeast, pineapple, some mild breads, and faint spices. Well-balanced. This was a treat of a beer. Even "out of season" this would be a great, refreshing beer. Thanks again for the opportunity, fellow BAs...

Thanks to northyorksammy for the trade.
Hazy straw yellow with a bit of an orange hue and a fluffy white cap that settled quickly. Thick, sticky lacing. Aromas of clove, wheat, banana, lemon, a bit of bubblegum, marshmallow. Crackery malt flavour with lemon and banana, spicy clove throughout, honey, light alcohol and tropical fruit towards the end. Medium bodied, smooth carbonation, good texture. Quite a tasty hefe.

12 oz bottle courtesy of mtrutlin. It was poured into my petite Duvel tulip.

Dancing Man Wheat pours a dull orange, with zero visibility through the glass thanks to some haze. About three fingers of frothy white foam rise up to crown the beer. Head retention is just a bit brief, and there's not much lacing left behind at all. The nose has a ton of banana fruitiness to it, along with a bready aroma that's reminiscent of sourdough. The flavor is still centered around banana esters. There's a bit of clove present here though, providing a nice counterpoint. Wheaty- bread notes fill out the potent flavor profile. The mouthfeel is definitely the weak point here. The body is too full and chewy, and the carbonation is too dull by far. I guess that's the danger of making a hefeweizen that gets all the way up to over 7% ABV. Despite that, Dancing Man Wheat is one of the more flavorful, enjoyable weizens I've had from an American brewer.

Heard only good things bout' this hefe so I gave er' a go.

A- Nice hazy yellow-gold color with white head

S- smells great I give this beer that! Gum clove lemon!

T- Found this beer very tasty buttt the taste at the end/aftertaste was kind of crazy intense to me like a reallly wheaty clove taste.

M- seemed light not too shabby don't seem like a 7.2%

D- It's drinkable but really I only want one of these at a crack the end notes are bit too much for my palate

No date that I can find.

A: Pours a lightly hazy golden. Big fizzy, soda-like white head that fades out almost instantly. No lacing or head retention whatsoever.

S: Mild and tasty wheat. Mild crisp citrus. Pretty subtle aroma.

T: Oh yeah, this is nice. Robust wheat character with lots of nice orange. Banana in the middle. Simple but delicious.

M: Medium bodied and smooth.

O: Really nice Hefe. Super super smooth tasting and drinking. Goes down so easily and definitely gets bonus points for that. Relatively simple (it's a Hefe, what do you expect) and a little bit bolder and heavier than your average I think. Really stands out as a result. One of the very best I've ever had.

Big thanks to TheManiacalOne for this bottle.

a - pours a bright hazy golden color with a big white head, good retention and little lacing

s - big spicy and wheaty aroma, clove and cinnamon, some banana, hints of alcohol

t - big clove and banana flavors up front, mid-palate is more spicy leading to a sweet finish with lots of wheat, more clove with slight cinnamon, some citrus, hints of alcohol and grain

m - medium-bodied, moderate carbonation, well balanced finish

d - quite drinkable, easy on the palate and the alcohol is there but not overwhelming at all

Very good hefe overall. Just a notch below my German favorites and probably the best I've tasted from an American brewer.

S - Banana clove and pepper dominate the smell.

T - Smells transfer to taste, surrounded by pretty evident sweet malt. Spicy finish.

M - Medium body that feels thicker than it is. Very coating, good carb.

D - Pretty nice, easy to drink.

12oz. bottle courtesy of Soonami. Served in my Weihenstephaner weizen glass. Pours 90% head - voluminous, dense and cream-colored. As the head gradually settles into a one inch solid cap, thick, bands of textured lacing are revealed in its wake. Body is golden-orange with just a slight haze. Nose expresses banana esters and yeast. Taste follows nose; however, banana character is less intense and there is also a pleasant lemony character. Mouthfeel is light in body with a delicate, even carbonation and a slight acidity. A really excellent domestic Hefeweizen with an incredibly well-hidden abv. I would drink the hell out of this beer if it were an accessible seasonal. It's very good and definitely in my top 5 for the style; however, Weihenstephaner is still my hand's down favorite.

12 oz. bottle into a weizen glass

Pours a deep golden color, perfectly cloudy, with a two inch off-white head which forms a nice mesa on top. Retention is good throughout and it leaves some nice lacing.

Aroma is quite heavy on the banana esters, some apple and bubble gum, surrounded by a bready wheat base, light on the clove spice, but it's a nice addition.

Taste is a lot like the aroma. Big on banana esters, bready wheat backdrop, bit of bubble gum and apple, but there is much more clovey spiciness in the finish.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, made a bit lighter by higher carbonation.

Pretty enjoyable beer. The taste wasn't quite up to the aroma, but it was worth trying.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into my Harpoon UFO hefe glass. Appears a cloudy pale straw color with two solid fingers of fluffy, lingering, bone white head. A great looking pour. Nose and flavor are of spicy ,peppery yeast, sweet bananas, some citrus, mainly lemons, lightly toasted wheat, some clove. Delicious stuff. Falls somewhere between medium and full bodied with ample carbonation. Quite drinkable, as my glass was empty in no time.

Smell: Bananas with a touch of clove.

Taste: Cloves come first in the taste, some spiciness. Sweet bananas in the middle and a little citrus at the end.

Drinkability: A little strong to have more than a couple but tasty.

Another great wheat beer from New Glarus. Looks great, tastes great, reasonably priced. Just about everything you could want except wide distribution.

12oz bottle poured into a weiss glass. thanks to demcorhip for this one.

Gorgeous beer. Three inches of head off a gentle pour and a glowing yellow-orange colour. Big chunks of swirling yeast, extremely hazey. Very entertaining to look at and beautiful. Amped up weiss aromas, the typical banana and clove, coriander, oranges wheat, bready and husky and grassy. It just like a delicious dessert. Mellow with just a touch of zippiness....

Flavour is wonderfully mellow with lots of wheaty goodness. Fruity sweetness, banana, pears, apples balanced out very well with the lemon sourness and tartness that's typical of the style. Peppery and zippy on the tongue, Full flavoured as all get out. Carbonation is refreshing and the mouthfeel is never too thick. Alcohol is hidden so well, it's so bloody drinkable. New Glarus is making the best wheat beers in the states right now in my mind, classically flavoured but never compromising. Brilliant stuff!

Poured from Bottle into Pint glass.

Pours a cloudy yellow orange with a pillowing 3 inch egg-white head that slowly dissolves into a nice layer atop the glass. Aroma is strong banana and clove with some touches of lemon. The flavor is spicy with banana and clove and some mild hop flavor that comes across as spicy also has some alcohol warmth. Its a medium bodied beer that is crispy but somehow has a certain creaminess to it. Lots of banana and clove deliciousness in this one and I'm loving it. Overall, this is a delicious high octane hefeweizen that you should probably be drinking right now.

Hazy copper with loads of carbonation erupting from below. The head is massive, holding nicely. Smell is a classic blend of yeast and clovey spice, with a subtle wheat malt sweetness.

In the flavor you notice right away this is a notch above a typical Hefe in terms of alcohol/strength. The mouthfeel doesn't have quite as much foamy fluffiness either. The flavor is nice but not amazing. Nice dry wheat maltiness with a touch of banana, but not enough complex spice to bring it to the top. The alcohol is not overly present, but noticible enough, and I don't think that is welcome for this type of beer.

Overall a solid choice for a Hefe. I liked everything except for that slight added astringence at the end. Recommended...

Poured a nice hazy gold color. I rolled it on the counter before opening to get the sediment in the pour. I like sediment

Nose is bananas and spice, some malt.

Mouthfeel is creamy, nice carbonation. Good weight, rich but not too heavy.

Taste is Bavarian Weizen on steroids! Big banana, balanced by some floral hops and subtle but apparent clove/coriander notes. Absolutely delicious from the first cold sip to the 50 degree sip. While not necessarily a pounder, it's very, very easy drinking.

Delightful!

Acquired via trade from brdc, so a big “Thank you” goes out to him. Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a weizen glass.

A: The beer is a cloudy light amber color with a thin but dense white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of wheat, banana, lemon and spice along with light malts and a little bit of hops.

T: The taste starts out very bready with a strong wheat flavor dominating as you would expect from the style. There’s not a lot of sweetness but there are flavors of banana, lemon and some spices. The hops presence is mild as it should be. The after-taste is bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and very smooth, light-to-medium body, medium-to-heavy carbonation, clean finish.

D: Tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, good representation of style, nice strong kick for the style, this is a very good beer to stick with for an evening. I could definitely drink quite a few of these.

Appears a really hazy light copper color, with a good bit of bubbles rising up. Bright white head tops things off, about two fingers width. Very good retention, with pretty good lacing for the style.

Lots to pick up in the smell, anything from banana to bubble gum, apricot, hints of clove, cinnamon, cardamom, and black pepper. Light bready malts interweave nicely.

Taste is more of the same, a good deal of apricot, peach and banana fruityness. A good deal more clove on the palate than the nose, and some residual strawberry on the swallow which may point to a little bit of flavor contribution from the alcohol.

I like the feel, less spritzy than I would have imagined, nice and soft, almost creamy at first, then feels a little more lively and has quite a nice medium body. Finishes fairly dry.

Drinks relatively well for its strength. I didn't actually realize it was over 7% until I started reviewing it on here and noticed the strength. It's quite a contemplative beer for the style, which is a good thing, but it's not something I would consider thirst quenching. Overall I really enjoyed this, thanks for sending it out this way Kegatron.

Thanks to dug for throwing this in as an extra in our recent trade. Everything I have by New Glarus is great and this is no exception. Pours hazy gold with an inch of white head. Smells and tastes of banana peel, cloves, and really really strong bubblegum. The most bubblegum I've ever found in a beer. Body is great - light to medium with lots of refreshing carbonation. A highly drinkable brew.

This pours a pale, yellow color, it's slightly hazy, but quite a bit clearer than many hefes I've had. The head is quite explosive, billowing to a mighty froth with even the most delicate of pours. The aggressive carbonation is evident by a cascade of tiny bubbles that feed the everlasting head.

The aroma is quite heavy in fruity esters, predominated by banana, but I think the cloves take the front seat in this category. A very subtle citrus aroma is also detected mid-way through.

The flavor also consists of these yeasty esters, and once again I feel that the clove makes it's presence known, but it has a great cushion of banana and other fruity flavors to really keep it in check. Sweet, refreshing, fruity and hop-free.

The beer feels bubbly and sweet on the tongue. A great, refreshing mouthfeel. An awesome beer to consume throughout the summer, I can think of nothing better than to be sitting around a campfire on a hot summer's eve sipping on some Dancing Man Wheat Beer (except maybe to be sipping some Crack'd Wheat).

Pours a golden color with about a finger of foam which quickly falls to a thin layer. The aroma is of wheat malt and fruits like apple, pear, banana, orange and a little lemon and spice. Taste is similar to the aroma, quite good. Mouthfeel and carbonation are right on with what a good wheat beer should have, clean and refreshing. Great beer for a hot day.
