look: 3.5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. It pours a straw color with a 1 inch, basically white, head that is thing but slowly reduces to a nice lacing around the edges. Quite carbonated and no sediment.

The aroma is quite good with notes of banana and clove. There is a bready feel to it and additional sweetness that I can't quite place.

The taste is, as the nose. A decent level of banana and bread with a clove spiciness that accents well. There again lingers a sweetness that is almost like generic gum.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a healthy dose of carbonation that was a bit too much for me, given the flavor but actually cuts the intensity. Smooth and yet leaving a velvet texture at the finish with mild dryness.

Overall, this is a reasonably good beer. I'm impressed by the rating that it has but a little surprised. I think it is definitely worth trying and quite good. (890 characters)

A: Well carbonated brew here. Head is a towering mass of creamy whipped butter colored bubbles…so much that I need to wait to continue pouring. The body is a cloudy and drab peach colored hue leaning towards the dull side of things.

S: Spicy wheat, soured grass clippings, some smooth green banana, clove and a pinch of black pepper.

T: Starts out with a nice balance of dried hay, fresh grass clippings and young banana essence. Transition is seemless to white grape, little bit of limestone and just a tad of grainy flavors. Sweetness is delicate but somewhat cloying after a bit. Finishes yeasty and dry but a solid wash a sweetness across the back sides of the tongue.

M: Medium body and smooth.

D: Very nice German style hefe indeed. It’s a tough balance to get the dry, sweet and grainy flavors just to the right level and these guys at New Glarus are no slouches. Totally enjoyable but I wonder how many I could drink. (932 characters)

A- Hazy apricot-orange. Head is half a finger off-white. Fair retention and some lacing.
S- The aroma is medicinal, banana, spice, and a bit of plastic.
T- Up front it's big a fruity with banana and apricot. There is a hint of medicinal and spice in the middle. The finish bring a bigger alcohol presence than your average hefe. Some lingering spice in the finish as well.
M- Medium body for a hefeweizen. At first I deemed this to be pretty crisp but there is some lingering stickyness.
O- A good hefe. A bit boozy but on the whole, I like this one quite a bit. (563 characters)

A - pours a nice light rust orane with about a 1/4 inch of foam that quickly disappeared and left only a ring of bubbles around the glass with no lacing whatsoever

S - nice wheat aroma with hints of orange and banana

T - wheat taste with hints of banana and orange but an overwhelming taste of bubblegum

M/D - nice medium bodied Hefe that keeps me coming back to the glass frequently. I've been very happy with all my New Glarus brews and I only wish I could get them locally. Nice stuff. (491 characters)

This beer poured out as a nice hazy golden color with a big fluffy white head on top. The retention and lacing were really impressive on this. The smell is loaded with fresh grain, clove, banana and bready lemons. The taste of the beer is lightly flavored with some spices and soft wheat. There is a light amount of citrus in there too. The mouthfeel is smooth, light and drinkable. Overall this beer is very good, it would be best in the summer time. (451 characters)

A: again w/ the large frothy head. What a pretty site! Somewhat cleaner looking golden pour, compared to the Unplugged Hef, but still somewhat hazy golden...Yet, very active at the same time as the bubbles continue to rise...

S: To be honest, smells much like the Unplugged Hefe as well... bit lighter..but grassy, sweet, lemon-citrus twists...bits of banana and clove maybe?

T: Somewhat along the path tha the nose takes you...the hints of clove and banana followed by some grassiness and citrus...yeasty presence showing its wheat backbone

M: Fairly solid for hefe, but nothing spectacular per say...

O: Pretty good brew here. New Glarus pumps out quality! Try it if you haven't. (686 characters)

A: Pours a hazy light golden color with a fluffy white head.

S: Yup, this smells like a hefe (and a good one at that)! Belgian yeast and banana dominate the aroma.

T: After the smell I thought this would just be your average hefe, but not quite. The 7.2% ABV, quite high for the style, gives this beer a different flavor than any other hefe I've had. Yes it's got that typical banana/yeast flavor, but this is a bit of a heftier beer than I'm used to in this style. It's maltier and not nearly as crisp or refreshing as your average hefe, but this all works very well.

M: Mouthfeel is a little heavier than your average hefe, but still on the light-bodied side of the spectrum and very carbonated.

O: This is a nice hefe, and one a little different from your average one, but I don't really see what all the fuss is about with this. It's a good beer, but not an outstanding one. This definitely is not on the same level as the Live Oak. (943 characters)

look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4

Appearance: Pours like a German hefe, with an impressive head that tops the goldenstraw liquid, leaving all matter of lacing around the glass

Smell: Bananas, wheat and clove

Taste: Like the smell, a nice banana and clove character with the wheat trailing behind

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation; could be a bit creamier

Overall: A very nice example of the style by a brewery that has yet to disappoint (421 characters)

The dancing man wheat is another great creation from New Glarus and continues to give Wisconsin a great name for micro brewing. The appearance is a cloudy yellow with nice frothy white head that lace well. The smell was powered with citrus/lemony notes. The taste was very carbonated but very good. the lemon/citrus effervecense in the flavor was great and absolutely worth the try!!! (384 characters)

A very good Hefe. It looks, smells, and tastes just like a hefe should. The clove is well blended with the banana, which I appreciate because I tend to like more banana-leaning hefes. The body/mouthfeel of the beer is excellent, slightly chewy but in a very refreshing way.

I wish I could pound multiples of these beers, like I feel hefes were really intended for, but unfortunately the ABV keeps that option at bay.

Still a knockout offering from NG. (453 characters)

12oz longneck
A) Pours with a big active white head. Unfiltered with a yellow-orange color.
S) Light notes of coriander, sweet orange peel, and hints of clove.
T) Pleasant wheat flavor - sweet citrus and earthy spice. Some citrus sour in the finish.
M) Chewy. On the lighter side of medium body.
O) A well craft beer. Easy drinking and pleasant tasting. (354 characters)

Thanks to LJarsenal for this extra in a trade.

Big Silky smooth white head with a Michael Jackson like dancing of carbonation inside the bottle. You know, the spin around grab crotch into moonwalk routine and destroy cars like Dirty Diana. It's alive. Beautiful pale lemon yellow with golden honey highlights

Classic hefe smell of banana, yeast, cloves. This has the funk of forty thousand years!

Very good taste. Refreshing hefe, with a little more malt and slight acid taste, some bubble gum even. Annie are you Ok? Are you ok Annie? You've been struck by, You've been hit by... a smooth dancin man..

Creamy silky aftertaste that trickles down your throat. If this beer were a Michael Jackson song it would be P.Y.T. If it were a video, probably black and white, because each sip morphs into a different celebrity. Fortunately no Rap in the middle of this by Home Alone boy. (881 characters)

Notes from last week, I waited to post this so cbutova wouldn't know I got a nice package of Wisconsin beers. Much thanks to jmp485 for trading this. Poured into a weizen glass.

Hazy golden with a huge sticky white head. Eventually stays at about half a finger and leaves a little bit of lacing.

Nose is sweet, spicy and aromatic. Lots of wheat, cinnamon, clove and bubblegum.

Flavors aren't as strong as they are in the scent, but strong nonetheless. Huge amount of bubblegum and sugary sweetness seems to take the lead here. Some banana and clove but not as much as I usually get in a hefeweizen. Some medicinal notes and alcohol taste. Nice fresh lemony yeast on the finish.

Carbonation seems huge at first but seems to tone down after time. Overall smooth and a little bit creamy.

Definitely not your average hefe, sweetness I think is a little over the top, but I enjoyed it. (889 characters)

Thanks to grub for opening this 12 oz.

Pours a hazy golden/orange, thin bone white head forms, settles to a thick ring, some lace spots on the glass. Smell is buttery, honey, some brown sugar, banana, clove, almost cinnamon like spiciness, alcohol is slightly detectable, interesting. Taste is caramel sweetness, wheat, honey, some light grass, banana and tropical fruit, cloves, spice, alcohol is well hidden, quite nice. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with medium to high carbonation, spritzy, alcohol warmth, quite nice. Solid wheat beer, thanks Russ! (560 characters)

Picked up this single in a mix in match going through Prescott. There is a date on the bottle, not clear if its freshness or bottle, but its 7/28.

Off the pour the head is a billowing monster up to nearly 3 inches and I havnt poured the whole bottle.
Head settles rather quickly leaving a solid cap of retention. Color is a light copper golden. A small amount of haze in there.

Aroma is brilliant, caramel forward, grainy sweetness, plenty of lemon and a clove likeness.

Some sweet flavors upfront, drying out quick and dry on the finish. Floral hops, clove/ belgiany funk coming forward strong, as well as a bit of sourdough breadyness and a touch of malt.
Mild warmth through the swallow. Finishing tart with some lemon, warmth and banana.
Light and crisp mouthfeel.

A terrific brew for the style, although not somthing I'd seek out as its not my type of styled beer. However still a solid beer and excellent for the style. (932 characters)

A - Golden orange with a thick white head.

S - Aroma consists of banana, spicy clove, a touch of vanilla, yeast and wheat malt.

T - A hearty wheat malt front exhibits flavors of clove and banana. The flavor seems a little phenolic in the middle where there's a strong yeast presence that follows. A little odd, but non-the-less it doesn't detract too much from the overall enjoyable of the beer.

MF - Full-bodied mouthfeel.

D - This is as close as it comes to a classic example of the style. Straightforward and enjoyable. If you're a fan of hefe weizens then this is a must try. Nice summer offering. (613 characters)

Poured a murky golden orange in color with yellow highlights that had a 2 finger head which dissipated quite fast and left some frothy lacing sticking to the glass. The coriander is very apparent in the nose with banana, slight spice, and belgian yeast notes. The coriander and the banana flavor mesh really well alongside belgian yeasty and wheat grain accents. The brew was medium in body with a good amount of carbonation which had a sweet, spice, slight fruity , yeasty, and grainy finish. It drank good and was a solid hefeweizen with all the characteristics I look for in a hef. (584 characters)

Poured a golden straw yellow with a two finger head that's quite impressive. Lacing to boot.

Very aromatic banana and clove fragrances.

Spritzy banana balanced with mild spices such as clove and pepper. Coriander is interwoven throughout and kind of ties everything together.

Very smooth mouthfeel, low carbonation with a tingle of spice on the palate.

Overall has great sessionability if you can get past the 7.2% abv. Very easy drinking and will look forward to having again sometime. (490 characters)

Poured from a bottle into a duvel tulip glass.

A: A cloudy hazy dark gold color with a one finger white fluffy head. Nice glass lacing.

S: Yeasty with light fruit smells and some bready malts.

T: Fruit flavors pop with banana and citrus and some drying wheat. The yeasty clove flavor comes right behind to mix with the fruit along with some bready malt. A bit of sweetness is detected, but not overly so. Finish is yeasty with some sweetness. Nice beer.

M: Medium, smooth and no hints of alcohol.

D: High, really good beer that one can have a few of. Be careful though, abv will hit you hard.

Overall a real nice German style Hefe that I really enjoyed. Good beer, wish I could get it here in PA as I got this one as an extra in a trade. (743 characters)

12 oz pour into a pint glass. Here we go:

A - hazy golden/yellow color with pretty massive head. Plenty of carbonation in this one.

S - Clove and spice

T - Tart flavor with spices, ginger and cinnamon dominate.

M - A little fizzy...sounds tacky, but it feels like it's dancing in my mouth

D - Goes down real well, abv a little high to be able to session, but I could go for another.

Another fine brew from New Glarus. (425 characters)

A - Just what you want in a hefeweizen. Cloudy, light orange body with some wheat in it. Head is larger and pretty white - just slight orange.

S - A little bit of artificial pez like sugar aroma. Some wheat in it. Simple.

T - Great flavor. Orange, clove, and some cinnamon. Also simple and it fits the smell. Sweet.

M - Strong carbonation which holds up a lighter body. A little buttery on the tongue. Refreshing and nice.

O - This is not a crazy beer, but a real nice hefeweizen. Simple and sweet. Amazing how it is all the way up at 7.2%. (545 characters)

S: Strong banana and spice. Fantastic.

T: More spice in the flavor with a lingering banana plus a bit of acidity.

M: Very carbonated.

O: Very very spice forward and quite good for an American hefe, but not the best buy New Glarus by far. (321 characters)
