Appearance: Pours like a German hefe, with an impressive head that tops the goldenstraw liquid, leaving all matter of lacing around the glass

Smell: Bananas, wheat and clove

Taste: Like the smell, a nice banana and clove character with the wheat trailing behind

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation; could be a bit creamier

Overall: A very nice example of the style by a brewery that has yet to disappoint

A - pours a straw yellow color with a billowing white head that settles to form a creamy layer

S - nose is made up of spicy nutmeg, cloves, an bubblegum

T - starts off with sweet bubblegum flavors which move on to a nice wheat malt base. The bubble gum erupts on the back end and really dominates the finish. A very subtle hop presence in the finish, however the bubblegum yeast flavors really overwhelm everything.

M - full and smooth bodied

D - overall, this is a really nice hefeweizen, especially from this side of the pond. I think the bubblegum was cranked up a bit too much for my liking, but that being said, this is in the same league as the big time German players in the hefe game.

12oz bottle

A: Cloudy yellow with a fluffy white head. Leaves some residual legs.

N: Clove, banana, cinnamon. Plenty of malt sweetness through the nose. Peppercorn spice.

T: Somewhat spicy with a long bitter finish tucked over the malt and grain. Really nice for such a light beer.

M: Somewhat fluffy and filling/bready.

O: Really impressive for the style. I think this would make Weihenstephaner proud.

12oz bottle poured into a New Glarus 20th Anniversary Pilsner Glass.

The beer pours a hazy golden copper color, visible bubbles rising from the bottom to the top of the glass with a big fluffy, white head that vanishes quickly and leaves no lacing behind. The aroma is a nice balance of banana and clovey yeast, pale wheat and sweet grain and a bit of cracked peppercorn. The flavors are right in line, lots of banana, wheat, sweetcorn, clove and lemon with some sweet pale bready grain and an earthy pepper presence and a bit of saltiness. The body is nice, carbonation is a bit lower than anticipated, but it coats the mouth well and finishes with a nice creamy touch and just a touch of prickly bubbles.

Verdict: A decent Hefeweizen from New Glarus, and honestly, a bit of a letdown from this brewery. This still hits the mark as a refreshing seasonal but compared to some of the other lagers that New Glarus makes, this one just seems to fall short.
