a clean light golden pour with 2 fingers of fluffy white head which dissipated slowly and gave off a nice soapy looking lacing. smells of wheat bread, slight citrus notes, very bready yeast. a nice traditional sourness, very subtle with a lemon tart/zest, lots of bready notes, definitely lots of wheat. a very well balanced beer for the style, even though i'd prefer the extreme one sided sour, this is not it and yet still a great beer. light body with high carbonation, a dry and refreshing beer for the summer.

i definitely recommend picking up a 4pk of this for those who can acquire it. if you are looking for a more sour feel, then i'd recommend their other seasonal right now (wild sour ale), but this is not to be overlooked.

New Glarus' Berliner Weisse is a classic, true-to-style beer for excellent session drinking, exhibiting soured wheat malt with light yogurt, lemony citric acid, and bread-like nuances. While this is quite good, and fairly authentic, I would probably not seek this out upon its return: I prefer more tartness in my soured beers.

Pours a 2cm tall head of clean, white foam, made up of small bubbles and dense in appearance, retention lasting slightly above average at 1.5 minutes. Fades to a thin cap of lace atop the body of the beer. Lacing is minimal to nonexistent, a few small dots occasionally cling to the sides of the glass. Body is a slightly hazy (20% opaque), pale yellow color, with light bringing out ever more ghostly shades of yellow. Carbonation is visible through the body, moderate in number and activity.

Aroma of mildly soured wheat malt giving a mild, though solid tartness, balanced with residual, heavy bready sweetness and a faint citric acid lemon.

Overall flavor of pleasantly soured wheat malt with yogurt, lemon, and bread-like influences. Front of palate picks up lightly tart, yogurt-influenced wheat malt, with slight lemon citric acid notes as well. Mid-palate of pleasantly soured wheat malt giving this a mild tartness, with citric acid lemon and balanced wheat malt breadiness. Back of palate picks up stronger tartness with more pronounced complexity from acids (subtle fruit, spices) and much reduced bready wheat malt characters. Aftertaste of pleasant graininess, lingering plain yogurt, and faint tartness.

Beer is medium bodied, with medium levels of carbonation intensity, resulting in a perfectly foamy and smooth mouthfeel that complements the beer quite nicely. Closes semi-dry, with surprisingly substantial stickiness on the lips and palate.
