2013 (Thumbprint) batch. 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. Huge thanks to Yamar68 for this one!

A - Pours a hazy light yellow/amber body. Three fingers of fluffy white foam initially that simmers down into a super thin capping and some patchy edging. Moderate lacing and a swirl creates a new layer of foam.

S - Fruity with notes of lemon, pear and green grapes. Some lactic acid followed by a lot of crackery malts. It almost finishes like a fruited adjunct lager in terms of how the tart fruitiness goes up against a cereal graininess. Not overly exciting but very standard for the style.

T - Tart lemons and pear with a huge wave of wheat and crackers. This is almost lemon-meringue like. Some lactic acid and a dry wine-like finish. Extremely refreshing and satisfying. Mouth feel is crisp yet full and creamy.

O - Nothing ground breaking, and honestly I've had home brews that were better, but this is still a really solid berliner. I would love to have regular access to this as it would probably never leave my fridge during the summer.

Poured into a pilsner glass this recently purchased BW is super heady (brilliant white) with big time lacing and a stubborn head-surprising quality for a sour. Light pale straw in color and completely clear with lots of tiny bubbles.

A bit grainy in aroma with plenty of fruitiness and hints of white wine from the Riesling grapes. Weak sour notes.

The grainy, bready character of this beer is a bit stronger than the lactic sour notes which although unexpected for the style makes it a lot easier for a non-sour fan to enjoy. The white wine character is here as well given it's grape taste and high carbonation but with the malt character this is definitely a beer.

Light bodied and highly carbonated. Not overly drying in the finish. No alcohol character at all. Easy to drink.

The sourness in this beer is subdued and not overpowering making this is a refreshing easy to drink Berliner Weiss. The fruitiness adds a nice touch to this beer. Although different then most beers of this style with its subdued sourness and stronger fruity character I really like it for it's drinkability and mix of malt, yeast, sour and fruit. Purists of the style likely to be disappointed.

A- pale straw yellow with no haze. 2 finger very white & fluffy head. Great lacing.

S- Sweetness from cereal grains. Sour notes of grapes, but not overpowering. A hint of lemon zest it there as well.

T- well balanced sour grapes and lemons offset by sweet grain flavors. A little tartness mixed in as well. Very tasty and easy to drink.

M- light mouthfeel. Lots of carbonation makes this go down easy for a sour. The finish was longer than I expected, with a pleasant lemony taste lingering on the back end.

O- I have never been a huge fan of sours, but this one might just convince me otherwise. Really a well done brew and possibly my favorite Thumbprint yet.

This is my first experience with a Berliner Weiss and if this is a true example of the style it may be my last. Wow! This is some sour, sour stuff. It is clearly a well crafted beer with it's fine carbonation, beautiful light body, champagne like mouthfeel, and dryness, but I cant get past the sour taste enough to really enjoy the complexities of this beer. Dan Carey is a great brewer and I am a big fan of many of his creations, but I don't think I'll be going for this one again. Although, I might.
