Got this bottle from my boy spointon, I am in debt to you, sir. Been wanting this beer since I heard it was coming out so I am stupid excited. 12oz bottle with 05/09 written on the label served up in a tulip.
A: Oh you are a looker, Iced Barleywine. The pour is a dark and rich brown. Very dark with light red hues sneaking out at the bottom of the glass. Held to the light, some serious garnet colors radiate. A somewhat vigorous pour got me a finger of light biege colored head which is creamy and a little thick. After a few minutes it falls to a substantial creamy ring that notches the glass all the way down the glass. I am happy camper just looking at it.
S: Oh its so sweet and boozy in the nose. Lots of roasted caramel candy presence. Good amount of brown sugar and molasses. Little bit of fruit coming out with some figgy goodness. Behind that there is a honey bourbon boozy quality here. Pure alcohol does linger as well. Little bit of floral and citrus hops presence pop up from time to time.
T: Tasty goodness, yo! Getting the booze here first. Really nice sherry presence along with that honey bourbon I mentioned in the nose. The alcohol is cut with the caramel malts and sugary goodness. Light brown sugar coming through, reminding me of caramelized figs. The hops are very light, but I am getting notes of citrus, floral and grass. Justa nice earthiness that brings this beer together for me. Damned fine.
M: Full bodied, lightly carbonated beauty. This is creamy and a little oily on the palate. This has some serious coating to it that has some lasting power. It really brings some boozy ABV warmth that warms the throat, almost intensely at times. Aftertaste is caramel and boozy goodness.
D: I really had to pace myself with this one because I could have killed this with a few well timed gulps. Everything about this beer works for me. The flavors are really on point for me, and it comes really close to perfection. I probably could have given this another year to let this develop even more, but I loved it. I want more and I want more now. So . . . Damned . . . Good.

Nice lacing and they nailed the color. Dark fruits, caramel, booze, candy sugar, oxidation on the nose. Taste follows the nose plums raisins alcohol complementary oxidation to an aged barley wine. Medium carbonation and works with the style. I love aged barlywine's and this is a good one but the heat from the alcohol keeps this from getting a very good rating. Would drink again if I had another one.
