Cool days draw us close to the warmth of home fires. This is the season to sip away the chill and embrace quiet evenings with friends and family.

You hold a Wisconsin Style Honey Bock, easy going and more approachable than its traditional dark German cousin. Bock beers have existed in Wisconsin for over 150 years. This pale bock is brewed with an exclusive blend of Wisconsin two row barley that balances seamlessly with our special European hops. Naturally sweet Clover Honey was added in the kettle accenting warm flavor notes on your tongue.

Whether you reminisce the passing summer sun or thrill to squeaky steps through drifting snow one thing is certain about winter in Wisconsin - this too shall pass.

This lager called a honey bock by the brewer provides a thick pillowy snow white head that clings to the clean pint glass eventually breaking down to a constant film. Completely clear and light golden.

Aromas of pilsener malt with just a hint of spicy European hops. Smells a lot like a typical American adjunct lager.

Taste is clean barley malt with a slight honey sweet finish. A little hop and carbonation tingle in this brew that has an overall soft mouthfeel. A vapory alcohol aroma, taste and finish is also detected.

Overall a simple beer that would fare better with a little more character (more spice, more malt taste or body) to carry the higher alcohol content. I like the kiss of sweetness and taste from the honey.

From a bottle:
Nice bit of smoke upon opening the cap. When I pour it into the glass. it's a clear golden pour. There's tons of carbonation bubbles that are rising in the glass. The carbonation near the head almost makes the beer look murky. The head that forms is 2 finger and white. The retention is decent, and there's a bit of lacing on the glass. The head looks somewhat fluffy.
The nose is malty, and I get a faint hint of honey that provides a sweetness to the aroma.
The flavor is dominated by the malts, as I expected. Lots of grain flavor in this beer along with a bread/wafer flavor. There is a bit of sweetness that hits in this beer more toward the back.
The carbonation in this beer hits my throat with a slight tickle from it. Smooth and full body.
Easy drinking and delicious beer.

Two fingers of clean white foam, even surface of nice retention, lightly streaked lacing. Golden colored, veritable maelstrom of bubbles fill the glass, good clarity if you can see through the bubbles. The honey sweetens the nose sufficiently to play up biscuit and scone notes, fruity as well with peach, apricot, apple scents, topped off by a gentle spiciness. Medium-bodied, creamy and soft, all that carbonation greatly assists the fluffiness. The honey sweet but not too sweet. Grains also sweet, not finding any real crisp dryness. Long, soft finish that eventually cleans up.

12 oz. bottle, no date. A new one to me from New Glarus, acquired as part of their variety twelve pack. "Honey Lager" per the label, listed here as a maibock.

Poured to a Central Waters snifter.
A: Pours a golden honeyed orange, almost IPA-like in color. Strong finger of frothy white suds, good froth, good lacing. Appears adequately carb'd.
S: Bready & malty, with apparent wildflower honey sweetness. Honey aroma is sweet, on top of an otherwise dry, earthy, grassy smelling beer.
T: Taste follows - grainy, wheaty, super malty, with a touch of honeyed sweetness on the end. Lightly toasty & nutty, but otherwise fairly bland & traditional tasting.
F: Smooth, crisp, clean. Medium-bodied; fairly easy-drinking stuff.

A - Light orange body, clear and clean, short head fades to a thin cap, with thin lines of tiny bubble lacing.

S - A bit of floral hop, honey notes, and a bit of sharp funky fruitiness.

T - The honey comes forward, bright and clean, and a delicious acidic finish.

M - Prickly carbonation, light body, and clean, soft close.

O - A solid drinker, tasty, clean and satisfying. Given the ABV, the trick here is how easy this one is to tip back. Solid.

Im a New G. fan. This one is pleasant enough ,but nothing special. Very mild. Seems a curious offering for winter. Honey does surface towards finish and the flavor is bock-light. Might be a nice transition brew like Spotted Cow for timid bud light drinkers, or your mother. Sorry. Another Fat Squirrel bartender, if you please.

Appearance: Pours a clear, rich golden color with a strong white head. SRM of 10. (4.00)

Aroma: Milder aromas of amber malts, bread, some honey. (3.75)

Flavor: Moderate flavors of bread, light amber malt, some smooth honey. Leans malty. (3.50)

Feel: Medium-bodied, average carbonation. smooth and soft. (3.50)

Compared to Lakefront Riverwest Stein 2/2023: Pours lighter, stronger head. Milder aromas. More smooth honey and sweet malt. Less toasted and amber malt. Sweeter. Winner: Lakefront.

Compared to Surly Oktoberfest 2/2023: Pours similar, milder aromas. More smooth honey and sweet malt. Less toasted and floral notes. Sweeter. Winner: Surly

Overall: This one was okay. A Maibock is a bit of a stretch. Pretty simple, not abounding in flavor. Smooth honey sweetness. Otherwise pretty mild. A Maibock label is a bit of a stretch. Drinks like a sweet and heavy Helles, but there's just not much here other than sweetness. Should probably leave honey out of beers in my opinion. (Rating: 3.59)

12oz bottle served in a Libby globe porter glass. Date stamp: F172 15:46

Appearance: Clear golden amber. Very thin ring of foam at the top. Some small islands of lacing that slid down the glass and didn't last for very long. Nice color.

Smell: A bit of floral and honey notes, with some underlying clean lager and malt.

Taste: Light honey flavor mixed in with cracker-like malt, with a little bit of noble hop character at the finish, but there is also some graininess / cooked cereal at the finish as well.

Mouthfeel: Prickly carbonation, dry finish, some lingering spiciness on the tongue.

Overall / Drinkability: Easily drinkable, but pretty mild and not something which is really getting my attention. Okay, but not great vs. the rest of the lineup I've had from this brewery. The honey is quite muted and you would think it would show out more, but it really doesn't for me. Oh well, worth a try, but one is enough.
