You hold a session beer with a bright bold blend of five hops that flirt obligingly with the smooth malty backside. Don't let this one lay around it is brewed to be enjoyed today. Bold and engaging without pretense, because in Wisconsin you do not have to be extreme to be real.

Bottle - no date, but "1627 - 17:27" stamped on the shoulder, "10915A21837" on the bottom. Pokal glass.

Appearance: Pours a surprisingly pale, clear copper with roiling carbonation. One finger thick, frothy, off-white head. There was some sediment, and I gave it a swirl to pour it into the glass, but much of it remains stuck at the bottom of the bottle. Excellent retention, moderate lacing. Seriously, retains 1/8 inch head the whole way down.

Aroma: Very nice, pungent citrusy-ness, bursting with grapefruit flesh and lemon peel, and a clean toasty maltiness. This is right there with Sierra Nevada on the nose. Some grassy/resiny notes in the background as it warms. I had Burning River yesterday, and this is a comedy of contrasts.

Taste: Very light citrusy/tart arrival, lightly malty, turns a little bit bitter on the mid-palate; very light touch on the crisp, crackery malt, turning exceptionally clean at the finish. As it warms, resiny character becomes more pronounced on the finish; I am enjoying it more. Starting to remind me of a milder Columbus Pale Ale.

Mouthfeel: Very light, not much of the ale-y body one associates with pale ales. Higher carbonation, bordering on a little carbonic "bite." Wet and lager-like. Smooth. Not astringent.

Overall: This seems almost like a mild IPA, or a session IPA. Very bold aroma, very light mouthfeel and taste. If I lived in WI, this would be a regular buy; it is extremely refreshing and sessionable. Incredibly easy to drink. A great summertime pale ale, but I look for something heftier and maltier when I want a pale in the spring and fall seasons. (1,624 characters)

S: peach, dried mango
T: fruity hop taste, moderate bitterness

This is one of the better lower abv pale ales I have had. It is super refreshing and really well balanced. I like how this beer is so clean and approachable. More moon man please. (345 characters)

Look-Color is a very clear amber, pours two fingers of white, frothy foam comprised of very large bubbles, lots of carbonation visible in the beer.
Smell-Oranges, lemon peel, and pineapple on the nose, touch of malt sweetness in there too.
Taste-ike the small, very bright and fruity, tropical notes of pineapple and a touch of mango, combined with citrusy oranges and some lemon zest.
Feel-Light but not watery, nicely carbonated, finishes slightly dry.
Overall-Excellent Pale ale, would purchase regularly if i had access to ut in my area. (541 characters)

Brilliant APA. Great citrus on the tremendous aroma. Tastes great with grapefruit bitterness up front and some mild sweetness to follow. Finishes clean, but not dry.
This is just as good as SNPA. A definite favorite when in Wisconsin. (237 characters)

A - Mostly clear, slightly hazy, golden copper in color with fast rising carbonation. Frothy white head that is slow to dissipate. 4/5

S - Grapefruit and citrus. Herbal hops. Caramel sweetness. Biscuit. 4/5

T - Light grapefruit and citrus up front transitioning to a caramel sweetness and a white bread/biscuit note. Herbal hops on the back end. Very clean tasting finish. 4.25/5

M - Nice carbonation tickle when it first hits the tongue. Dries considerably quickly afterwards. No lingering feel or taste. 4.25/5

O - Excellent session pale ale offering. Generally hard to get this type of complexity with a lower ABV ale but New Glarus nails this one. 4.25/5 (676 characters)

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass

A- pours a clear and bright golden color with a small creamy white head that retains long after the pour, eventually settling to a thin creamy film floating on top

S- piney & citrus hop-forward with aromas of grapefruit, tangerine & a touch of floral. Slightly sweet underlying malt, but mostlyhop forward

T- lots of citrus hops up front with an emphasis on grapefruit and orange peel, floral notes kick in with hints of pine. Underlying mild biscuit malt balances it out before finishing with more citrus

M- medium body with medium biting carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a crisp finish

O- Very good hop-forward pale ale that remains very drinkable throughout (717 characters)

What a refreshingly different pale ale. Light bodied, I get notes of citrus, pineapple, and oddly vanilla. It is utterly refreshing and interesting, and really fits its moniker of being a 'no coast pale ale' as it fits into neither the east or west coast models. (262 characters)

New Glarus Moon Man has a thin-to-medium white head, a small amount of lacing, and a fairly hazy, slightly bubbly, golden appearance. The aroma is of somewhat piney and somewhat citrusy hop resin with background white bread. Taste is of the same elements, with noticeable bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and soft, and New Glarus Moon Man finishes crisp, refreshing, and easy drinking.

Nice hoppy beer that is only slightly bitter. I can see why some call it a session pale ale. Nice grapefruit smell/taste. Clean and refreshing throughout. My personal favorite from New Glarus. (192 characters)

S-Citrus, mild floral, some earthy notes.

T-Starts with a nice citrus, mild earthy notes and a tad bit of malt.

M-Lighter and crisp.

O-A very good APA, especially in the sense that is can be hoppy without being a full blown IPA. (286 characters)

12 oz bottle poured into shaker pint. Golden body with a tall white head that leaves streaky lacing and hangs on stubbornly. Aroma is cracker malt, some grain, grapefruit zest, citrus juice, and grass. Taste is hop-forward bitterness featuring citrus zest, herbal bite, and grassy. A brief visit of grain on the swallow. Medium-light body, creamy texture, just less than average carbonation, dry hoppy finish. (409 characters)

12 Fl Oz Bottle
Bottled on November 5th, 2014
Reviewed on January 19th, 2015
Served in a pint glass

Eyes
Slightly hazy golden body. Good sized foamy white head collapsed and left a decent amount of soapy lacing throughout.

Nose
Grapefruit up front. Floral notes also lived in the hops. Not much from the malts besides subtle notes of nutty grains.

Mouth
Citric hops hit the tongue first. Grapefruit blended with herbal flavours to create a vibrant, yet contained hop flavour. A mild biscuity malt backbone served as a great platform for the hops to be showcased on. Light body, leaning toward the medium side. Moderate/high carbonation.

Overall
Excellent pale ale. Plenty of flavour. Would be perfect on a warm day! (719 characters)

Tremendous nose on this one, big, bright tropical hops and lightly toasted malt. Truly fantastic. Malt base comes off perhaps a touch thin/light, and that's really my only qualm with this beer, which is also crystal clear, offers sheets of gorgeous lacing, and is basically a dream to behold. (292 characters)

A: pours a slight off clear golden body, 2 finger white foam head that fades, some lacing
S: tropical fruits, pine, malt, white pepper, citrus, orange rind,
M: medium light, some carbonation
T: orange, citrus, some grapefruit, slight pine resin, biscuit, light malt, some lemon zest, crisp
O: great brew from New Glarus! Excellent session pale ale, easy drinking and a solid crisp flavor. So far my favorite from them. (484 characters)

Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Clear and bright look with hefty head that stuck around. Nondescript smell belies an excellent hop taste underneath. Very crisp feel that could use a touch more malt backbone, but an excellent representation of the style in the vein of ZD. (267 characters)

Moon Man by New Glarus is a great, flavorable, easy drinking pale ale with just the right amount of hops, but not too hoppy! If you are the type of person who likes a little more flavor and feel to your beer, but maybe don't care much for strong IPA's, give this NCPA (No Coast Pale Ale) a try, I think you will be pleasantly suprised! Another great beer from the best midwestern brewery in America, New Glarus. Just remember you can only buy New Glarus beers in Wisconsin, so stock up when your there (as I do) or have a friend grab some for you whebn passing through! (572 characters)

Nose: spice, grain, clean malt, graham cracker. Pours brilliant gold under a 1” white foam cap, Palate: big malt and graham cracker with fruit in the background, spice and a dose of caramel, finishing with a medium hop emphasis. Medium boy and carbonation. Very drinkable. (274 characters)

The beer pours a copper amber color wth pretty decent head retention and nice lacing. The nose is pretty attractive as well, as I get light tropical fruit and a decent amount of orange citrus as well. The flavor profile replicates the nose in this fairly dry, lightly bitter APA. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, and the finish is clean, crisp, lightly bitter and refreshing. Alcohol is no more than an after thought.

While nothing earth shattering, this is a pleasant, enjoyable, and eminently drinkable pale ale. Probably wouldn't take this over a SNPA, given a choice, but nonetheless, this is a tasty APA. (621 characters)

I consider Moon Man to be the benchmark of other Pale Ales. I have had on tap at the brewery and in the bottle -- always delicious! The citrus hops in this beer really shine. It has the perfect balance that keeps me going back for more. (239 characters)
