You hold a session beer with a bright bold blend of five hops that flirt obligingly with the smooth malty backside. Don't let this one lay around it is brewed to be enjoyed today. Bold and engaging without pretense, because in Wisconsin you do not have to be extreme to be real.

Received in a trade via BarrytheBear. Poured from bottle into a standard pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a slightly dark golden with two fingers of frothy head that quickly settles.

Smell: Grassy hops with a slight sting on the nose, sweet malt backbone. Very clean and crisp smell on this.

Taste: Mild hoppiness, grassy and bready malt. Strong lemon flavor as it warms up a little.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and clean.

Drinkability: Very easy drinker. If this was regularly available, I'd definitely buy a lot of this.

Pours a nice, soft head that is resiny and fizzes loudly. Amazing aroma; soft pine and a touch of grapefruit. Lustrous golden-straw color. Starts off with a grapefruit bitterness and a little tartness, builds into a very pronounced grapefruit hop flavor, then the malt starts to come through into the end, but with the hop bitter lingering further. A very well balanced finish.

Pouring the bottom bits into it makes it a nice, hazy-straw color. Pouring the bottom bits makes a HUGE difference in the flavor (I think it's a hop residue). Flavor becomes much more assertive, and a touch more pine in nature.

Overall, this is just masterful. It's a great, hoppy bier, but it's not overwhelmingly bitter, so it doesn't wreck the palate, and it really allows the malt to still show through in a positive way.

I can't believe I can buy this is a 6-pack for $7.37 with tax. That just blows my mind. I've had bombers that cost more than a 6'er of this, and they can't even come close to this level of awesome.

I made many a special trip from Minneapolis to Hudson specifically to get this beer. Never got to try it on tap when I lived in the Midwest, but I certainly had it plenty of times bottled.

A - lovely. A deeper orange than expected from the taste, nice thick foam, not a ton of carbonation.

S - I never noticed anything particularly special about this beer's smell. I like the hop character with the sweeter notes, but it's really all about the taste with this one.

T - delightful. One of the best pale's I've ever had. It's a sweeter PA, with just a little floral bite at the end. Delicious, very quaffable.

M - still very good. The low carbonation in with the sweeter taste gives this beer an easygoing mouthfeel. I'd love it if there was slightly more alcohol, however.

O - one of my favorite beers. I wouldn't rank this among the objective best, but it's certainly got something I love about it. I'm disappointed that I won't be able to get it again for a long while, but I'll certainly pick up a few six packs the next time I swing through WI.
