Pure and crisp this is a beer with nothing to hide. Wisconsin two-row barley malt ensures a mellow and smooth body. We imported Noble Hop varieties from Germany and the Czech Republic to ensure a fine mature aroma with no coarse bitterness.

Roy's Market - New Glarus

Totally Naked is amazingly clear and amazingly golden. By clear, I mean that I could easily read a book through the body. By golden, I mean that it shines the brightest, purest straw golden out there. Big ol' large carbonation bubbles cling to the base of the glass, each releasing and rushing to the surface individually. The head is snow white, two fingers in height and leaves 97.7% coverage on the glass. She's a beauty to behold.

Bright, fresh grains are what's most prominent in this beer. The nose overall is simple and direct but to the point in a way that's both refreshing and clean. Besides the graininess present I smell grits, uncooked of course and that wraps it up for the malt profile. Way in back is a smattering of noble hop spiciness but it's faint. There's not much excitement here but it smells well made... I guess that makes sense, right?

The flavor profile is much the same. There's a corn presence that comes across as uncooked grits, or how I could imagine them tasting raw. A soft, very soft, grassy/spicy hop character pops up mid-palate but disappears before the finish with no hint remaining. The graininess isn't as pronounced in the flavor, unfortunately. Not bad, not great.

There is some snappiness with the carbonation. A slight aggressiveness that awakens the tongue, unfortunately the body leaves something to be desired. The weight is between moderate and light but there's not much body present. Drinkability is high and I could see a lot of these getting drank on a blazing hot day.

Totally Naked isn't a bad beer, pretty good as a matter of fact, especially when taking into consideration the style. It's overall clean but rather boring. Basically it's a step toward craft before even Spotted Cow. You have to crawl before you walk.

Crisp and refreshing, but the taste is fairly bland and isn't anything special. Too many hints of bread flavor for my liking. I picked up a mix-6 of New Glarus on a family trip to Wisconsin Dells, and Totally Naked was a good representation of the 6-pack - good but not great. And that isn't my Illinois bias showing, as I really wanted to like their beer.

Appearance: Pours ith a slight cap of anemic, soapy foam, which dissapates in seconds to nothing. Visable, strong carbonation. Beautiful pale color. Would have rated higher if the head retention were better.
Aroma: Clean maltiness. Smells delicious.
Taste: More pure, clean grain flavor, with a slight backbone of noble hops. Very refreshing.
Mouthfeel: Nice carbonation. Dances over the tongue in a refreshing, spritzy way.
Overall: Wow, I usually avoid this style, but I'm glad I tried this one. Ultimately, it tastes like a homebrewer brewed a better macro lager without rice solids. I like.
