In playful pursuit of butterflies a Red Fox danced across the brewery hill. His joy so pure it bubbled through our hearts and into this beer. Laughing Fox is a sparkling Kristal Weizen brewed in the Bavarian tradition with 50% Wisconsin wheat in our open top fermenters. Tickle your nose notes of spicy clove and cinnamon abound. Dan’s inspired Weizen interpretation reflects the deep bittersweet color of our Fox’s red coat.
Expect this beer to pour a lively effervescent glass thick with creamy foam and bursting with luscious fruity notes on your pallet. This is easy drinking beer perfect for a friendly Wisconsin evening. Relax, this is God’s Country, here we have the strength to reach for the stars and change the world.
PAIRING:
Foods: Pork Roast, Bratwurst
Cheeses: Gruyere, Aged Cheddar
Dessert: Carrot Cake

Very tasty wheat beer from the good folks north of the Cheddar Curtain. (I'm a FIB...what can I say?).
Appearance: Dark bronze color. Clear. Good, white head that lingered to about an inch throughout the sampling.
Smell: Doughy, bread-y, grassy, clove. Clearly, a wheat beer.
Taste: Herbal, zesty, refreshing. And is there a trace of smoke in this bad-boy? I'm thinking yes.
Mouthfeel: Clean, balanced. Dry-ish finish.
Overall: Dan and Deb give a nice twist on a classic Bavarian-style "kristall" wheat beer. Big props for the darker-than-usual color, and although it has all the required components of a classic German wheat beer, I don't think I'm lying when I say that there is some (at least a hint) of smoke/rauch in this too. Very good indeed!

12 oz bottle split with my wife. I've been waiting years to try this beer and it did not disappoint. Classic and abundant hefeweizen flavors of bubblegum, banana, and spice. Smooth mouthfeel. Delicious.

12oz undated bottle poured into a pint glass shows a gorgeous dark amber color and floats a tall, fluffy, off-white head of mixed bubbles and leaves sheets of artistic lacing with legs.
Aroma is a subtle mix of banana and caramel and the flavors match. A hint of clove an cinnamon implies a yeast influence. The banana is almost candy like, think runts, however it does not detract from my appreciation.
Mouthfeel is lighter and finishes clean.
Overall a fun ale.

This is a 12oz. bottle poured into a 20oz. weizen glass. This is a deep amber color, clear, with a high carbonation. The foam, three fingers, is a slightly off white that very slowly fade leaving very little lacing. This is a very pretty pour!
The aroma is light banana and mild caramel malt note.
The taste follows the nose, just what I expect, banana, sweet caramel, with a slightly dry finish. This beer is very low on the bitterness scale.
The feel is creamy, just what I expect from New Glarus.
This is a good beer and the low alcohol level lets me sample a few extra!

As a Big Fan of New Glarus (I've rated 45% more beers from from them than my #2 brewery), I am glad to review Laughing Fox; having missed it in the two (or three) previous releases. (Today's label also is improved from the photo.) And at this moment and month, I am in the midst of my Advent Calendar of 24 purchased at Costco and given to me. This box is a festival of small crafters, many family-started brewers in small German towns.
All this makes me particularly glad to have Laughing Fox to compare how one of the best American crafters in the German tradition interprets and innovates from the Bavarian brewer-lode.
Laughing Fox Looks like it will be good; consider it an amber-red like a marine, but I got a very inviting foam. Smells are more modest and subdued than the unfiltered hefe, a nice change. Taste balances rich malts and just enough hops. Enough bubbles to cleanse the palate for cheese and yet soft. This can sit in my mouth all afternoon. Paired well with cheddar.
Another Bravo for New Glarus.

12oz bottle. Stamped on the bottle is 'C020 12:59'.
Clear, amber brown colored body. Two fingers of off white head, which settles back to a thick cap. Leaves behind a string of lacing on the drinking side of the glass.
Aroma of toasted malts, sweeter fruit, and spicy clove, cinnamon and banana.
Taste is malty, with banana, clove, and cinnamon. Fruity hops add in.
Slightly thicker than medium mouth feel. Excellent carbonation.
Very clean and refreshing wheat beer.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pours deep red orange with a fluffy white head. Smells of sweet wheat, slight fruitiness, banana sticking out. Tastes of sweet grain with slight spiciness, and very slight fruitiness. Beer is light bodied and very easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

Dark pour for a hefe, rich head light lacing. A solid aroma of wheat and background notes of banana and stone fruits. Good carbonation and mouthfeel. NG has taken a seldom-brewed style and made something of it. Seek it out — it may not last long.
