The beer pours a deep copper-golden color with big head of off-white head that clings to the glass. Darker then expected, but intriguing none the less. Malty sweetness comes out strong but settles as other aromas including wheat, spice, banana, clove, and a touch of cinnamon join the party. The pallet experiences many of the typical hefeweizen flavors of banana, wheat, clove, and lemon zest while new flavors of cinnamon and biscuity malt dance underneath. Spot on mouthfeel for the style; medium bodied and highly carbonated. Another New Glarus brew, another rave review - not just a coincidence.

Poured from the bottle into a wheat ale glass.

A real unexpected pour. Sure it's a 12oz bottle, not one of dem slender German thingers right, lets .. just... center punch this... KAPOW! BLAM! Giant carbonation! Woah ho! We ain't foolin here, let's then give this it's due respect! A slow decant brings a big off white with hints of red head, deep and large. A clear amber red body, not unlike a yellow classic Kristal, but matching lively carbonation. Some of the smells that rip right off the pour hint something special is going on. I like where this is going.

Bouquet is large and truly unique. Ripping dry malts and faint caramel, but light sweetness and clove spices. Hints at Hefe like yeast with other nose profiles that are totally non German to style. Apple. Fruity. I am REALLY liking where this is going!

Palate hits with classic refreshing hefe quality. Chewy palate mixes with a real nice fruit sweetness, and even a hint of fruit sour. What an interesting combination, apple, clove and nutmeg, but also some chewy classic and somewhat wet palate. Finish has just a hint of ripping grain, mixing with that sweet sticky malt and hefeweizen sensing finish. Controlled. Not a bubblegum blast either. Spicy and airy, refreshing but not too sweet either.

Overall I am real impressed with this one unique brew, and a great play on a classic old school German style that is American crafty. I'd drink this often in the summer if I could.

Pours a nice copper color with just a hint of red. The tan head does tend to dissipate fairly quickly.

Smell has citrus, banana, and clove notes in it, and a hint of yeast.

Starts out a bit fruity, then banana and clove kick in. The banana tends to dominate a bit, the clove is more hinted at.

Decent feel, pretty typical for the style.

A nice easy to drink beer. Really goes down easy, and has the taste I expect from this style. Wheat beers are one of my favorites, and this is a nice example of the style.

fine representation of a hefe style beer. aroma and taste remind me of banana bread with cinnamon streusel topping. great malt profile, and taste is off the charts in the fresh grain and malt category. i cant see how they could improve on this one very much. i would definitely buy it again.

12oz bottle.

Pours a crystal clear golden amber with a huge fluffy white head that recedes fairly quickly to a small foamy cap.

Aroma is light banana sweetness, lemon zest and hints of different spices such as clove and cinnamon.

Taste is more of the mild sweetness, definitely the bananas, almost like a dialed-down hefe in the taste. Light clove and some biscuity malts.

Mouthfeel is really creamy for the style, smooth and highly carbonated.

I don't have much experience with the style but this has to be one of the best representations out there. It's definitely the best I've had.

12 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure acquired as part of a trade with the gracious crewfan16. Thanks, buddy. My first New Glarus beer ever. Expectations are high as can be given this brewery's reputation. Served into a Bell's pilsner glass in me sister's gaff in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Not paired with food.

Served straight from the refrigerator and allowed to warm a bit over the course of consumption. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours an impressive four finger soft beige, darisay light pink colour frothy head of great cream, good thickness, and good retention. Lacing is nonexistent. Body colour is a clear vibrant dark copper. Looks appealing. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.

Sm: Surprisingly evocative banana, pale malts, light subtle caramel, clean malts, and more fruity estery notes that ring indistinct. Quite pleasant; banana is dominant but seems well balanced against the other notes. Very fresh and appealing. Some yeasty notes. No alcohol is detectable.

T: Banana, pale clean malts. Subtle fruit throughout. Wow, that's perfectly balanced. A refreshing malt foundation. Full bodied yet subtle and evocative. The banana is particularly fresh and suitable for the profile. Tasty and refreshing. Surprisingly complex for the style. Cinnamon and clove when I look for them.

Mf: Near perfection for the style and flavours. Beautifully smooth and wet. Fresh, crisp, refreshing. Delicately light yet somehow ideally suited to supporting the careful balance of the flavours. Wow. It is a bit too coarse on the finish, but I'm nitpicking.

Dr: Probably the best beer I'll ever have in this style. A homerun from New Glarus, confirming the hype I've heard. Really an incredible beer. Incredibly drinkable and refreshing. I could drink this all night. Would be wonderful on draught.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass

A: Pours a clear golden-brown color with a creamy, light tan head. Light curtains of lace.

S: Light and tart fruit flavors, raspberry and red cherry, flows over top of some bready malt. Light Belgian banana and clove.

T: Belgian notes are more potent than in the aroma but not at all overpowering. Pleasant clove and banana. Belgian yeast flavor melds with sweet toffee and bread. Some fruitiness to the whole experience, but relatively subtle. Black cherry and light floral notes wind down to a mild finish with lingering yeast, dry malt and light tartness.

M: Fairly light bodied but avoids being watery. Carbonation is medium-low but very foamy when swished.

O: A great, easy drinking beer with some good fruit and Belgian notes.
