A: Pours a beautiful red-copper with a huge white head that looks creamy and lasts a good long while and leaves thick lacing across the glass. Carbonation streaming from the bottom.

S: Woah, this beer is extremely reminiscent to their retired (and my personal favorite) Crack'd Wheat. I get tons of clove and tons of cinnamon and it just smells absolutely fantastically fresh and bold and full of wheaty goodness.

T: Clove and cinnamon battle each other out as a light fruitiness parts their way. It finishes with a taste of wheat, then a very light spiciness remains on the palate. Just a tiny bit of bitterness to let you know you are drinking a beer. A lemon zest hop character is noticeable as well.

M: Light-medium, refreshing, and surprisingly, not overcarbonated. Maybe even a touch creamy; smooth as all hell.

All in all, this beer is an awesome release from New Glarus. I highly recommend picking this one up, because if there is one thing New Glarus does exceptionally well (besides their fruit beers) is their wheat beers. I just wish they would not have ceased production of Crack'd Wheat. (1,106 characters)

This one pours a deep copper with some amber hues. Really bright and clear. The head on this one is cloudy white and about two fingers tall.

Nose has lots of honey with notes of bubble gum and clove. I get a lovely sweet and spicy combination of both green and red apples. Almost cider like qualities in the nose. Very lively carbonation tickles the nostril hairs and gets the mouth salivating for the first sip.

Very fruity and spicy. Again lots of notes of apples, cinnamon and cloves with a little bubble gumminess. Fairly sweet but not overboard. Nice bready finish. Some booziness in the finish.

I don't get to try this breweries offering as often as I'd like to because they are all fantastic.

Small on alcohol, big on flavor.
Super session ale right here. (769 characters)

12oz bottle poured into a Weizen glass.

A - Crystal clear amber. A dense mountain of vanilla colored head. Thick lacing left down the glass.

S - Great banana ester persists through filtration. Has a sweet bread crust maltiness: toasty munich/biscuit malt, a touch of cinnamon.

T - I get a quick glimpse at some toasty malt but there is a huge helping of twangy wheat immediately after. Has good banana flavor that lingers a little for a pleasant finish.

M - High carbonation dances well on my tongue. Light to moderate body. Semi-sweet.

O - Great looking beer. Smells show a good depth of complexity. Flavor is huge on wheat and hefe-like. Carbonation works well and has perfect feel. Another great beer by New Glarus. (724 characters)

I was fortunate enough to receive two bottles of this beer in two separate trades that landed on the same day. Since I shared my goods, I can't say with any certainty whose bottle I drank, so thanks to both htomsirveaux and duffcalifornia for these. Enjoyed from a Duvel tulip. Reviewed from notes.

The pour is much darker than I expected. A deep, shockingly clear garnet ruby hue. A one-finger slightly off-white head lasts for some time; the retention is really excellent. The thick, scattered lacing is really stunning.

The aroma is, at first, quite typical for the style. Ester fruits, bananas mostly, are very prevalent. Very clear bubblegum characteristics, that Belgian yeast quality is clearly defined. But there's also a malty, sweet, caramel-like aroma that works surprisingly well with that wheaty, fruity combination. A very enjoyable interplay of different smelling qualities.

Those Belgian yeast flavors, mostly ester fruits, are very evident in the taste. There's a slight peppery spice that adds a little zing to the mix. Some citrus fruits are present, maybe a touch of lemon in there. As the smell indicated, there is some malty caramel sweetness. I'm also getting a bread-like, pilsner malt flavor from this.

A very easy beer to drink, with medium carbonation and body. I enjoyed sipping and savoring this, but could certainly see this being a staple session-type beer.

I'm not very experienced with the style, but I really enjoyed this. A pretty delicious German-style beer from a brewery I love,I'd certainly stock up on this if I could. (1,565 characters)

Pours light brown with a one finger off white head that dissipates quickly leaving a white ring around the glass

Nose has bright malt and wheat notes. Bananas Clove and spice phenols and some plum like dark fruits as well.

Malt is more subtle in the taste but alot of the fruit esters are noticeable. Relatively light conpared to the smell.

High carbonation works well with the light refreshing feel. The carbonation Also gives it a soft feel which helps it from being to watery.

Really refreshing and drinkable, perfect pair for this sticky muggy summer night. (566 characters)

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tall New Glarus Signature Pilsner Glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep copper amber orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Big four finger off white head which slowly recedes into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a lot of lacing around the glass.

Smell: A very yeasty, spicy, and fruity aroma. Wheat grains and bready malts with a mix of spices including clove, cinnamon, and a little coriander. Bready hints of hay, grains, biscuit, and crackers. Nice mix of fruity esters with some bananas, lemon, apple, orange, and some bubblegum. Subtle hints of earthy hops in the background. A pretty good mix of wheat, spices, and fruit.

Taste: Like the smell hints, a solid mix of wheat, spices, and fruity esters. Bready wheat and malts with tasting notes of cereal grains, biscuit, hay, crackers, and yeast. Nice mix of spices with some clove, cinnamon, and a tad of coriander like spice. Complex mix of fruit undertones with some notes of bananas, apple, lemon, orange, and bubblegum. Mild earthy hop presence that provides a little bitterness towards the finish. A solid mix of flavors. Well balanced.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Nicely creamy, spicy, smooth, and fairly drying.

Overall: A very solid take on the style. A good mix of wheat, spice, and fruity esters. (1,330 characters)

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass

A: Pours a clear golden-brown color with a creamy, light tan head. Light curtains of lace.

S: Light and tart fruit flavors, raspberry and red cherry, flows over top of some bready malt. Light Belgian banana and clove.

T: Belgian notes are more potent than in the aroma but not at all overpowering. Pleasant clove and banana. Belgian yeast flavor melds with sweet toffee and bread. Some fruitiness to the whole experience, but relatively subtle. Black cherry and light floral notes wind down to a mild finish with lingering yeast, dry malt and light tartness.

M: Fairly light bodied but avoids being watery. Carbonation is medium-low but very foamy when swished.

O: A great, easy drinking beer with some good fruit and Belgian notes. (781 characters)

Appearance - Copper. Clear. Medium tall foamy off-white head. Good retention.

Smell - Moderate wheat. Strong banana character, somewhat milder clove. Not picking up the purported cinnamon.

Taste - Dryer than I expected. Mostly wheat/grain flavor. Banana and clove are more subdued in the taste than the aroma. A little citrus in the finish. Light, but bready with fruit and spice accents - a very nice example of the style, in my opinion.

Mouthfeel - Light.

Overall - Light and refreshing with a nice, non-insipid flavor. (525 characters)

12oz bottle into pint glass.

Pours a crystal clear light amber color, with a one finger almost white head with big bubbles that dissipates quickly.

Nose gives of banana and clove phenols, leaning towards dense, almost meaty banana bread with bready malt sweetness very present. Exceptional smells that I couldn't get enough of.

First taste is quite sour, with a well-rounded banana bread body. Little to no hop presence, with bitterness playing a small role in the overall makeup of this beer.

Moderate to high carbonation with small, biting bubbles that take a bit to develop in thy mouth.

A very interesting, well-rounded beer. Have not had many examples of this style but by acting as a unique and well-balanced beer, this beer seems to paint a picture of the style should be. (784 characters)

12oz brown bottle with no freshness date.

LOOK: Clear amber, fine bubbles, great lacing

SMELL: Malty, bread, ripe pears, clove, vague spice, banana peels, white chocolate

TASTE: Crisp, medium body, full malt jacket, loaf of bread, clove, banana taffy, lemon, fresh grain, grassy

An all around great beer, New Glarus wielding local wheat with this one. They just raised and alterer the bar for the Kristalweizen style. (421 characters)

A million thanks as always to klikger for beautiful beer to drink. Cheers!

What a beer to enjoy on a mild sunday evening. A nice creamy head delivers in a medium-bodied and well carbonated avalanche of tamed wheat, clove, cinnamon, banana, corn and a tad of aged cheddar cheese. Really cant get enough of these great new glarus brews. This brewery is really showing that it can be calculated, balanced and masterful in its measurements in addition to creative, artistic and extreme. Absolutely recommend this! (510 characters)

Pours a clear, dark copper in color with a thick light khaki-colored head, that eventually settles down. The aroma consists of bananas, with light chocolate or cocoa, clove, and spicy yeast. The mouthfeel is full-bodied. It has a softness to it with a tingling carbonation. Although, if you push the beer around your mouth, it still maintains a light airiness to it.

Flavors of wheat malt, banana & some slight chocolate, followed by a dusting of cinnamon. The satisfying flavor of the wheat malt really emerges in the middle. Cloves linger in the finish.

When I think of Fall, wheat beers like kristalweizens don’t tend to come to mind, but the combination of 50% Wisconsin red wheat seems to work here and gives this beer a little heartier feel in both taste, and certainly appearance to match the cooler weather. Impressive Autumn release! (846 characters)

Beautiful creamy head, great retention. good carbonation.
Smells of malts, fresh bread, clove big on bananas, plums, almost a vanilla-white chocolate note, cider spiced doughnuts, apples, pears, pepper, heat, a cinnamon like note, nutmeg, really nice well balanced.
flavors to suit..lemon, banana, pear, apple, malt musty grains, peppers, yeast, cider.Really well balanced and absolutely delicious.
Great balance of carbonation, malty body and yeast spice to create a fantastic mouthfeel.
Not your typical kristalweizen, but immensely enjoyable and another great offering from what is rapidly becoming one of my favorite breweries. (702 characters)

This beer poured out much darker than I expected. The color of this beer was a nice looking amber color with a fluffy white head on top. The retention is moderate and not much lacing at all. The smell of the beer is much like a traditional Weizen brew, there is an additional caramel sweetness in there too. The taste has the typical banana and clove upfront with a very nice sweet malt finish. Very nice flavor on this beer. The mouthfeel is smooth, decent carbonation, light bodied, drinkable. Overall I was impressed with this beer. I didn't think I'd like it as much as I did. (580 characters)

12oz bottle: This one pours a crystal clear amber color. There was a good sized light beige head on it. It didn’t linger long, but did leave some lacing. It has an interesting nose. There is a slight sourness to it. Get some apples in there, along with some faint banana. Faint hints of clove and cinnamon. Also a touch of wheat. The taste is very good. A hint of sourness to it. Wheat, some of the clove and cinnamon, faint apple and banana. An excellent beer! (463 characters)

Served chilled in a Weizen glass

A - pours a clear copper, large head with lots of staying power. Darker than I expected for a kristalweizen, but Dan says on the bottle, this is "his take" on the style, so I'll trust him.

S - spicy, clove, banana, a bit more subtle than its cousin Dancing Man, but definitely present and pleasant.

T - again, lots of spicy clove and banana, not too sweet, a good balance

M - good amount of carbonation, thicker than I expected, yet very clean. No hint of alcohol.

O - I really liked this offering from NG, definitely not just a filtered version of Dancing Man, a unique beer of its own and one I could definitely throw back a few of. (673 characters)

Poured from bottle into pint glass.
Aroma is heavy on banana, clove, some vanilla Similar to their Dancing Man Wheat.
Appearance is outstanding. Pour amber orange, and a frothy tan foam so thick was similar to a root beer float.
Taste has a medium sweetness and lightly sour.
Palate is light in body, slick and fizzy on the tongue.
Fun, different than average fall/winter beer. (377 characters)

Pours a beautiful golden amber color with a thick brown head into my glass. A hell of a head too! Takes forever to recede.

Aromatic with citrus, clove and wheat in the nose. Wow, certainly smells very tasty.

Spicy with clove, light citrus and possibly coriander (?) in the taste.

Body fades out a bit in the middle but otherwise, flavors hold steady for a sweet, dry finish.

I can't say that I've had many examples of this style but I certainly can say that I enjoy this example! (484 characters)

I enjoyed this beer from the comfort of my own living room. From the 12oz bottle to my Schlafly weizen glass.

Appearance: Pours amber/reddish color with a fluffy, soapy, dirty white head that dissipated quickly.

Smell: flowery, cloves, banana bread and slightly spicy.

Taste: Very sweet, bread-like malts and wheat and banana cloves come through as well.

Mouthfeel: Medium/light bodied, smooth with nice carbonation and a dry finish.

Drinkability: Very drinkable and will recommend. I’m enjoying the 6-pack I picked up even though this is octoberfest season. (566 characters)

My first of this style. Got from a trade. Pours a deep orange red with large creamy head that has just a hint of orange color to it. Aroma is strong pears, wheat, funky yeast, banana, more sweet pears. Very nice. Light mouthfeel, medium carbonation. Tastes like biting into a fresh pear. Hints of cinnamon that do not overpower, but supplement the beer very nicely. Not overly sweet at all and is quite refreshing. Nicely balanced brew that one could drink all night. This is really fantastic. (493 characters)

poured from a bottle into a tucher glass in the classic hefeweizen pour. beer has been out less than a month, so even without a dated bottle, i know its pretty fresh.

a- pours a clear amber color with a huge billowing thick white head. like a clear heffeweizen basically right in the style.

s- huge amounts of the classic hefeweizen style smells, banana, clove, bubble gum and other sugar sweetness. it smells so delicious honestly

t- taste is true to the nose. more banana, clove and wheat sweetness. must more complex than I had anticipated and I am pleasantly surprised.

m- feel is quite carbonated, but still manages to stay creamy. flavors dont linger too long.

i might not be the most well versed in this style, but I have had enough hefeweizen to know that this guy is delicious. once again new glarus has shown that they are the US king of classic german styles. (875 characters)
