Bright golden colored with a thin layer of clean white foam on top.

Awesome nose. Lots of fruit, banana, sweet yeasty esters, white pepper.

Sweet, spicy, fruity. Very complex flavor. Usually not a big saison fan, but this is really nice. Not real funky and has enough honey sweetness to compliment the spice and fruit. Peppery and hop spice builds on the backside.

Medium feel with a higher amount of carbonation and a dry finish.

I really like this beer. Excellent all around, especially considering I don't enjoy most saisons. Well done indeed.

12 oz bottle poured into a Bruery tulip.
6.5% ABV, 1732 on neck.

A - Pouring mostly clear, this bright golden beer is capped by a dense and creamy white head that refuses to deflate. Thin, wispy lace clings to the glass as it slowly fades out.

S - New Glarus' Thumbprint Saison has an aroma quite similar to the classics; perfumy spice and white pepper from the yeast with a lemongrass zest and spicy hop note. Soft wheat barely makes it through with the pale malt, buried under the awesome plethora of yeast esters.

T - Zesty and bright with lemongrass citrus and nice spiciness from the yeast, the beers flavor is the perfect segue from summer to fall with white pepper and herbal hoppiness along the finish. Minor sweet notes pull through from the malt, but like the aroma, they're hidden.

M - Bright carbonation dances on the tongue with a sprite-like feel, citrus dryness included. Light and easy drinking, this terrific saison finishes out with a thin lingering flavor for a subtle "have some more" gesture.

O - New Glarus' Thumbprint Saison closely parallels Belgium's classics with it's open, perfumy aroma and delicious spicy flavor with a crisp, carbonated feel. An excellent beer all around, New Glarus continues to display their knowledge of varied styles and brewing prowess.

Poured this one into an oversized wine glass. The body is cloudy gold with medium white head that seems to go away pretty quickly. Not much lacing.

Nose is bready with apple and apricot.

Taste is overloaded with lemon peel(definitely on the citrus peel side). Hints of yeast and some nice pear blended in. It is to the point where the finish is kind of sour or bitter. This is a different twist to the Saison style, but it seems to hold true.

Mouth feel is very carbonated. Not real strong alcohol presence. This is a pretty good beer, but I have other favorites in the category.

Bottle to tulip.

A - Hazy pale straw yellow. Half a finger of light bubbly off-white head with good retention.

S - Bready malts, Belgian yeast, spice, pepper and a very mild citrus presence.

T - A big Belgian yeast and peppery presence up front. The mid-palate adds bready malts, clove and spice. The finish is dry and peppery. Only the slightest malt sweetness comes through as the pepper and spice dominate.

M - Light to medium body with a decent chew. Moderate carbonation.

Bottle poured into a New Glarus pilsner glass.

Pours a clear straw with a strong column of bubbles up the center. Smallish head falls to a covering but no lacing.

The aroma has spicy yeast and lemony notes.

Taste has a crisp peppery yeast flavor then slightly bitter and strong lemon (maybe the grains of paradise?) and subtle pear. Some sourness on the finish. Cracker and mild biscuit.

Crisp and dry. Refreshing and unique, effervescent with a light body.

Bottle poured into a tulip glass. Beer pours a hazy golden color with three fingers of soapy off white head. Head dissipates after a minute to a half a finger or so, no lacing. Plenty of carbonation streaming up from the bottom of the glass.

Nose is typical of a saison, floral and lemon hops, clove, coriander, fruity esters, biscuit malts.

Taking a sip, follows the nose. A touch of lemon and floral, then clove, banana and bubblegum esters and biscuit malt sweetness. A fairly dry finish with lingering banana and spice.

Light to medium body and highly carbonated, sharp pricks on the tongue before it subsides to a creamier finish.

Appearance - Medium gold with a hint of red. Cloudy. Moderate foamy white head. Persistent.

Smell - Aroma is mainly fruity. Banana, orange and clove.

Taste - Malt is light but not particularly sweet. Sour fruit, particularly banana and sour orange, spiciness, particularly clove, a lemony finish. A hint of alcohol. Sour but flavorful.

Mouthfeel - Light-Medium. Well carbonated.

Overall - A good measure of sour fruit flavor, but still very drinkable.

Served chilled in a tulip glass.
A: Pours a golden beige color with a slight haziness and small thin white head that fades quickly.
S: Primarly banana. Slight grassiness, with an earthy lemon aroma
T: Heavy on the banana without tasting artificial. Light cloves and peppery notes. Vague honey flavor.
M: Very light and crisp; style appropriate. Nice amount of carbonation. Thin bodied with pleasant light floral and peppery dry finish.
O: Very nice flavored beer and easy to drink. If I did not know what I was drinking, I would never have guess that this is a saison. I'll gladly drink more of this and enjoy it, but I won't drink it when I'm craving a saison.

The beer was served chilled into a tulip glass.

A- The body of the beer is a slightly hazy honey coloration. The head was a thin white layer on the beer. The head resolved to a ring of foam.

S- The beers aroma has lemons, freshly cut grass, tons of banana, and cloves.

T- Lemony cloves lead the way giving off alot of bananas flavors.

M- The body is light and well carbonated.

O- Not a bad saison but not what I would reach for first if a saison was what I was craving.

Big thanks to CaptCleveland...

A: Pours a cloudy mellow gold with about two fingers of pure white head. The foam settles fairly quickly, but it leaves a solid rocky ring along the edges of the glass. Decent lacing as it drinks.

S: The nose is grain, fresh cut grass, lemons, banana, and clove. It smells excellent.

T: This beer is big on the banana. It's evident from the first sip through to the finish. Banana is the dominant flavor. I get mild flavors in the middle and a big punch of spice in the back end. I get clove, pepper, and a touch of heat in the finish. It's nice.

M: Light bodied beer. This is your typical crisp and refreshing saison, with a little extra. It's sweet to start, but move to hot and spicy in the finish. It's a bit drying on the back end.

O: I love saisons, and I love New Glarus... but I don't exactly love this beer. It's good, and I'd love to drink it again, but it's not what I want when I'm in the mood for the style. It's banana forward and really spicy in the finish.

12oz. bottle poured into a tulip.

(A)- Pours a hazy pale yellow color that produced a nice frothy head. Good retention too.

(S)- A dry lemon peel and subtle hay/funk.

(T)- Similar to the smell. A nice dry body with subtle funk overall. A touch of lemon to freshen it up.

(M)- A really nice carbonation level. A great balance of dryness, funk, and subtle hay-like lemon.

(O)- Another great classic by New Glarus. I really like my Saisons dry, and this one delivers that on all fronts. It matches the style well and just hit the spot up on my summer vacation to the northwoods.
