Notes/Commercial Description:
Severe Drought, we shared the farmer’s horror as Wisconsin’s cherry crop failed! Dan bought what cherries he could. The Apple crop fared better. Then joy! A grand Wisconsin cranberry harvest. What will Dan brew with Apples, Cranberries and Cherries? Oh my! You hold the happy accident of Wisconsin’s favorite fruit aged in oak with an almost magical wild fermentation. Serendipity is a wondrous celebration that sparkles your senses and dances across your palate. A kaleidoscope of flavor discovered by accident in a sour ale!

Cheers to the unexpected.

Bottle poured into Side Project wine glass.

Appearance is a muddy terra cotta sporting a beige one finger head that settles to thin froth. A nice sticky film of lacing is left when tilted.

The nose like most of the New Glarus fruit beers is gorgeously fruity and rich. Deep Granny Smith apple, cherry pie filling, strawberry, raspberry, fruit roll up/fruit leather, and faint lingering spice. Juicy, lively, and mouthwatering.

The taste is much like a potent mix of fresh spiced cider and cherry juice. Lots of berry flavors with cranberry and raspberry being the dominant ones. Lots of cherry and apple as well. The spice is light and of the fall variety. Reminds me of thanksgiving. Sweet, yes, plenty sweet but with a nice tartness that barely rears it's head and keeps the uber sweetness at bay a bit.

Mouthfeel is light medium. The body of the beer is reminiscent of fruit juice as is the sweetness. Carbonation is soft yet lively enough to call medium range.

Overall this among one of the sweetest beers that I've had and enjoyed more than thoroughly. The reason being that it has those fruit juice characteristics. I'm a sucker for fresh squeezed juice and this is about as close as you can get to it from something pertaining to the beer world. How New Glarus manages to hide all the malt character of the beer is beyond me. But I'm glad they succeed as I'm not a fan of fruit beers that display a malt backbone.

Served out of a waxed bottle (Courtesy of Brewzma) into a wine glass as a nice birthday present to myself.

A) Pours a nice burgundy with a small head that fades rather fast, yet leaves some lacing.

S) I get a beautifully mellow aroma of crane-apple or crane-cherry juice with a hint of cinnamon.

T) Now you really get the fruit. Nice tart cherry at first, then the apple and cranberry make themselves known. The aftertaste is where you get the ale aspect. Not boozy whatsoever, but the yeast/malts are there just enough.

M) Rather surprised (in a good way) of the tart sourness I get from this. It's by no means a sour beer, but it has a nice tang. Mild carbonation that you can really feel on the tongue.

O) This is another outstanding fruit beer by the experts at New Glarus. I've now had all but Raspberry Tart (on deck for another day) and I haven't been let down by any of them.
