Severe Drought, we shared the farmer’s horror as Wisconsin’s cherry crop failed! Dan bought what cherries he could. The Apple crop fared better. Then joy! A grand Wisconsin cranberry harvest. What will Dan brew with Apples, Cranberries and Cherries? Oh my! You hold the happy accident of Wisconsin’s favorite fruit aged in oak with an almost magical wild fermentation. Serendipity is a wondrous celebration that sparkles your senses and dances across your palate. A kaleidoscope of flavor discovered by accident in a sour ale!

Cheers to the unexpected.

Pours a dark cherry red like cough syrup. Unfortunately I wasn't a fan of this beer like most people are due to the taste and smell reminded me of dimetapp or robutussin cough syrup. The color was great and I was excited to try NG as this was my first brew by this brewery. The lingering taste of cherry cough syrup turned me off more and more with every sip. Definitely worth trying if getting into NG as it opened me up to want/try more of their beers and I finally found the one I love.

Quick notes at a little bottle share at Mikro, Hamden CT

A. Cranberry red, no head no retention 3.25
S. Sweet, apple and cran without a lot of cherry . 3.75
T. Apple cranberry. Sweet. Too sweet. 2.25
M. Good body, maybe could use more carb3
O. Too sweet. As Mike said as he shared this with me: if you put it in little cardboard boxes and stuck a straw in it, you could feed it to the little ones. Goood to cut a berliner wiesse though! 2.75

$9.99 from my local Pick 'n Save grocery store

A: brilliant rosy-red color, billowing light pink head, clear, head dissipated quickly
S: fruit and malt
T: cloying, cough syrupy sweet, pronounced fruitiness that is appealing but more on the order of a sweet soda, no funk or wildness although bottle states wild fermentation, no noticeable oak
M: rounded but cloying and too heavy from sweetness

Thanks Moll. Served in a whatever. Beer is brownish and clear with a ruby hue to it. Interesting looking, almost still, no real head, no lacing, Looks fine.

Aroma is fruity, sweet, cherries, berries, smells OK.

Tastes a little medicinal, super sweet, rough actually, NOt a very good beer, not on the same level as Belgian Red or Raspberry tart. Not a repeat.

I was just going to mark this as "had," but felt compelled to fully review after seeing all the glowing reviews below.

I was quite excited for this, which may skew my opinion. From what I was expecting, a cherry, apple, and cranberry beer that was unintentionally soured. That was the explanation I had read on BA.

I should have known this wouldn't live up to my expectations based soley on the smell. No noticeable sourness at all. Delicious fruit smells, but extremely sweet smelling.

Taste followed the smell. To me, this tasted 100% exactly like sparkling cherry juice. I mean 100%. No apple taste, no sourness, no alcohol. Just sweet carbonated juice. I had my girlfriend taste it without giving her my opinion, and the first thing she said was "This tastes like cherry juice!"

Overall, a big disappointment for me. It is still an interesting beer, but I was hoping for a sour, more complex version of Belgian Red. This ended up being my least favorite of the New Glarus 750ml fruit beers. Maybe I'll age one for a bit and see if the tartness comes through at all.

750ml bottle poured into wine glass. Thanks Josh (thebigredone) for this one.

A- Pours a translucent dark slightly brownish cherry purplish red with about a finger's worth of frothy head that has nice retention and slowly recedes to a thin layer. Decent carbonation and considerable lacing.

S- Strong notes of sweet and tart cranberries, apples, and raspberries. Nice balance of the fruits and very fragrant but a little bit too overpowering on the sweetness.

T- Very sweet mixture of cherries, apples, raspberries, and some sweet malts finishing with a light fruity tartness that lingers for awhile. Lots of flavor just way too sweet for me.

M- Smooth, nice carbonation, nice body without being overly syrupy.

O- I've come to realize that I'm personally not a big fan of the New Glarus fruit beers. They are just all overpoweringly sweet and not that enjoyable for me. This beer had a ton of flavor, it's just the sweetness makes it almost undrinkable. I probably won't be having this beer again and I'm surprised so many people like it. I'd recommend it only if you like sweet and fruity beers.

Paired well with a lunch salad. I enjoy the tartness of Serendipity, wish it was stronger.

These NG fruited drinks taste more like cider than beer. My wife and mother-in-law would love it.

Pours a murky ruby red, with an ivory foam that dies off as quickly as pop.
Smells like candy fruit, namely cherry.
Initially a cherry sweetness hits, meandering into cranberry tartness in the finish. Pretty dense body with strong carbonation. Sweet overall. Attenuation isn't a priority here. Syrupy for sure. The apple might be adding to the cranberry finish, if we're dealing with crabapples or green apple flavors. Its hard to tell. It tastes like awesome cran-cherry fruit juice, and not a whole lot else. I could see this as the best syrup in a great berlinerweisse. On its own, this is a great dessert after a hefty pot roast or thanksgiving dinner. It's not crazy complex, but you'd be hard pressed to find a better fruit beer.

Bottle generously shared by yourefragile.

Pour yields a reddish-brown colored brew with a short fizzy head that recedes somewhat quickly. The nose carries a strong bit of cherry and cranberry as well as underlying earthiness. Some tartness coming through, as well as fruit skin. Flavor is moderately tart but has far too much underlying sweetness. Body is medium and appropriate, but there's too much residual sweetness coming through. Pretty nice for a fruit beer, but pales in comparison to Belgian Red and, to a lesser degree, Raspberry Tart.

1745th Review on BA
Bottle NG Pilsner Glass

Purchased @Woodman’s, Kenosha, WI for 8.99
Thanks to KevanB for the glass

App- A crimson red with almost no head at all. Maybe a 1/2" of bubbles. Very still with a juice like appearance. No cling or lace.

Smell- Cherries, Apples and Cranberries. Exactly what the label says. Maybe intermixed with some wheat. It's a cherry beer, mixed with some other fruits. Smells awesome. Little bit of tart to it as well.

Taste- So I was actually really surprised by this one. It was really like the combination of both of the other fruit beers and then add it the apple/cranberries. It had a semi good balance of all the flavors and a little bit of oak behind it. Semi cough syrup like consistency of flavors as well.

Mouth- A light/medium body with a nice medium carbonation level to it. Tart cherry wheat aftertaste. With a bit of oak and cranberry. As mentioned in the taste, it was a bit like cough syrup.

Drink- For something so different this was a great tasting beer. A good amount of balanced fruits and then some oak behind it. Not sure belongs in Top 250. But I drove to freaking WI to get it.

Appearance: Pours a clear garnet color with a bubbly head that leaves quite a lot of dots and dashes behind

Smell: Fruit jello aromatics, with cherry and apple dominant and cranberry underneath

Taste: Very sweet and fruity, up front, with the cherry flavors progressing into tart cranberry and finishing with sweet apple; some tartness develops in the aftertaste, along with a hint of cinnamon red hots that lingers into the finish

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate to high carbonation; a touch puckery

Overall: There is a lot to like in the bold flavors of this beer, as well as the hint of tartness and red hot flavors; still, it is just so darn sweet that it truly becomes cloying and drinking more than a glass is a chore

Thanks, joshuaseresse, for the opportunity

Not sure I quite understand the glowing reivews of this beer. The beer was much more sweet than I was expecting (which was OK by me, as I'm not a huge sour fan), and it tasted very much like an unfiltered apple cider, but with a "beerish" aspect to it. Maybe there was a hint of cherries and cranberries as well, but the apple flavor really dominated.

Certainly this is not a bad beer, but it struck me as a bit simple and one dimensional, and was not a beer I could see myself wanting to buy again.

Thanks to Traci for sending this one out for me to try. The beer poured out as a vibrant red color with a fizzy white colored head on top. The head settles and doesn't leave any lacing or retention behind on the glass... The smell of the beer smell like pure fruit with a little bit of oak in there to give it more of a natural essence. The taste of the beer is like fruit punch, it's got the cherry and the apple and the cranberry all in there at different times. The flavors mix well but really give off a juice-like flavor. The oak is a little on the hidden side, I feel it could have been aged a bit longer to possibly give this one more of that wooden flavor. The mouthfeel of the beer was highly carbonated, it was sharp, tart and crisp. It's was also light bodied for having such a large amount of flavor. Overall I can't complain it's a good brew much like the Raspberry Tart and the Belgian Red from New Glarus. This one just adds a new outlook to what they're able to pull off when nature throws them a curve ball. This beer is enjoyable, it's sweet and juicy and loaded with fruity flavors. It's worth trying if that is what you're into.

Big thank you to Steasy66 for the killer brews. Going to give this guy a big uncomfortable man-hug if I ever get the chance!! ;-)

Appearance. Pours a really deep amber, getting close to brown with almost a finger of fluffy, off-white head.

Smell. Apple and cranberry juice with some tart cherries and a very very light, dry musty funk.

Taste. Fresh cranberries and cherries and bit of that distinct New Glarus dry dusty, lightly woody funk.

Mouthfeel. Lighter body with medium , fine carbonation.

Overall. A nice fruit brew, but I do enjoy the fruits in RT and WBR more. More a personal preference thing than the quality of the brew...

This was my first time trying a new glarus fruit. It was a lot less tart then other fruits/sours that I have had. Overall it was a good beer that had a lot of flavor, with a little bit of sourness at the end. Hoping the other fruits are up to far!

750ml bottle into LA teku glass. Thanks Matt!

A: Pours a clear cranberry juice color with a thick, fluffy, light tan head that took forever to fade into a bubbly collar spotty lace.
S: A super sweet bouquet of sugary red grape, pear, apple, cranberry and cherry juice. Musty and lighty tart, but mostly sweet.
T: Sweet and fruity but I get a hint of caramel and musky damp oak barrel. Light tartness in the finish, very mild sourness. Cranberry tartness, cherry sweetness, and juicy apple blend well with oak must and drying tannins. Sweet finish, apple aftertaste.
M: Cloyingly sweet and sugary with a sharp syrupy mouthfeel, soft and fluffy carb, and a thick and syrupy body. Starts to hurt the back of my throat after a while.
O: Ultra sweet to the point that it got a bit too much to drink after a while. Greats flavors though. Could be drier. Extremely rich.

750 mL bottle to a snifter.

Appearance - Bright red with a nice off white head. Settles to an offset collar.

Smell - Lots of cherry. Like its more standard brothers, it's all fruit juice in the smell. Apple and cranberry standout surprisingly well.

Taste - Follows the smell exactly. Carbonated fruit juice. The cranberry and apple dominate more. Dry in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Well it's drinkable as hell. But it's juice. Medium carbonation.

Overall - These New Glarus offerings blur the line between sodas and beer. I can't in good conscience rate it as a great beer, no matter how tasty it is.

This beer tastes an awful lot like the debut album from the B-52s to me. It's definitely fruity, but also has a nice sourness to it as well. It's an album I enjoy listening to on occasion, but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to to it very often.

All three fruits involved in this beer are immediately recognizable and full of robust flavor. I was hoping for slightly more sour, but it's a great beer nonetheless. Just not necessarily my particular style of choice.

Bottle opened on 11.22.12 Thanksgiving 2012

A - Pours a clear pinkish brown with a one inch light tan-pink head with good retention.

S - Cherry and sweet.

T - Cherry, apples and sweet. The cranberry finishes in the drink.

D - Good carbonation with a light body. Sweet, but not overly so.

O - Fruity and sweet. Cherry and apple fruit salad. This was a great choice for after dinner.

Bottle from MeadMe, thanks for the opportunity.
Pours a fairly clear pinkish amber color with a with a huge bubbly pink tinged head that persists forever. The aroma is sweet tart and fruity. Tart and sweet cherries with bits of brown sugar and a touch of apple cider and tart berries with a hint of vanilla and oak. The flavor is quite sweet but the tart and fruitiness from the berries and apples counter that nicely. Very subtle woody vanilla flavors round this one out nicely. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet light syrupy mouthfeel. Nice brew, I would have really liked a bit more tartness, but I still had no problem enjoying this one.

poured from a bottle into my ballast point snifter.

A:It reminds me of an amber ale in appearance or a dark apple juice.

S:It smells like a basket of fresh fruit.Allot of cherries and apples.

T:Very sweet,apple juice,light strawberry,cherry,tart..(duh)

M:Very lightly carbonated ,smooth.

O:Very tasty and very sweet.Something you gotta crave in my opinion.I would drink it again if I could but I would not go crazy chasing it.Deff worth the 12$ a bomber.I want to try other NG offerings a little less on the sweeter side.

1pt. 9fl. oz bottle poured into an oversized tulip.

A - Small cap of off-white foam. Perfect clarity, red color with orange highlights.

S - Ripe cranberries right up front. Nice sweetness to it. Really bright, clean fruitiness.

T - I get a nice tart tingling taste on my tongue right away, some sweetness comes in. I get unripened red apples underneath the cherry sweetness. Sweetness lasts into the finish but smoothes out to a super clean fruitiness.

M - Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation, sweet.

O - Cranberries seems to be the main focus of this beer. Carbonation help stimulate and imitate the tartness of the cranberries. Glad to have another fruit beer mixed into the usual lineup of New Glarus barrel aged beers.

Cheers to Goblinmunkey7 for sharing this beer.

Consumed 3/16/13

Appearance: Deep red, garnet - impressively clear for the color - small, off-white head, fades to some wisps of a cap - leaves a few spots of lacing

Smell: Sweet, with a distinct New Glarus fruit beer aroma -lightly tart apples and cranberry take center stage, cherry is secondary - fruit sugar sweetness, basically smells like fruit juice

Taste: Beer? This be fruit juice - lightly tart but mostly sweet apples, more like apple juice than apple cider - lightly tart cranberries as well - cherry flesh rounds things out - like NG Wisconsin Belgian Red, this kind of tastes more like fruit juice than beer - not really much to say about malts or hops, as they appear to be missing, but it works for the style - sweet overall, but in a nice, fruity way

Mouthfeel: Medium body, sticky fruity sweetness, minimal carbonation

Overall: Part of a complete breakfast

New Glarus performs fruit alchemy. This is fruity and sweet without being overly sweet. It's like fruit salad with apples, cranberries, and cherries... except better. This is certainly worth a try if you can find a bottle.

I found this one on tap at Uber Tap Room in Milwaukee Wisconsin. They have it year round. For some reason Wisconsin Brewers seem to be afraid of brewing sour ales. Serendipidy is a rare exception.

Appearance: Amber plum color with a quickly receding white head. The foam maintains a minimal white ring around the sides of the glass throughout the entire 12 oz pour.

Smell: sweet and tangy smell. Cranberry, cherry, and apple notes dominate with a floral scent in the background

Taste. Very sweet and tart. Bold acidity and spiciness on the tongue. Cranberry, cherry, and apple flavors are present. The sourness compliments the syrupy mouthfeel
