New Glarus Brewery deserves at least a 7 out of 5, This place is over the top good.

The drive there is gorgeously scenic. Further those twisty, hilly roads counteract the hypnotic road fatigue which miles upon miles of interstate driving can bring on.

While the drive is lovely the brewery itself is absolutely stunning. My non-drinking friends enjoy visiting New Glarus brewery. A plus is that their beers, while quite tasty, tend to be low abv. I love that I can enjoy a beer without worrying about the long drive home. Much of what I like has a punishingly high abv. It's refreshing to see so much flavor packed into low abv beers.

Staff...Helpful, courteous, knowledgeable & enthusiastic. A large part of the pleasure in visiting New Glarus comes from their 1st rate staff. I've been told many times that people LOVE working there & it shows. And curse me for a knee jerk liberal but I like supporting a business that provides health care coverage to its ft staff.

Selection is very good & with the cave only going to get even better. Their fruit beers are among my favorites but I do love some Scream & Oud Bruin, too. VSB...fingers totally crossed for more of this in the future. I'll die happy if I die smelling VSB, never mind drinking it!

Prices? WoW. Just sooo reasonable, especially given how brews like Raspberry Tart, Belgian Red etc are packed with fresh, juicy fruit.

At the recent Wild Peach release New Glarus again showed exactly what it's made of. Friday was a bit hectic but eminently manageable. Despite that Dan & Deb streamlined the process and had wait times drastically reduced on Sat. The process was almost ridiculously easy on Sun.

Another thing that's very nice, imo, is that well mannered dogs are welcome on the patio. I love to see dogs included whenever possible. It speaks well of the brewery that they extend their warm welcome to dogs, too.

Every time I visit New Glarus I'm reminded again of how much I love it & how truly goood it is. To a klarge extent New Glarus Brewery *is* Dan & Deb. They can take a great deal of pride in that.

My overall impression of NG was pretty positive. The fiancé and I only got to spend about 35 minutes or so there because we stopped by on the way home from a trip to Northern WI. I thought that the building was gorgeous. A brewery of this caliber should be inside a swiss looking castle! The beer was pretty cheap considering how good it is. Cheaper than going to the bar and buying a few drinks. I had the scream IIPA during the tour (of course they were releasing it the next morning and I couldn't bring any home!) and thought it was fantastic! The carry out kiosk was very well set up. There was a lot of room for people to move around and pick out exactly what they want to buy for carry out. The back of the brewery has a few tables and overlooks a beautiful scenic valley and you can see for miles. I would bring a camera and snap a few pictures next trip up! I know that I will be stopping by NG on the way back from trips visiting family as often as I can. If you have never been to NG and like beer, I would highly recommend spending a couple of hours at the brewery to see all it has to offer.

A lot of people complain about the parking, there is a decent sized lot of overflow parking, right next to the main parking lot. This complaint is unjustified IMO.

Have been back to NG a couple of times since I have written this review and I wouldn't downgrade the brewery at all. I was there this past weekend for the VSP release and it was a great experience. Having only been to a couple of other beer tastings/festivals, I thought that it was awesome meeting a bunch of fellow beer snobs and bottle sharing. Dan the owner and head brewer came around and was bidding everyone a good morning while people were waiting in line for the VSP release. You would never know that he is a multi-millionaire! Very humble, willing to take pictures with visitors and sign bottles. I wish there were more people in the beer industry, just like Dan.
I also couldn't believe how many people were at the release that lived within 15 miles of me in the Chi burbs, crazy! I digress. Bottom line is you are missing out if you pass up on an opportunity to visit NG!

The Score is a 5/5, no matter what the above reads!

Finally made it up to New Glarus for the R&D Wild Sour Peach (is that what we're settling on calling it?!) release. Went up Friday, only to find out I was 20 minutes late getting one of the final tickets. A 2.5 hour drive, wasted, right? No. I was able to take in the spread and lay of the land and boy, it's pretty incredible. The Hillside Brewery itself is a fantastic layout and I haven't even done a tour yet (6 out of 5 stars once I do that, I'm sure). I enjoyed a beverage and though the line was long in getting that, I think a waiting a few minutes to get a beer while nearly 1000 people were on the premises, isn't an issue. I met up with someone I knew would be there and was able to enjoy a wood-fire pizza from Fortuna Pizza in the courtyard out back. Again, beautiful.

Jump to Saturday morning, I made the trip up again on the way to Great Taste of the Midwest, girlfriend alongside this time, and arrived in time to secure 2 tickets for the release. The line and process for the beer release that day was seemingly improved only from a day earlier as we "could" have been in and out within an hour. Brilliant process. We picked up some beers from the depot on the way out. The term Depot, not being an exaggeration. Every beer one would want (minus Belgian Red, shucks) was available and available in mass numbers. Nice setup for browsing and selecting said beers and of course checking out.

The parking situation for having such a mass amount of people embarking upon one small-ish area was pretty good. No more than a 5 minute walk for those arriving late and getting an outer-perimeter spot.

Wish I could have met and talked with the two celebreites, Deb and Dan and picked their brain about their seemingly amazing lives and accomplishments. Maybe down the road on our inevitable next visit.
