Brauerei Gasthof Höhn "Görchla"
2€ / ,25L glass vom fass at the gasthaus on 20 Spetember 2017

Notes: It's a hazy deep amber with golden highlights beneath a full head of white foam. It displays very good head retention, and average lacing. The aroma is limited but displays a gently grainy, and perhaps lightly caramelish maltiness. The flavor is grainy and lightly nutty. A median bitternes balances it and it finishes short with quick passing malt and lightly herbal and spicy hops fading. In the mouth it's light-medium in body and gently crisp. Enjoyable.

At the brewpub, it is poured amber with a nice frothy head, refreshed by a steady stream of bubbles from below. Lacing as you enjoy the beer. Light scent, enjoyable flavor - a bite of carbonation going with the malt and a touch of hops. Yum!

Half litre in handled mug at the brewpub in Memmelsdorf

A: Amber in colour, hazy, two finger thick head, moderate retention and lacing.

S: Not overly pronounced but a pleasant, grassy (Saaz) hoppy aroma, also some sugarcane.

T: Great mix of subtle flavors, including slight Parmesan cheese which I often detect in beers brewed with the Saaz hop, some tangerine and a nice hint of honey which gave it a balancing sweetness.

M: Light, crispy and perfectly carbonated.

O: Even though its one of many outstanding beers from Oberfranken, this is worth
looking for, so quaffable.

After lunch at Drei Kronen I stopped into Höhn to try their Görchla. A 0.5l glass set me back a whopping 2.10EU!! The helpful woman behind the bar said this was an unfiltered (naturtrüb) Pils. Well, we'll see...

It was a medium golden color, with a noticeable cloudiness and plenty of carbo acting up within. A frothy, off-white head towers 2" above the bier and lasts quite well, and leaves top-shelf lacing to boot. Has a spritzy, grassy nose, with some earthiness. Inviting! Fairly medium body-wise with a touch of prickle, but a solid mouthfeel overall.

Bready malts first hit the palate, with a bit of sweetness. Following that is a superb, grassy, spicy hop bite which really livens things up on the palate and leaves a great aftertaste. Pils? Perhaps not. More a keller/landbier. Regardless, best new bier of the trip, hands down. Zum Wohl!!
