Pours out a nice dark copper color with a very small head that doesn't last. Very clear. The smell is as excepted sweet and more sweet. Hints of flowers and something a bit citrusy. A touch of pepper in the background as well.

Wow! Is the first thing that I can think of when I first sip this beer. The taste is sooo much bigger than the smell and really doesn't do it justice. A bit syrupy thick in the mouth. The wheat is definitely present along with a ton of alcohol. The bittering at the end is wonderful.

I think this beer lacks a bit in the beginning and middle as nothing really comes out. The ending has the bitterness and stays with you. I also get the burning feeling with this beer.

What a different beer. I really can't compare it to anything. I don't think the wheat can stand up to the alcohol the same way barley can in a barley wine. This my friends is a sipper!

Served in snifter at Portsmouth Brewery.

Appearance: This beer poured a small head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a murky reddish brown with bubbles coming up the side of the glass.

Smell: Bready, caramel, toffee, spicy, bananas, and clove.

Taste: Caramel and toffee delight. Spicy, yeasty, bready, bananas, and a little alcohol.

Mouthfeel: Creamy smooth, medium bodied, warming alcohol, low to medium carbonation, and it got better as it warmed up.

Overall: Pretty solid wheatwine from Smutty's sister brewery.

22oz, October '11 bottle
Riedel tulip

A: Pours a clear deep orange color. Crystal clear. Initially a layer of bright white. Turns into a nice collar around the edges of glass. Some alcohol feet. Some lacing bits.

S: Sweetness. Breadiness from the malts. Some orange blossom. Some honeysuckle. And there is booze.

T: No bitterness on tongue. Hops have faded. Getting nice butterscotch like sweetness. Again, maybe a touch of orange and citrus (just a hint). Some herbal notes. Really nice tasting brew. Finish has some lingering sweetness. A little booze on back end as you sip. Warms throat.

M: Big medium.

22oz. bottle shared by EnfronCFO. 2010 vintage. Pours slightly lighter than cider in color with a loose head that dissipates into an oily skim and a bubbly band around the shoulders. Nose is sugary off the initial sniff, followed by wheat malt and a hint of ethanol. Cotton candy comes out as the brew warms. Taste consistent with nose with the addition of a slight chemically aftertaste at the finish. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body with an oily texture and an even carbonation. Overall, this beer seems spot on for the style. I would recommend trying this beer both fresh and cellared. Another great beer from Portsmouth.
