This Northern European style pils is similar to the Friezland Helles style, with a bold hoppiness and a touch of fruit.

A-Brilliant, clear gold yellow with a light blush of copper. in color. Medium, off-white head reduces to a thin cap and leaves spotty lace.

S-Biscuit malt up front with a nicely balancing dose of peppery hop coupled with lighter citrus hop notes.

T-Sweet, honey covered biscuit malt followed with a blast of spicy, peppery hops.

M-Medium-light bodied, sharp and crisp with nice lingering hop bite.

D-Nice stuff. Palate profile doesn't nail it for me but the mouthfeel is just what I like...sharp and biting. For a 9% pilsener I could see myself enjoying this one again.

Golden w/ a hint of peach tone and thin offwhite head.

Scent is brisk with grapefruit hops, grassy notes, tropical fruit and a light rum / solvent note

Taste is lightly sweet with a hint of grapefruit hops, very light tropical fruit malty wheat base. Alcohol note is vry minimal
spicy, bready. Crisp, clean, tangy.

Mouth is a crisp medium.

Drinkability is decent.

22 fl oz brown bottle; served in a tulip. Picked this treat up from the brewery's gift shop.

Pale copper in color; golden highlights with tremendous clarity. Frothy, bright white head that leaves pools of large bubbles as it recedes. Thin lacing with pretty decent strength.

Stiff, clean malted wheat with a tame honey semi-sweetness. Bright, pine-scented hop oils. The alcohol presence is certainly noticeable, but kept in the background behind such a strong, dynamic hop presence.

Clean, almost crisp malted wheat up front. Bright pine and spruce hop flavors that intermingle amidst the wheat base. Pear, apricot, and green apple. Notes of tropical fruit with a sometimes significant rum-like alcohol presence. The clean, malted wheat character returns by mid-sip leaving a somewhat dry, not quite crisp finish.

Medium bodied; smooth and very clean for such a big, yet delicate style. Surprisingly balanced given some complex flavors and a hefty dose of alcohol.

Admittedly not my favorite style; however, this offering displays some rounded flavorful aspects all while balancing the 9% abv. Even if you're not a Pilsener fan, you won't be disappointed with trying this one.

Stopped in today (02JAN09) with "The Scheister" for lunch, hoping to snag some Imperial IPA.... Alas, 'twas off, but the Impy Pils was put on on this morn (or, so sez waiter non-pareil Walter H).

Gots me a pint (Impy Club benefit ;-) !!) Came in with a bright, striking golden color, with a twinge of haze. Head was off-white, creamy and sitting at about 1/4". It lasted well, leaving top-shelf lacing in the glass. Aroma was somewhat on the mild side, with some breadiness and a suggestion of spiciness. Body was a nice medium, and though there was a slight spritz of bubbliness on the tongue, this bier was mostly smooth on the palate.

Flavor has some easy-going sweetness starting things off, with a bit of crackery malt getting it going. Flavors akin to some fruitiness come into play, suggesting raw, green apples. This is almost sourish in some respects. Hopping has some floral tinges to it. I found some similarities to this and to some fresh, from the wooden kegs Pilsner Urquell I had at their brewery tour in 2007. Hmmm... nice!!! Tod Mott came by my table near the end of lunch. I mentioned the sour aspect, and the Pils Urquell similarities... he said they used some malt (what was it???) that may have contributed to this acidic quality... Whatever it specifically is, it's pretty good. I may have liked the Impy IPA more, but this hit the spot!!

Prosit!!!

Quite a nice beer. It was served in a tulip glass. I'm not sure if that's because they don't have pilsener glasses or because they seem to serve all their imperial offerings in tulips. This was a clear golden color with a nice white, sticky head. Aroma a little nondescript, kind of a sweet grain. The taste was a different story: a great balance between malt and hops, making for a smooth taste experience. Definitely not a hop bomb. The alcohol was well hidden. I would have this beer again.
