Served in a pint glass this beer was black in color with a medium-sized tan head. There was a little bit of lace.

Aroma mostly that of a porter: chocolate and roasted malt. The pumpkin was there, though, just not too intrusive.

The aroma deepened more in the taste. Chocolate, a little coffee. The pumpkin taste kind of lingered in the background, as well as a little bit of spice.

One might think that these disparate aromas and tastes wouldn't work very well together, but these certainly do. There was a nice balance of sweet and spice. A rich beer, meant to be sipped.

Portmouth pint glass

A: Pours a really deep dark brown color. There is some reddish hues as you hold it up to the light. Nice finger of light tan head from the pour. Sticks around a while and leaves some lacing bits. Nice looking beer.

S: Solid nose on this one. Good traces of pumpkin flesh along with the normal spice blend: cinnamon and nutmeg and clove. I like the rich chocolate and roast that you get from the porter base too.

T: Much like the nose, this is a solid brew. Good mixture with the dark base porter brew and the spice of the pumpkin ale. They work well together and neither really overpowers the other. I still think TREAT and Pumpkinator are my tops for the style (dark pumpkin) but this is up there for me. Thinner than either of those two.

M: Medium bodied. The bigness comes from the ABV here not necessarily the body.
