Stopped into the Brewpub today with Alewife for lunch. Rye Bock? Rye not?! Imperial pint, for $4.75... (x2!!)

Glass held a somewhat cloudy brew; color was medium copper, and carbo was fine and steady. Topping the bier was a thin layer of fine, light beige bubbles, with some decent lacing clinging to the sides. Aroma was a little light, but caramel was noticed, along with some floral hopping. Really liked the mouthfeel; body was medium-plus, and it felt quite smooth on the tongue.

More caramel and some toffee hit the palate, accompanied by a distinct rye-based spiciness. Malt action was solid all the way. Floral hops really blended in nicely, and this had a super Maibock lean to it. The rye added a different quality to a great style, and this one really hit the spot. Really? Yeah... grabbed a growler for home tonight! Prosit!!

Best by May 2013 on the bottle.

Pours a clear golden orange color with a good sized head, fades slowly yet doesn't leave any lacing on the glass.

Smell is dominated by sweet malt with hints of caramel and a light floral fruity aroma.

Taste starts out with a strong rye spiciness, balanced out by the sweet malt and decent caramel flavor, good and proper carbonation, decent body, finishes slightly dry and bitter. (416 characters)

First had: on tap at Portsmouth

Clear coppery pour with a foamy white head that sank to a thin layer, leaving a few speckles of lacing on the glass. Aroma of pale malts, toasted grains, light herbal hops. Taste of toasted rye, a little pale malt sweetness, herbal and floral hop notes, a bit bland and cardboardy, but nothing really offensive going on. Light-medium body. Pretty basic stuff, but not too bad overall. (417 characters)
