The CANQuest keeps bring me new and interesting beers. CAN you dig it?!?
From the CAN: "Over 100 years ago, two hard-working Irish immigrant railmen mused over a pint about building a brewery. Today, we honor our ancestors' dream with a robust session ale. This AmeriCAN pale ale celebrates the artful blend of imported malts and floral Cascade hops. Alc. 5.6% by Vol. Come visit our pub and restaurant, located 45 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. Grab a pint of Paddy beneath the old-growth timberframe and enjoy the time-honored tradition of the local pub." Editor's note: I have been there and thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Oooh, another beer anxious to get out of its CAN! I allowed the foam to settle a little bit before pouring. Sure enough, there was plenty of head to go around, creating two-plus fingers' worth of thick, tawny head with very good retention. Color was a slightly hazy orangish-amber. I could definitely smell the Cascade hops on the nose. It makes me darn glad to be reviewing something in a CAN other than AmeriCAN Adjunct Lagers, I'll tell you! Mouthfeel was medium with a heavier malt presence on the tongue than the nose had led me to expect. Finish continued to be more malty than hoppy, but it was still eminently drinkable, plus knowing where it came from makes me more of a fan than something from some gigantic corporation. Cooler worthy, but not worth seeking out.
