This is one of the four bars in the stretch of Durham, along with the James Joyce, the Federal, and another or two. A friend of mine lives in Durham, but we finally went to Satisfaction after a few years, honestly because for lunch the Federal was somehow closed--so we took the option of walking about a block to come here.

I got a sub, as far as food goes, which reminded of one you'd get at an old school sub shop--everything was fresh and tasty, and it wasn't so big that I couldn't finish it. Though they don't give you fries with it, and it wasn't clear on the menu that you got anything else, the four of us got a bag of Ruffles. The onion rings were good, but maybe the greasiest I've ever had, and I'm sure we've all had some that were pretty insane like that.

The beer selection was pretty wide, and they have good specials, especially for the Duke games and whatnot, though none of us decided to get any beer--I guess that'll be next time.

It's a spacious place, but it's a bit dingy, and I don't mean in the neighborhood-hole-in-the-wall kind of way; it just seemed a little unclean to me. Maybe that's their thing, and it didn't really detract, but I just felt a little grimier than I usually do in the bar. Though there are a lot of TVs, cool Duke stuff (if you're into that) to look at on the walls, and pretty high ceilings, not to mention a decent size bar and a few sections of tables and chairs for larger or smaller parties.

Overall I wouldn't mind going back, but I really do like the Federal for many reasons and would probably go back there instead. But it was an enjoyable experience and if I go there and we go back I won't complain, and maybe then we'll actually be having a few brews too.

Ah, Satisfaction's. Every person affiliated with Duke University (I had a professor who used to make fun of their mixed drinks in his lectures) knows that this is the place for cheap beer in huge quantities, but at the same time few know that it's a place for excellent deals on craft brew, too. Case in point: Big Cup Thursdays, where 32oz cups of every beer on tap go for $3-4 (including SN Celebration and Old Rasputin). The dozen or so taps range from Bud Light and Yuengling up to Chimay and Highland. A similar range is covered by the 100+ bottles.
Food is surprisingly good, especially the hand-cut fries and pizzas. While the place can get absurdly crowded on Thursdays or during Duke basketball games, it's still a good hangout most of the time.

Inside what I assume to be series of old tobacco warehouses now named Brightleaf Square, this is one of the four bars on Main in Durham. By far the largest, this is a great place to congregate and watch a game or hang out with friends. Let’s get right to the meat of it. Pros: They have a decent beer selection, a few unique beers on tap and several good ones in bottles. Cons: I have never had an easy time getting service at the bar, even on a weeknight, even when there are a few people working back there.
I can’t make a judgment on the food because I haven’t had any. I have been there on a pub-crawl and to watch a Monday night football game. The atmosphere is good and there’s never trouble finding a table, although I recommend using the waitress instead of standing in line at the bar.

Atmosphere: Seemed lively and relaxed, a bit smokey, with lots of TV's and a good crowd. Can get a bit noisy. The interior rough timbers and wood paneling giving it an almost country bar feel, but it's not.

Quality: From seasonal selections like Achor's Our Special ale and Carolina Brewing Company's Winter Porter to other craft brews like SN Pale Ale and more. They do have many macros, but some very good alternatives are available.

Service: Good, not stellar, but certainly no complaints

Selection: They could have a wider selection, but it's better than most places.

Food: They pizza was very good, and a member of our party said the salad was surprisingly good, but who eats rabbit food realy?

First off... don't wear a tie to this place. Second, expect to eat foods that are not on your weight-watchers plan. Third, pretty decent beer selection.

Satisfaction's is near downtown Durham, way too close to the Duke Campus for non-Duke fans. But if you're in Durham, and enjoy pizza, subs and fries alongside your craft beer, then this is the place to go. The bar gets pretty packed for Duke basketball games, and the place has it's own sense of style. It feels like a sports bar with all of the large tvs, but the beer selection leans away from the macrobrew drinker. There are some macrobrew taps, but they usually have some nice selections as well. Including at least one tap of Carolina Brewing's. The bottle selection is also very solid.

This place also deserves some recognition for hosting one of the Triangle's homebrew clubs, TRUB. They have a private room and the club meets once a week.
