Boreale Rousse pours into my glass crystal clear, and a deep leathery brown color. Thin streams of CO2 support a dense, cream colored head with good retention.
Taking a sniff, the first thing I smell is caramel, supported by nuttiness. Beneath this I catch a whiff of cereal malt, smelling something like Bran Flakes. Boreale Rousse's aromas come together quickly, moving into a center where I get more of the same before moving into the aroma's finish. Here I get another whiff of Bran Flakes before Boreale Rousse's nose drops into a short, clipped finish. Oddly lacking at this point are the north American hops I would have expected for this style of beer.
On the tongue, Boreale Rousse's flavors offer me foreground flavors of cereal malts. As with the nose, it's Bran Flakes again, only somewhat more dominant. At this point, I can only pick up a faint hint of caramel of nuttiness, not enough to lend any real support to the cereal grains mentioned before. All of this moves into a finish where I pick up a notable hoppiness in the finish. In this case, it's the spicy, peppery flavor of European hops.
` My first issue with this beer is how much the flavor profile is dominated by flavors of cerreal malts. I could forgive it if there were some other flavors in there, lending support. I would also probably like this beer more if there was a more notable north American hop profile both in the nose, and on the tongue. Overall, it's a good effort but just falls short in its attempt to be a balanced representative of the style.

Pours deep copper colour and thin head with mild retention. Malt and caramel aroma and flavours are the predominant characteristics. Feels somewhat sweet, mild bitterness and medium carbonation. Feels crisp and smooth at the same time.

A: ruby red dark amber color with a large 3 finger tan head

S: sweet malt, a touch of cardboard, a faint hint of something meaty, and some earthy hops

T: follows the nose well. Some sweet caramel malt and a touch of meat. A little earthy hops to balance it out. Sweet finish

M: lighter side of medium with a lower carbonation

O: an interesting amber. Sweet and light, but the touch of meat add an interesting element. Not great, but not terrible

Pours a deep red-coppery body with a faint amount of slightly off white head that quickly decays. The aroma carries sweet molasses and roasted grains with some mild hopping at the back. The taste is very roasty, with some more caramel and biscuit coming off from the carmelization of hops sugars. Carbonation is effervescent, and the beer has a generally light finish. A nice red ale, would buy again.
