A.Poured a rich dark opaque black, with light particles. A creamy lasting tan head, arose from the brew. It had a nice lasting lace.

S. Leaves, oatmeal, bread, buscuits.

T. Not a coffe or chocolate flavor. More of oat bread, and barlet. Not too sweet, and a good bitterness.

M. Medium bodied, Chewy texture, and lively carbonation.

D. A gret brew, Not your typical chocolate, coffee, concoction. Lots of grain apppeal.

Appearance: One of the rotating stouts in the Church Brew Works lineup. This one poured a dark chocolate brown with a brown bordering on pinkish head. Lacing up and down the glass and the head resembled the craters on the moon in its molten state, bubbling over periodically.

Smell: The aroma of this beer was malty, bready and a hint of sweetness. It was difficult to really pick up much of the scent due to the pleasant yet powerful odor of sweet wort being brewed behind the bar area.

Taste: Dark chocolate, unsweetened cocoa nibs. I could also detect some roasted/coffee flavors and a subtle bittering hop was hanging in the balance. The roasted flavors were there but not so much to overtake some of the sweet chocolate malt action. This beer was a pleasure to drink and it was served cold, which was much to my liking.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied and very smooth. Velvety with a prickly carbonation. Went down smooth and easy.

Drinkability: Well let it be said that this should be a regular bottled offering by CBW. On tap it was delightful and I am sure I will drink it again, soon. For some reason I love stouts with pizza and this one did not disappoint.

Poured a black hue with a one finger frothy tan head. There was decent retention and lacing.

The smell featured a burnt grain, dry coffee and charcoal.

The taste consisted of an upfront dry burnt grain that softened up very little. Serious dry coffee at the finish.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style.

Overall a pretty good stout. A bit too dry for an oatmeal stout however.

This beer pours a pitch black with a dark head, reminiscent of a much larger stout. Decent lacing.
A bit of malt, little to no hops, decent nose.
A bit of a sweet stout, just a touch of lactose, kind of surprising. Good flavor, I could go for a few more ibus though.
very smooth in the mouth, and also very easy to drink. This beer did not blow me away, but was certainly an above average beer. Excellent place.

Had on tap at Church Brew works in Pittsburgh

A: Nice dark stout yet not opaque. Has a dark brown head that does not last nor does it lace too well, but it looks great otherwise.

S: The smell is of light coffee and coffee. It is a rather light smell, which I expected from the ABV.

T: The taste is very creamy, just like an oatmeal stout should be. The taste is a bit light, but the coffee and chocolate flavors are definitely there. The creaminess is really what sets this apart though.

Overall, this is a great brew, could use some more hops, but it is great.

This was the best beer I had at this nice, classy restaurant. The head was tight, never left, leaving nice lacing. Coffee, chocolate, and whiskey dominated the flavor. Seemed as if the beer was stronger than what it was, but a terrific session beer, and a cool place.

I tried four different beers on this visit and this was by far the best, in fact I just had to take a growler of it home just to last me till my next visit. The bartender handed me a very dark brown almost black stout that smelled of sweet chocolate and coffee. Taste of oatmeal, coffee and a rich chocolate that tasted great together and was thick and creamy in my mouth. This beer left me wanting more of it and was highly drinkable.

Sample at the brewpub. Pours pitch black with a wispy tan head and thin spotty lacing. Pleasant aroma of coffee and malt. Smooth and rich mouthfeel with toasted malt, coffee and chocolate flavors. The finish is bittersweet chocolate with a lingering touch of hops afterward. Solid all around.

Easily the best of the beers I had at Church Brew Works, poured a deep nearly pitch black with a thinner but well sustained mocha colored head.Milk chocolate and somewhat of a nutty aroma not heavily roasted on the nose with a light but very noticable leafy hop presence, flavors of milk chocolate and coffee with that nutty presence showing up again its oh so easy going down its soft and pleasant with the flavors just melding together nicely.A very quaffable oat stout soft and pleasant and quite flavorful to boot.

Pours from the growler an opaque dark brown. A vigorous pour gives it just a thin brown head that quickly disappears. Lacing? Zip. Smell is definitely a creamy coffee. Hints of bitter chocoalte. Roasty. Tiny bit of vanilla.

A balanced taste, a balance of bitterness and sweetness int he malt. Almost like someone mixed a cream stout with an agressively bitter stout. Graininess in the mouth. Finish becomes a bit more bitter as you drink the pint. Mouth is medium and clean for a stout. Some lingering stickiness as you polish of the pint but mostly a bitter coffee aftertaste. Smooth.

A great drinker. At under 5% ABV, a nice session brew. I wouldn't have guessed this for an oatmeal stout. I love 'em but rarely are they this smooth. Check this one out if in Pittsburgh.
