Enjoyed on tap at the Church Brew Works. According to the chalk board, this was the Irish Blast Furnace Stout, and not an Oatmeal Stout.
A little light in color, with lots of bubbles in the glass.
Smell, Mmm, very good. Little husky with a definite hop bite and a creamy sweet essence.
Taste, Quite smooth, with a great balancing bitterness. A great hop character, but not overwhelming intensity. The dark malts flex their respective muscles to bring a lovely dark cream taste to the beer. Balanced to a "t", with maybe the hops getting a little more a attention.
Overall, this beer gives Beamish and Murphy's a run for its money. So darn smooth and quaffable. However, it kicks Guinness in the balls and runs. It can touch this masterpiece of a Dry Irish Stout.
Serving type: on-tap
