Cuvee de Troll was a beer I found hard to conclude anything on. I had almost written it off after my first few sips but as I got further in I found myself enjoying it more. Not a particularly complex beer - especially not for a Belgian - but it was certainly not bad. Flavours were hard to pin point as - though present - were not at all bold. Some grainy malt, light pepeery spice. A lingering dry finish. Faint alcohol with some fruity airness. What I would consider a decent aroma and mouthfeel as well. Average bouquet with neutral texture and carbonation. Overall it was enjoyable but not rememberable. All the same, a good job by the Dubuissons.

I had this on tap at Falstaff (Montparnasse) in Paris. The beer was clear, copper colored, with a shallow head. The nose was definitely Belgian character, yeasty esters and a little spice, maybe even some honey based on the floral aroma. On tasting it seems to be not too far from a tripel, not quite the bitter bite that many tripels have, more the spicy flavor. While stradling the line between Belgian Strong Pale Ale and Tripel I think this tends more toward the Strong Pale Ale, especially given the wider definition of that style.

The body was medium, the aftertaste was a little dry, not bad overall but really not anything that stands out among its competition.

A: Bright yellow, with thin sparkling white head that quickly disappears rather quickly.

S: Minor citrus and floral tones, some sweetness but not much.

T: Bitter hops and citrus flavours. Most of the bitterness comes in the aftertaste, surprisingly pleasant considering the bitterness and minor acidity.

M: Light body, very carbonated, smooth to drink.

D: Not particularly spectacular or anything but very easy to drink and very refreshing. Nice one for the summer.

Had this at Volo in TO the other day, from notes.

Typical pale Belgian in appearance. Frosted glass - dedicated Cuvee des Trolls glass. Who could resists trolls! Apple and soy sauce aromas. The apples also show up in the flavour, along with sweetness, some yeastiness, grain and light hop bitterness in the finish. A little bit boozy and drying. Not the most flavourful for the style, but refreshing. Wouldn't regret having another, but there are better examples of the style.

12oz-ish pour at Sharp Edge Creekhouse, served in a mini snifter/tulip hybrid

A - strong golden color with minimal loose bubbly white foam. looks a lot like apple juice/cider.

S - fruity in the nose with some dry and lightly sour red apples, belgian yeast, and grains with a slight twinge of alcohol.

T - sweet and fruity, apples and pears...just a touch sour yet a bit stale. grainy and bready malts carry and dominate throughout most of the drink.

M - thin bodied and quite flat, very dull.

D - despite not having a great appearance, nose, flavor, or mouthfeel this one oddly went down easily. maybe i was just trying to finish it quickly and move on. not a terrible beer, about the best compliment i could give it now.

I had this at Chaucer's Pub/Marienbad Restaruant in London, Ontario. Served with its own frosted glass!

A: Very blonde; pours with a fluffy, white head; nice retention and lace.

S: Floral hops with a little yeasty tang.

T: Slightly sweet with a lot of fresh, floral hop flavour (which I wasn't particularly fond of). A little spicyness from the hops and/or yeast. Not a lot of fruity esters, but certainly some phenols.

M: Typical Belgain strong. Given the strength, the body is relatively light. Carbonation is slightly higher than average.

D: Certainly approachable, but I didn't find it overly engaging.

Had this on tap @ Naja's Place.
Nice hazy yellow pour with a thick white head. Nothing special with the aroma, a bit yeasty. It tastes a bit sweet with bready yeast flavors. Very drinkable and the alcohol is very well hidden. Overall a great beer!!
