$5.49 for a 330ml (11.2 fl oz) bottle @ Siciliano's.
"Brewed since 2009 by the Brasserie Dubuisson with the same rigour as the other Bush beers, made to an original recipe based on natural peach extracts, the Pêche Mel’Scaldis has what it takes to satisfy everyone who likes fruit-flavoured beers with character. The natural flavourings and extracts of the fruit complement the original bitterness of the Bush Amber to create a rounded and perfectly balanced beer. Pêche Mel’Scaldis is a highly fermented, filtered beer with an alcohol volume of 8.5%, which will make it without a doubt the strongest fruit-flavoured beer."
Pours out to a slightly hazy, well...peach. Forms a poofy and billowing light yellow head with superior retention and gorgeous lacing. Carbonation is brisk, ~3.0 carbs or so. The aroma is overwhelming ripe and juicy peach nectar with a funky nose of BO like you will sometimes get with mango or guava puree. A little bit of distant dust in the nose as well. Otherwise, that's it. The mouthfeel is light at first, but becomes sweet and somewhat cloying. I have to guess that they sweetened this beer with non-fermentables after primary fermentation. The taste is really all about peaches and mango, with very mild bitterness only as an afterthought. Candied peaches. No perceptible off-flavors or aromas, but a touch of nail-polish remover remains in the aftertaste. This may or may not be fusels, as the fruity esters are so overwhelming in this one.
This is one-trick pony, and I'm glad I tried it, but it needs to be "digestible" as the Belgians like to say, to make anyone want to drink more than one of these. It's a bit heavy and needs to attenuate further, and heck, doing so would boost the alcohol, which the whole Scaldis thing is all about. As it is, cut it with some brut champagne for a nice spritzer.
