This beer was consumed on the terrace at La Cervoise in Mons, Belgium.

Appearance: Pours a golden orange with light tan and swirly head. Decent lacing left on the glass.

Smell: Light malty aroma, leather, and floral undertones. Definate strong alcohol scent.

Taste: Spritzy, malty, floral with a bready and sour middle. There is a strong alcohol flavor (not well hidden at all) and a light candy sugar and caramel aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Sticky and over carbonated.

Drinkability: Readily drinkable and good, but I think this beer would be better if they shot for lower ABV. This beer doesn't really handle the 10% well.

Bottle from Belgian Beer Shop.com. The beer is clear golden blond with a nice white head. The aroma is typical for a Belgian blond: grain and yeasty with touches of fruitiness and spices. The taste is well balanced, yeasty, fruity with some hops in the background. Sweet and the alcohol is very present. Overall a fine beer that has to be drunk with moderation.

Poured from a 33 cl bottle into a goblet.

A - Light golden color, very clear. Tiny bubbles constantly rising. White head is thick initially and then fades to thin white layer with lots of lacing.

S - Aroma is equal parts Pilsner grain and bubblegum sweetness. Earthy, grassy noble hops in the background. Inviting alcohol notes.

T - Clean flavors of smooth grain and noble hops. Finishes with a slightly skunky Pilsner-like hop taste. Not very complex or layered.

M - Medium body with some residual sweetness. Hops bitterness is in the background.

O - A well-crafted, enjoyable beer, but not top-of-class.

On tap at the brewery tap. Stopped by after a wonderful afternoon at Brewery Vapeur.

A: clear, blond color, nice creamy head
S: clean crisp, very little alcohol noticeable
T: malty, creamy, sweeter, but very, very drinkable
M: creamy and smooth, 10.5% ABV is not noticeable, incredibly smooth

Note: consumed eight months after expiry.

Appearance - 4.0
Poured slowly into my Duvel tulip. A finger of thick, cream coloured head sits atop a body bright amber-gold body that is positively teeming with sediment chunks. Nice head retention and spotty lacing.

Smell - 4.0
Complex aroma of biscuity malt, spicy Belgian yeast, pepper, a little pear and perfumy alcohol.

Taste - 3.5
Pleasant enough, but ultimately alcohol presence is high and pushes other flavours to the back of the palate. Biscuity malt, spice and a little underripe pear are there with the warming alcohol and pepper.

Mouthfeel - 4.5
The classic Belgian combination of a body that is on the lighter side of medium and lively carbonation with fine bead.

Drinkability - 3.5
Duvel is the benchmark for drinkability in this style, and Bush Blonde falls somewhat short, being no more complex but clearly more alcoholic.

OVERALL - 3.8
A nice Belgian ale that is perhaps a little too big for its own good. Ultimately Duvel offers greater pleasure and much better drinkability.
