On tap @ Iron Hill Phoenixville on 7/9/11 during the annual Blobfest. Served in a tulip glass. This year’s version is a Tripel that has been aged on Michigan cherries. ABV listed as 9.1%.

Pours a hazed ruby (maybe more of a rose), topped with a thin covering of bright-white head. This retains with some creamy bunching around the edges, throwing up a foamy cascade that quickly settles into some nice looking spotty lace. The aroma starts out on a very positive note, with a fresh blast of fresh feeling Michigan cherries, which mingles with the light spicy sharpness of the Belgian yeast. The tart cherries and yeast feel pretty even there in the nose, being softened on the edges some by sweet bready smelling sugars. There is no warmth here per se but the flavors definitely have some strength to them in the nostrils.

That fresh cherry tartness jumps right out in the taste and stays the focus of the profile pretty much the whole way through. The tartness here is well balanced by the bread and sugar flavors of the base Tripel, while a yeasty kick in the back finishes this moderately dry and spicy with some lingering tartness. The mouthfeel is fuller bodied, with a lively sharpness to the carbonation that makes those flavors dance in the mouth. The alcohol here is VERY well hid with barely even any warmth to this. The only sense you get from the ABV is just some general heft to the feel and flavors. VERY nicely done on the mouthfeel here!

This one hit all of the right notes for me; with the focus here on those bright cherry flavors and a borderline dangerously hid alcohol content. This might be my favorite selection that I’ve had from this location and was a great choice to celebrate this year’s Blobfest with. Well done!

Unleashed during Phoenixville's Blob Fest weekend. This one differs from the previously released Cherry Tripel in that this versioin has a generous portion of vanilla beans added to secondary fermentation.
Appears a hazy, dark orange with a fluffy, two finger cap that slowly fades into a mild collar. Tons of co2 bubbles rise to the top of the glass. Scattered lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of heavy vanilla, rhubarb, montmorency cherries, tropical fruit, and estery phenols highlited with mild plastic and spices.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with sugary sweetness up front and fruity phenols jumping around the palate.
Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied with spicy sugars and mild tartness.
