On tap at IH Lancaster.
Pours a clear, bright dark brown with a retentive tan head and nice lacing. Roast nutty and chocolate notes lead the malt in the nose with a subtle orange citrus background. Mildly sweet flavor, nutty, dark fruit and chocolate with light roast. More of a traditional English brown than the Sorachisauraus that is also currently on (which has some interesting cedar and citrus going on). Medium light body with a crisp, mildly bitter finish.

T - Chocolate covered caramel bits & maybe it was just in my mind but I got an intruding coffee after taste...
M - Felt silky in my mouth which left my mouth happy
D - I would only have one
Overall - a slight let down... normally I'm a huge fan of all of Iron Hill's brews but the chocolate flavor just didnt belong there in my opinion. I would've liked a more nutty bread flavor. Not worth the time Iron Hill has better ones

64 oz growler filled @ the Lancaster location. Poured into a pint glass.
Pours a deep clear amber, with 2 fingers of tight off-white (or maybe even a light mocha) foamy head. This retains with a creamy half finger of froth, that leaves back some great looking lacing which hangs on the sides of the glass in a sticky latticework. The aroma has a pronounced, yet smooth, roasted nuttiness to it, with some sweet notes of cocoa and caramel coming out underneath. Citric hops give the nose an earthy fruitiness. Those roasted textures are really standing out there.
The taste is semisweet on the tongue with some light malty notes of chocolate and caramel. This is encapsulated by that same roasted character as the nose. Hops are bit more assertive here, offering the profile some balancing earthy bitterness. Green citrus mixes with the malts to give a fruity tang in the background. This finishes with some spice, earth, and dryness, as well as a bit of nuttiness that trails away quickly. The mouthfeel is lighter-medium bodied, with a fantastic feeling smooth crispness to the body that prickles the palate with flavor yet still stays VERY easy feeling in the mouth.
This was a VERY solid take on an English Brown, with enough fruitiness and nuttiness to keep fans of the style happy but still having some bitterness presence to give this a little oomph. Drinkibility was overall ridiculous. I know when the wife can rip through a pint quickly, that we've got a winner on our hands. Flavorful and very sessionable, I greatly enjoyed this.

A special collaboration between Reverend David Peck of St. James Episcopal Church in Lancaster, PA and assistant brewer Chad Rieker (and St James church member) of Iron Hill Lancaster. The two men got together and developed St. James Brown Ale. The beer will be sold at Iron Hill and will also be available as part of a church fundraiser.
A-Clear, bright dark brown with a medium light tan head that slowly reduced and left copious ringing lace.
S-Woody dryness and an interesting twang in the background. Lighter notes of toasted malt come through late with warming.
T-Caramel malt up front but not overly sweet. A pleasant cherry like tartness builds in behind. Light nuttiness in the drying finish. Quite tasty overall.
M-Medium-light body with light lingering sweetness and a drying finish.
D-A very nicely down beer, I am sure Reverend Peck will be proud of this creation. Easy to drink and quite flavourful for a relatively simple brew.
