This was a great beer to try on its likely last day of commercial life. Great aroma as you bring the glass up and the softer, cask like mouthfeel is a pleasant surprise. There is enough malt backbone to hang these hop garlands on with many nuances through out. Very nice job !

On tap @ Iron Hill Lancaster (Lancaster, PA) on 3/5/11. Served in an oversized mug.

Pours a slightly hazed golden copper, with a thin head of bright-white colored foam. This stays fairly rich during the duration of the mug, leaving back a robust foamy cascade of lacing which slowly slides down the sides. Some light spotty swathes of lace are left back. The aroma is floral, piney, and spicy with an earthy smelling leafiness to it. There is an even mix of citric fruit present here, with bitter grapefruit mingling with some sweeter tropical flavors. Notes of sweet biscuits add a solid grainy backing across the rear of the nose. Ah, I get it. Sweet and leafy. This is nice!

This is initially bitter up front with grapefruit, citrus rind, and some sharp pine resins but is quickly evened by that aforementioned mix of tropical fruit character, sweet toasted grains, and a splash of caramel which gives this a sticky balance across the back of the palate. The hops strike back in the finish though, with citrus peel, spice, and resins lingering rather strongly. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a firm sharp creaminess that is undercut by some oily slickness, which combines with no alcohol pick-ups at all to keep this smooth and accessible the whole way through.

This was another great IPA from here, which had a fresh hoppy power to the profiles yet still stayed very approachable and refreshing feeling. This reminded me a bit of a Kryptonite-lite at times. This however is more than enough to hold me over until the end of May. Well done guys.

My reward after a long day at Susquehannock State Park, Indian Steps, and Sam Lewis State Park. A growler filled yesterday.

A: The IPA is golden, pale and translucent. The only obstructions are beads of condensation on the outside of the glass. A head, easily 5 fingers, overflowed on at least three occasions. Plenty of lace is left behind.

S: Leafy hops, a combination of pine and citrus, leap out of the glass. My nose is filled with lush sweet bitterness, a bite that refuses to quit. The sweetness becomes more pronounced with each sip, tropical and piney.

T: Reflecting on this beer, I'm awestruck by the hoppiness paired with a mild body; the ale packs a punch without too much intensity. The pale biscuity base has caramel notes for depth. Overtop, hops are plentiful. Tangerine and grapefruit, a bit of pine, no boozy lingering. Spices, cinnamon in particular, peaks through near the end. The leafiness, so fresh, hits the right notes. The mild, quiet storm intensity of the hops really works.

M: Bold and hoppy but very inviting, the ale brings a ton of hop flavor into the mix without being too heavy. An excellent choice to bring home for the night.

O: Nice punch, hoppy finish, mild mid-sip. An all around great IPA.

On tap at Iron Hill Chestnut Hill. Pours a nice golden color with a good white head and some lacing on the way down. The nose is really quite nice with plenty of citrus character -- some lemon and orange rind to go along with some pine and a bit of dankness. Flavor continues down the same path. Really nice citrus and pine combination. Strong hop flavor. Bitter dry finish after a light-medium body. Really excellent stuff. Good enough for me to grab a growler right away.

Columbus, Centennial anid Simcoe hops! Oh, my. It arrived with a dense finger of French Vanilla-colored head that evinced good retention. Color was a beautiful sunshine yellow with NE-quality clarity. In fact, they pulled the blinds while I was there because the sun was jealous! Howzat for some hyperbole? Nose simply smelled like a cold pine forest - wintergreen and pine to die for. Yum! Mouthfeel was medium with a pine/orange-citrus flavor on the tongue. The intermingling of the flavors resulted in so smooth a beer that I was nearly gone before I realized what was happening. Finish was mellow, as in orange peel zest/hoppy mellow. More, please, nurse.

A recent wag suggested that I CANnot taste beers properly, so I could say that it tasted like sour grapes, but I'll take a pass. This was Sweet in a Badass way, like Sweet Sweetback's Baadasss Song. How many reviews manage to weave in a Blaxploitation film? Taste that, homie!

Received in the Blind Beers BIF from Hophead101 and reviewed blind. Poured from a blind growler into a tulip.

Pours a pale gold with astounding clarity. It's topped with a frothy one-finger head of the purest white foam that dissipates slowly, leaving a large clingy ring and some bubbly film. Tiny bubbles grip the sides of the glass in thick ribbons.

Fantastic blend of hops in the nose. I get bright grass, some pine, orange pee and sweet honey. Maybe a bit of pale cracker malt in the back, but this aroma is all about sticky, resinous hops.

The flavor comes in two parts: before and after the swallow. While the beer is in the mouth, flavors of grass, pine, herbal onion and grapefruit make themselves known. When the beer goes down the gullet, maltiness emerges with biscuits and crackers. The finish is snappy and subtly sweet, with lingering grassy and grapefruit notes.

The body is nicely hefty, a cool, smooth medium. Carbonation is low yet peppery, and the beer fizzes up just a bit as it moves about. The bitterness is impressive, but not biting.

Overall, a delightful IPA. Great combination of hops, with a snap that keeps me coming back. I can't wait to make my way through the rest of this growler.

On Tap in a pint glass at the Chestnut Hill location.

Shiny penny bronze with some yellow highlights like fading sun. The head builds to an inch with great retention and semi stick. The color of the foam is off white.

Smell is bold with hop scents very large. In fact that's all I get, not picking up any malt in the scent. A lot of chinook, simcoe scents coming out, citrus, pine, orange, grapefruit, pineapple. The 6.5 does not show up. I can sniff this for hours.

Taste follows the nose, big, bold, citrusy and not too over the top. Everything in check and balanced. Pine, grapefruit, citrus, some malt, etc. I get some earthy tones with warming and the alcohol is not tasted, nice.

Feel is medium bodied with a ample amount of carb. The hops stick to the mouth with a resinous feel kinda. I could do two of these with some food. Iron Hill Chestnut Hill has been pumping out some great stuff recently.

A - Pours a clear golden color with 2 inches of of white foam that slowly faded leaving some decent lacing.

S - Amazing aroma, nice leafy hops mixed with some pine and citrus as well, almost a sweet tea aroma. I could smell this all day.

T - nice piney hop bite mixed well with a sweetness and leafiness. A light biscuit and caramel base round this out nicely. There is also a nice citrus taste to it that comes out just as equally in the middle. It all finishes with a slightly dry herbalness.

M - medium bodied with really nice crisp carbonation. It has a nice dry finish that helps you come back for more.

D - This is insanely drinkable and at 6.5%, I can finish the growler myself. I hope this one stays in Lancaster or at least continues with Paul and I'll drive for it.
