Served on-tap at IH Lancaster, an artisanl Italian ale, brewed with chestnut honey. Served from a cask.

A: The beer is darker, much darker than I was expecting (hence the Belgian dark ale appellation, the only one that suggests a continental dark ale). A caramel amber color, full and dark but still managing to be bright. The cask lends a small head to the operation.

S: The nose is fruity sweet and full, with raisins and caramel leading the way.

T: The toffee and caramel aspects drive most of the body, a chewy sweet maltiness. A full body, the honey addition has added heft. Around the mid-sip mark, raisins come in at full throttle, lending a Belgian feel to the ale. The combination of caramel and raisin is the lasting impression.

M: The mouthfeel is smooth, thanks to the cask. A nice flavor profile although, admittedly, my Italian birra background is limited. The rich fruitiness works.
