On tap @ the newly opened Chestnut Hill location. Served in a pint glass. ABV listed as 7%.

Pours a clear gold, topped with a smooth finger of bright-white head that retains wells and drenches the sides of the glass with robust lacing. The aroma smells floral and a little herbal and piney, with bright lemon character and then some lighter zesty grapefruit. Neutral feeling sweet grains sit along the back of the nose and help prop those hop flavors up. Those Sorachi Ace hops are on full effect here, with lemon, earth, and herbs all being in abundance.

The taste has a fresh green bitterness to it, with grapefruit pith and pine and then some herbal textures that come in off the sides. A splash of lemon flavor across the back helps this finish dry and resinous with some lingering tartness. Like the nose, those Pils malts offer support and balance but mostly stay in the background and let those hops do their thing. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a lively and crisp feel on the tongue and then more of a smooth silkiness that fills out the back of the palate and really helps keep this easy feeling. Alcohol is well hid and adds to the overall drinkability of this.

This was nice and a straight up American IPA highlighting the Sorachi Ace varietal. That Pils malt was most welcome to, as it helped with the clean feel here and keeping the focus on the hops. This was easy feeling for the size and very flavorful and I’m glad that Paul ported this one over from the West Chester location.

A: Dull weathered orange, neat clarity, with a small presence of visible carbonation. Standard iron hill head, small frothy, off white/beige coloring with a bit of frumpiness holding its own moderatly. Good vessel coverage for lace.

S: The nose held a nice tropical fruitiness of pineapple-orange and some passion fruit. Spicy, fruity, moderate in strength.

T: The flavor was spicy alcohol laced tropical fruit. Warm pineapple, and oranges with a light malt sweetness. Lightly dried apple skins with a moderate hoppiness. Nice twist with some spicy fruity hop nature from the sorachi with tints of citrusy pine support.

M: Light and crisp mouthful, active carbonation, warm alcohol and fruit on the tongue.

O: Overall a spicy fruity ipa but still a bit restrained for my nature. Like to see more ummph and better pronounciation of hop flavors, being brighter and more edgier. A light malt palate is probably better suited as a summer drink. Just enough hops to pass mustard here, a glass is fine and worthy of a try.
